@therarmann I got to have a lesson with Paul a couple of weeks ago at GIT. I assure you it isn't a gimmick. He's got issues with hearing, mostly in his left ear.

He uses the isolation headphones to block out the loud stage decibles, and get a mix wirelessly into them so he doesn't need to use stage monitors. They're the same idea as In-Ear Monitors that most of the pros use, they're just around the ear instead of going "in" them. The thing in his front right pocket is the wireless receiver.

From the live stage sound?... he hears practically nothing. All the mic'ed instruments are fed through a mixer and he receives a perfectly mixed level in his headset. He can hear well enough to have a normal conversation with you but his ears are too sensitive to take a live rock show. His music has been loud since Mr. Big.
