You can say what you like about personal preferences, most of you already have, but you have to admit they don't draw cartoons like they used to. The detail in the background and the colouring is something you only expect to find in anime anymore.
@Xantor12345 I checked out your page and actually, you're older than I am, LOL. I just have a good place in my heart for this movie, and I've read the books enough to realize that urban dictionary words are just for "hipsters." I won't read anything else you have to say, cuz I don't respect the opinions of assholes. Done.
Obviously the Peter Jackson version is better it was made years later with a vastly greater budget and IS NOT A CARTOON. Stop comparing the two and enjoy the film ffs
@Xantor12345 I hope you're not saying a movie NEEDS a huge budget to be good, or that there's no such thing as great cartoon animation. Cuz if you are, that's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time.
@waldenpondogre How does that in any way sound like what I said? Also, are you suggesting that if you have two movies, one of which has a budget in excess of 200 million greater than the other, that movie would not have an edge?
@Xantor12345 That's how it sounded to me. I mean, those were the only reasons you gave for liking the new one's better, which taken by themselves are stupid reasons, if you ask me. And yeah, I am suggesting that a movie doesn't have to cost $200 million to be good. I think Bakshi's animation was pretty good (for the most part). Not saying Jackson's sucked, I just prefer cartoons to CGI-fests.
@waldenpondogre FYI I never said I like the movie better (I don't). There is also a big difference between a movie having a big budget and being 'good' and having an edge over other movies (which is what I said.twice).
i like the fact that they actually did the thing with merru in this one, where they froze him. because they didnt do that in the real jacksons version.
I'll say this about the portrayal of Aragorn in this film... from 5th grade (when this movie came out) until the Peter Jackson movies, whenever I read the books I was hearing John Hurt speaking all of Aragorn's dialogue. (John Hurt is the guy doing the voice... same guy who had the first Alien hatch out of his chest)
Why are all the people in the Prancing Pony so obviously live action? Could they not be bothered to animate them? And as for Frodo's song...well it's the campest thing I've seen all week
i read the hobbit in 1975 at the age of 10 and saw this film some years later! at the time it was a revelation! it stills holds up in its own way its 31 years old! steve o
Clearly you can see that this classic is a work of a genius pothead. Nazgul on Acid, Aragorn the "Peyote Indian", Sam tripping on belladonna...... this cartoon rocks!
0:08 Sam looks like the odd man (Hobbit?) out of the four. His character design's too distinctive. And his mannerism resembles someone with mental incapacity.
Why did they make the Nazgul so ridiculous?I mean in the movie they are scarry and look evil, here it s like they re zombies who have been hit by a train. And they make weird sounds.Plus,Sam is portraied as a retard. Otherwise nice
3:46 - It might be just me, but it seems the "Black Breath" actually refer to the Nazgûls' body odors. After all, why in the world do they need to raise up their cloaks (erm, armpits) to deliver it to Merry? lol
IMHO, many Aragorns pre-Viggo Mortensen sound rather arrogant, no doubt because they attempted to make their voices sound kingly and commanding.
Examples I can name include the 1981 BBC's Aragorn (fortunately this only manifests itself in some bits of dialogue; in others Robert Stephens does a decent job) and Rankin-Bass' Aragorn come to mind. But that's just me.
why on earth would they put real people with filters over them to make them SEEM like cartoon... did the animator run out of ink?!

they tried to fit the main emphesis of the story with so little time and budget, when this was brought out in 78.
they wouldn't of had the budget or time for
the introduction of tom bombadil , his character takes up a fair bit of the early part of the book.
