can anyone explain to me how people can choose what they believe? 2+2 are not 5 just because i want to believe so. my logical sense is nothing i can control, it tells me what to believe, not the other way around.
@fdasherv Yeah. It's pretty awesome stuff, ain't it?! It's too bad some people are too caught up in their own imagined self-importance to see and accept that there is "morality", and goodness in nature. Personally, it gives me a lot of hope. It indicates that goodwill is something that we seek to spread amongst our group, so as imagined ideas of how we're all so different disappear, people will start to treat each other better.
Let Bob Dutko argue this with another Christian apologist. He claims that humans have a universal sense of morality. Other Christians argue against atheism because, they claim, without the Bible we would have no idea what moral behavior is.
@bagospannerz You left that crap too eh? I was raised a roman catholic myself until i finally regurgitated all the stuff that theyd been stuffing down my throat for all those years.

Great to see all of this evidence combined to combat ignorance though!
if that is true then how do some biengs have mental blocks against feelings some people can't tell the difference between happy and sad also feelings come from mirror electronic waves that put exeprsions and tone of voices together to tell if someone is sad or happy
@MILKnCOW1 its called physios. oh and do you eat meat? well that was once a living thing. have you ever eaten raw vegetables? well its even worse because the cells of the plant are stil alive. Actually, I think fear in such things as spiders and snakes can be ingrained by their upbringing. I can think of a few phobias I have had to get over, which were brought on simply by the suggestion that they are things I should fear
For example, until I was told that the dark was something to fear, I didn't actually have a fear of the dark.

I'm catching up my subscriptions and I've just watched this. I really appreciated it. As someone with bipolar disorder, I'm thinking about a video response discussing how obvious the biological nature of emotion is when they become unreliable to the point that you can't trust your own.
By the way, I keep forgetting about the complete silence at the beginning of your videos and always wind up frantically trying to find out why I can't hear anything, lol.
Yesterday, a group said judgment day was upon us, the world was coming to an end which did not happen as expected by most people. I'd be interesting to see what kind of video Brettppalmer could produce to explain why those groups appear. Disproving God's existence is as easy as disproving the trustworthiness of horoscopes; but it's harder to explain y ppl still read 'em. These eschatologic groups reemerge and the members continue to believe? A video of cognitive dissonance would be educational!
Excellent video. Primatologist, Frans de Waal has done a lot of research in the connectios between us and the other apes. Just throwing a name out there. :-)
Animals are incredibly diverse. If self-recognition is able to evolve twice in magpies and in mammals, it may have evolved elsewhere in another clade. It's perhaps correct to say that humans above animals, but that's not to say that many animals perhaps even down to amphibians and fish are capable of emotion and potentially even self-recognition.
@Brettpalmer How can people deny evolution when you see a chimp and a man face there practically the same. We want to believe in a god becuase were weak we want to believe were immortal and that someones looking after us that will do things for us like a parent religious people are scared of death showing us that there selfish they want to live for ever there terrible people in that way.
There was a test done where a box containing a sweet is presented to a child and a chimp both are taught a succession of actions tap hear push a slider out and so one, completion results in the reward how ever when they give them a transparent box that makes it apparent the actions are needless the chimp avoids all the actions except opening the box and gets the sweet however the child still follows instructions even though they do nothing to help ‘that box is religion’.
Hahaha... I've just barely started watching this video, but that radio guy is so dumb. Yes, we do have to ask ourselves those questions about emotions. And science has done a terrific job of answering them!
Every time I hear this "we humans have emotion claim" I just have to ask...so you think my dog's are all psychopaths with no emotion at all? Also, EXPLAIN psychopaths, god didnt give them emotions? We know the brain is responsible for emotions, and in the brain of a psychopath certain parts of the brain, such as the Amygdala. Some scientist want to in the future try and "fix the brain" some say it's the amygdala that you need to simply change, others say it's important but other parts are too.
So I find this not only horribly wrong and bullshit, but I find it immoral. Because to simply chalk it up to "gawd did it" gets us no where. We need to actually investigate all these emotional parts of the brain, and some say 'no you can't change the brain! FREE WILL from god" Emotion is needed for a species to populate. Even psychopaths know this, which says a lot about this bullshit argument.
I just want to say that My very first dog died in my grandfather's back seat when he was rushing my dog to the hospital, he died on the way inside the veterinarian building. The very next day, my grandpa went to go shopping, and took her [the dog's] sister with him like he always did, and the sister of my former dog began howling and crying. She KNEW he had died there. Another story I know of, is when a doctor was brutally murdered by a serial killer.
her beloved dog went to her funeral, and every single time her name is said, she would howl and cry. When they took her casket to bury her, her dog began crying. She KNEW her owner was dead. I know this story, and have seen footage of it because I am into true crime as a hobby. I also remember a story of a dog and cat being best friends and the cat died. The dog dug up the cat's corpse, cleaned it, and slept with it during the night, this was in England. So ya, fuck you people.
Just after watching this video, i was on reddit and there was a photo on there about a chimp called Dorothy who died of heart faliure at a rescue centre in Cameroon and the as she is covered and taken away the other chimps seem to be comforting each other. It should pop up if you google it as it wont let me post it here. Someone need to show Bob the picture
interesting:his emphasis on (and use of the word) "mutation" implies so much! the word has a negative connotation, and i never realized that till this video.his implication is pretty thickly laid that evolution is an inferior assertion.and as always: the elevation of man above all other things found in nature is presumed to be "true."
Are you fucking kidding me? Are you literally insane? Since when has religion been a source of goddamn fucking jesus christ almighty for fuck's sake MORALITY?! Are you MEN. TAL.
Brett I have a seriousquestion: is Bob Dutko aware of these videos? Does he know of the grand slam his arguments are receiving? If not, I think he should.
@1:27-1:35, That's a great example of being fractally wrong.
@19:16, I remember having read an article about pigeons becoming superstitious when given food at random intervals. If the pigeon had been lifting it's leg when the food dropped, it would keep lifting it's leg after that to try and get more food.
It's actually a pity you didn't have time to go into the evolutionary origins of superstitious thinking, especially theory of mind, because it's a really interesting and eye-opening field that's seen a lot of advancement lately.
The voice in the documentary part at the end of this video is the same person that does the voice at the start of Pendulum - Blood Sugar, IM SURE OF IT!!!
I've watched every single one of these, but this one... this really got me. This is by far his most infuriatingly stupid "proof" thus far, and given what we've seen so far, that's saying A LOT. Nice going, Bob. So can I thank your god for idiocy as well? I was learning this shit in high school, he has no excuse. Animals CAN and DO inherit "non-physical" characteristics genius, yes even emotions. Christ on a bike, Bob.
Oh my fuckin god this is just soooo awesome !! ... It gives me so much amunition for the next time I get in an arguement with a creatard ! ... THANK YOU soooo much Brett !! :)
@6stringsbrainfingers no matter how much ammunition I hav, they still choose 2 stay in thier ignorance. then they say I got my evidence from junk science. there, the conversation halts. when they cease listening 2 reality, the conversation ceases 2 progress and I walk away. I won't argue whether the scientific method is a valid way 2 figure out reality cuz it's 8th (or 7th?) grade science. it can b so frustrating.
I can tell that dogs feel emotions, some can be snobby, others mean, and they can be sad when someone they cared for dies. I guess it's easier to eat meat if you believe humans are the only animals that feel emotions and can choose from right and wrong.
@Mayuhito69 I am like the Naabi when I eat chicken and turkey. I respect the animal, I'm sad that it had 2 pass. the fact is some animal protein is necessary for the iron and various proteins it contains. I figure the less intelligence of an animal, the less guilt I feel as I eat it :)
If any theist is reading this, please give this old atheist an answer to these questions. What neurosensor is stimulated by your god when he communicates with you? And when you answer that one, please let me in on what kind of energy is utilized to stimulate this neurosensor? And while we are at it, can you provide the evidence for those answers so that I may try to understand your reasons to think that this being is actually communicating with you.
@RhondaH they also mourn thier dead, often fending of crocodiles and scanvengers 4 hours so they can have time for last affection displays and goodbyes
As a cognitive science/neuroscience undergrad, I have to say this is stunningly ignorant argument. I literally gazed at the screen for a full minute in disbelief at how sloppy Dutko's research must've been. It's as though he's never opened a neuroanatomy textbook. THE BRAIN MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE WITHOUT EVOLUTION!
I love the banner on his show, ' Defending The Truth'. Tough job when you don't have any evidence to use in your defense of this 'truth'. So I guess I can make up any bullshit and assert anything I want and defend it with all my might, but without the evidence, it's an exercise in futility.
@melowar78 exactly. creationists seem to think that our emotions and morality come from some inner spiritual soul that can't be defined. in reality it is a bunch of complex reactions and transmissions.
brett, the 20 minute video covering this is great. I really enjoyed the clips you added. Your arguments are very well displayed. I'm not sure how anybody can't be convinced Dutko is a supreme bullshitter after watching this series
15:59 "general sense of right and wrong"... God must have been on the ball the day he laid out the morality rules allowing slavery. He probably woke up and thought to himself "i'm going to be really fucking moral today!!" before he sent that message to man
we only help ourselves, huh. Maybe that's why we are "living the life". Religion has nothing to do with God because believing in him doesn't make you have a good life or anything. If you have faith that's another story.
If he was never with us and is never with us, then why do people turn christian? yeah our life is horrible right now because we don't deserve this life. The people that deserve this life are you guys unless you change. Hahaha live 100 years or forever? wow.
@123mrskinnyboy - "If he was never with us and is never with us, then why do people turn muslim? yeah our life is horrible right now because we don't deserve this life. The people that deserve this life are you guys unless you change. Hahaha live 100 years or forever? wow." See? That argument works for Islam, too. BTW, you're going to burn in hell. It's in a holy book that's believed by more than a billion people. Are you saying more than a billion people are wrong?
These people are either truly dumb or they are deeply dishonest & are trying to mislead their truly ignorant flock! I guess it is a mix. When I listen to Christians make such claims for god's existence I feel like they suck a % of my IQ away! LOL!
Thanx so much for bringing that arrogant prick Dutko to his knees. I'd bet if you tried to call in to his show, he'd never allow you on the air. Brett is za man!
Emotion is psycho-physiological, influenced by experience, the mind causes all these chemicals in the body to react, maybe that's why tears come out of our eyes or the heart beats fast, face gets red.
I think the chimp in the mirror might be more intelligent than Bob Dutko.
I can't really BLAME the guy with the iron rod thru his head for becoming an irresponsible asshole. If I had to deal with an iron rod in my skull the rest of my life, it'd ruin my good mood, too.
To be curious.... if the atheist people don't believe in any god(s) that exist... Why do they keep talking about him? They HAVE to prove that he doesn't exist just to make their lives better? All those christians that talk trash about other religions are FAKEEEEEE and therfore give the people trying to change this world bad credit. All of those that don't believe him, good luck on your long journey that's about to uncover; because you will need it when the truth comes out. Smh........
@123mrskinnyboy No one talks about lack of proof of anything to make themselves feel better. The truth is out already, there is no god. There are no gods. You don't want to see it.
Great video. I was thinking that this could have been debunked in 5 min by recording my dog at the dog park. There she shows every emotion listed, except for anger at least.
i cannot believe he is so ignorant that he would actually say that humans are the only species that has self recognition. we have known that apes are as well for along time. that just shows that believers have no desire, what so ever, to explore other possibilities other than "god did it". i would highly recommend watching that NG on "amazing apes". AWESOME series. they show chimps hunt down another chimp from another tribe. its crazy.
Most of us fear spiders and snakes because in our evolutionary course those who didn't fear these are DEAD, then only survived those who feared them and they passed these very traits to their offspring...
Can't people wrap their mind around such simple concepts ?
he doesn't know other animals have emotion, are self-aware, or have morality. I can't even try to imagine what a sad world it must feel like living in to look through his eyes.
@qtzlctl2012 its y people hav been so mean 2 animals in the past. ignorance 2 thier ability 2 feel pain and sadness, anger and desire 4 comfort. history has been so mean 2 animals
@qtzlctl2012 I can imagine Dutko sitting in front of a mirror, making ugly faces at it, trying to scare that nasty man on the other side of the glass away.
@qtzlctl2012 Unfortunately the world is great through his eyes, even if it is just an illusion. He thinks himself special BECAUSE he thinks other animals are not special like he is. After all, he is made in god's image. This is the inherant nature of superstions. They place themselves on a platform above all others, create unfalsifiable 'truths' and then avoid any real self criticism. To me, this is sad but to them it is holy.
Going to many churches throughout my life time, I liked the Agape the best, because they didn't insist on making supernatural or philosophical thought as something that had to be true.
and yet christian leaders know these things and still deny these things and purposley lie to their congregations about these things to keep them in the pews giving them money.this is the common trait of christianity.do what ever it takes to keep the money flowing.
"... apologists like Dutko, don't want to do any work researching the mysteries of being human." - BINGO! Pretty much sums up this entire series, so far.
@bshieldsbb01 really out of this entire presentation, logic arguments, questions raised, dogmas challenge ..thats the best comment you can come up with
great video, i think this one is my fav so far. but i will see the final 2 and make up my mind after that. keep up the great work, i can only speak for myself but videos like yours really move me.

@jay666KJ

Another story I know of, is when a doctor was brutally murdered by a serial killer.
jay666KJ 10 months ago
@jay666KJ
her beloved dog went to her funeral, and every single time her name is said, she would howl and cry.

@1:27-1:35, That's a great example of being fractally wrong.
@19:16, I remember having read an article about pigeons becoming superstitious when given food at random intervals. If the pigeon had been lifting it's leg when the food dropped, it would keep lifting it's leg after that to try and get more food.

I don't understand how he could be so fucking stupid without it being intentional.
This 'man' is a goddman disgrace to the human race. What a fucktardian.
Skindoggiedog 10 months ago
It's actually a pity you didn't have time to go into the evolutionary origins of superstitious thinking, especially theory of mind, because it's a really interesting and eye-opening field that's seen a lot of advancement lately.

Fact:
Bob Dutko can't think of a single reason why it would be an evolutionary advantage for parents to love their children.

I can tell that dogs feel emotions, some can be snobby, others mean, and they can be sad when someone they cared for dies. I guess it's easier to eat meat if you believe humans are the only animals that feel emotions and can choose from right and wrong.
Mayuhito69 10 months ago
@Mayuhito69 I am like the Naabi when I eat chicken and turkey. I respect the animal, I'm sad that it had 2 pass. the fact is some animal protein is necessary for the iron and various proteins it contains. I figure the less intelligence of an animal, the less guilt I feel as I eat it :)

And when you answer that one, please let me in on what kind of energy is utilized to stimulate this neurosensor? And while we are at it, can you provide the evidence for those answers so that I may try to understand your reasons to think that this being is actually communicating with you.

Emotions and morals come from the brain. Therefore emotions and morals are not "non physical" entities.
melowar78 10 months ago
@melowar78 exactly. creationists seem to think that our emotions and morality come from some inner spiritual soul that can't be defined. in reality it is a bunch of complex reactions and transmissions.

@Trickycandyfloss
we only help ourselves, huh.
Hahaha live 100 years or forever? wow.

The people that deserve this life are you guys unless you change. Hahaha live 100 years or forever? wow." See? That argument works for Islam, too. BTW, you're going to burn in hell. Smh........

xxhellspawnedxx 10 months ago
@qtzlctl2012 Unfortunately the world is great through his eyes, even if it is just an illusion. He thinks himself special BECAUSE he thinks other animals are not special like he is. After all, he is made in god's image. This is the inherant nature of superstions. They place themselves on a platform above all others, create unfalsifiable 'truths' and then avoid any real self criticism. To me, this is sad but to them it is holy.
