Fascinating. I looked at the Synfig docs/wiki but came up empty-handed. I knew it was somewhere out there, but incomplete documentation makes stuff pretty hard to use.

You can align text any way you like in synfig - see the "orientation" parameter of the text layer.
Set the x component to zero for left aligned, and to 1 unit (= 60 pixels) for right aligned.
Values in between work as expected. I'll post a simple example in a video response.
Can you make the source (.sifz) available for this effect please? It's pretty. :)
