hi steve---i'm brand new in the interest of creating patterns and want to buy corel draw after seeing your videos i noticed the one you used is corel draw 12. the newer ones are quite expensive and beyond my reach do you think if i found an older less expensive version it would work o.k. for me? thanx for sharing your great work!!----bill
Hi Bill, yes the older versions are adequate for doing patterns. We only use a small portion of the available tools anyway. You may also look for the Home/Student version of Corel X4. it only cost $129. Still expensive but much cheaper than the full version. It is exactly the same as the full version it just does not allow commercial use. I just noticed Amazon has it on sale. Search for corel draw x4 on Amazon.com and look for the white box home student version.
There actually is an "easy" way to get the "islands of white"... It takes knowledge about the program... don't tell people that there is no easy way to do it... The exact finished result you want can be done by converting to b/w, then convert to two colors, then use corel trace, THEN.. adjust the minimum object size. This will get rid of all the little objects. Props for taking the time to post a video though, sir.
hey i have corel paintshop can it do the same things? do u think u can help me make a multi layer stencil? like black, white, n gray? ID GREATLY aprriciate it i cant find any corel tutorial for it
Steve, Great video and thanks for getting others interested in this great hobby! Check out some of my FREE scroll saw patterns at: "bukisa-dot-com/channels/woodwork"
CorelDraw is a lot easier to use, also allows to create several pages in a single document..and has a lot of features illustrator doesn´t (for instance corel creates a calendar automatically for you =)...now Illustrator is superior to Corel in some cases..they work in different ways..so it´s up to anybody what software to use..give it a try and start using Corel!!
We use this Program because its not an idustry standard that you learn in school, its for true designers that learned it the old school way which is by trial and error! besides corel is alot easier to use and offers alot more features than ai
i print all my patterns in red. it's alot easier for me to see against the black blade.
