  • my mom used to have a 2,000 excursion with v10 gas, we traded it in '08 for a new f350 dually, both great trucks, props to ford

  • i was thinking about getting one of these with the 5.4, and then get a vortec supercharger kit on it or something, i just want it for the size factor, not for hauling really, and i'd love it could outperform the v10 or either diesel. :)

  • Wasn't the 6.0 a complete and utter disaster for Ford? Heard cases of people dying in 6.0 PSD powered ambulances that broke down on the way to hospitals.

    They are almost the same as a 7.3L just differnet bore and displacement sizes.

    If you get a first gen, you can make it work real well actually

  • @allian59 It has auto locking hubs, and what you are seeing is the manual override for a failsafe. If they don't automatically engage, then you get out and lock them manually. I have been there and done that.

  • The 6.0 and 6.4 trucks are just so much more civilized than the 7.3 trucks were.

    We have had good luck with ours in business! Mileage is dissapointing in the 6.0's, but plenty of power for normal use.

  • @Zachman1124 thanks for your opinion, i think 12 mpg would be an upgrade for me because right now i have a 1992 cadillac seville and its only good on gas when im on the highway, but its a 4.9 Liter V8 and im barely on the highway, i swear my car gets no more than 10 MPG plus im 6'4" so i need somethin big lol

  • Yeah this truck has tons of headroom, my buddy is 6'7" and he still has more than 4" of headroom AND I read in the manual a V10 is rated for 11K pounds of towing.. the diesel I'm sure is much higher but I live in the suburbs of the city, not sure the neighboors would want that thing around, haha

  • @nowelleoh I've got a 2000 excursion 4X4 XLT Triton V10 and it's got some POWER! I'm rated at about 9K towing limit, although, I hooked my tow hooks in the front and pulled a trailer weighing 15K pounds about 25 yards just fine... The V10 does suck gas though at about 12 MPG for me and I don't have a heavy foot. As for driving in ice, I'm so heavy I crush the ice underneath me at almost 4 tons of weight . In my poinion go with the V10 and NOT the deisel but that's just me

  • It ll depends on your needs. More pulling power and good mpg go 4 the diesel.Less MPG but more horse power go 4 the gas. I would go 4 the diesel!

  • diesel gets better gas mileage, diesel lasts longer, is more reliable and more torque at lower RPM's

  • Just dont get a 5.4 V8 or 6.0 diesel and you'll be fine. I have a 7.3 diesel one and love it. People with V10 excursions love theres too. But people who have the option, or go from to the other, prefer the 7.3. Good luck finding one though

  • No problem, I'm 6'4 too and I have plenty of room. In my opinion, you should definitely wait and search till you find a 7.3.

  • ford has never had another engine as reliable as the 7.3, its a great engine!

  • As well am I, but I'm not expecting much. Durring its partnership with navstar, ford was taken to court and forced to stop production on its own diesel, which was an exact rip of the 6.0 navstar produced for it.... internationals 7.3 is great, getting half a million miles on cast pistons! thats amazing! fords 6.7 is probably going to be a powerful engine and people will love it.... but it never going to stand the test of time like the 7.3

  • That new diesel promises to be exceptionally good from ford! Everyone I know loves the 6.4, I can't wait to see what the new 6.7 can do. They say it gets best in class fuel mileage due to a manifold change ect. They changed injectors and switched up the turbos. Also has best in class horsepower a torque... looks very promising!

  • i also have a 2001 Excursion Limited and I think its the best truck I have ever owned and driven.

    6.8 engine as well, huge tires and a custom straight pipe exhaust which makes her sound as mean as she looks

  • with headstuds and an egr delete the 6.0 is an awesome motor. but nothing can compare to a 7.3 :) she was a turd stock but went forever.
