8.16 where did those sticks go? lol but that sure is some hardcore fighting with real moves! Not that fast frantic hugging you see in NHL games today. Best NHL game! Addictive, roster, funny comment, realistic graphics for that time, details (like moving & breaking of boards), cool menus, music, sound, excitment after winning, camera angles, all is best. Only game I still play after years. Newer versions don't even have those great details like this one! This game was waaay ahead of it's time.

I re-installed XP back and boy did I miss it. I'm playing NHL '99 again. One of the only games I still play after years. It's addictive, graphics are really good for that time, the details (boarding moving, glass breaking, fighting during breaks) all makes it so fun and realistic, the tension and excitement (you'll get from winning), the menu, the intro, the camera views, the sound, the commentators, all is best ever. Even the newer versions aren't as realistic. Amazing how good this game was.

The problem with this game was it ran like pooh on the ps1, terrible frame rate, and was the worst one that had that problem. 2002... Well it became too arcady. Thank God Montreal Team brought back the game to where it once was. 1998 was the best with 94.

:( I already tried compatibility mode, smaller screen resolution, less colors etc. The game either lags like hell or won't start at all (gives error). Somebody knows the problem?

I know.I have to agree Vista is more stunning visually. Has quicker search engine, some nice photo galleries but I don't really use those. When so many games don't work well I started to miss XP. I think i will put XP back and enjoy my old games again :D

Do you people know that NHL 09 uses a part of the song at 1:09 during the pre game when players are exiting the locker room? I was blown away! This is the first videgame i destroyed due to AI cheating. I was playing an expansion team, i think Nashville. I was up 7-1and they tied the score!

It was like THE BEST NHL EVER, music-wise, menus-wise etc. etc. It really gave the impression that you play a manly game. Tough, rough, fast. I know that the graphics weren't exactly astonishing but my God since then it has been so awkwardly clean. NHL '99 is like 1965 Ford Mustang where every 2K version is a Prius ;)

I have the PC version and cannot start fights. I do know that if you have an aggressive or high intensity player who'll fight, you can get him to fight against any "tough guys" on the other team. The guys will go pretty often and it is exciting to play!

Shut up #_#. The graphics were great (for that time!!) haha. Not but really i still play the game after 7 years that's proof how addictive it is! The details (board movement, ice textures), sounds, menu, music, intro, the players (Gretzky with New york haha, Lemieux, Roy etc were still there!) excitement it was all great. This was a great start for later versions. U saw a real improvement in game graphics in general from 1999 and on.

i love this game. great gameplay. fantastic soundtrack. it was my second game of the series after nhl 98, which i played on ps1. this one i played on pc. it is a huge difference between these two games. nhl 99 is better in all aspects. it is worth to be the next step in the series. go penguins !!!
