  • Audio's out of phase

  • weird stereo sound effect is kind of disorientating!

  • oh 20th century, how funny you were, back when even people at tech conferences can't get the damn projector to work.

  • And what it means physically, is that when the left speaker cone is moving forwards, the right speaker cone is moving backwards, and vice versa. These movements correspond to increased pressure - when the cone moves forward, and decreased pressure - when the cone moves backwards. It sounds (and feels) strange because one ear is experiencing an increase of pressure while the other is experiencing a decrease of pressure.

Swap the cables on one speaker to fix the sound.

  • The left and right audio channels are out of phase by 180 degrees.

If you've ever wondered what people mean when they say that audio is 'out of phase', you are now hearing it. It sounds very strange and it puts what we call a 'hole in the middle', between the two speakers. If you are not hearing a problem with the audio, then your speakers may well be wired out of phase (i.e. black to red on one speaker). There is also a harmonic feedback issue, but most people probalbly don't even notice that.

  • Another Doomsayer

  • @twochaudio also, fuck you. He's not a doomsayer, he saying "these are all the horrible things we're leading to if no one does anything about it, and here's what I'm doing about." What are you doing about it? The people who've lived through most of the 20th century have a hell of a lot more perspective of the direction of human intent and ability than a few fucking youtube pundits.

  • he just told you dont bleave every thing in the book :):) just leave the end of the book on this one...

  • Amazing.

    The audio is annoying though.

I would like it to be re-upped, just so that more people will be able to enjoy it, without having to endure the bleeps and the bloops.

  • The only thing I can hear at max, is my computer fan :(

  • Interesting content. The audio quality isn't good (very low and with glitches).

  • audio level is very low and has quality probs

  • the audio is terrible, please re-upload :)

  • ya man.. cant hear a shit.. i maed out the volume and it still sounds a little soft..

  • Is it true that Dr. Paul MacCready has passed away & when? I'm a great fan of his work it shocked me to hear this news.Pls send me a reply

  • Hi TogieTung.

    I just googled his name.

    From Wikipedia:

    "Paul B. MacCready, Jr. (September 25, 1925 - August 28, 2007)"

    Great guy, very sad.

  • Bad quality and low sound level :-s

  • TALK LOUDER

  • ... or if you can't speak up, can you arrange for that friggin' TED fanfare at the front end to be QUIETENED DOWN for crysake?!

  • Audio is fried, please broil it, (less fat, more meat.)

  • Nem tudom kezelni a számitógépet, majd tanits meg rá.

  • volume

  • audio?

  • Can you repost this video with audio?

  • Seconded. I can't hear much of anything on this video.

  • I can hear it fine... Do u have powered speakers or are you on a laptop?

  • I do have powered speakers, and they're turned up all the way. Thanks for the advice, though.

  • I can also hear the audio fine. I have powered speakers, and they're not up very loud... but it sounds like the left and right channels are out of phase...

  • hummm...

  • the audio is very faint.

  • no audio... to bad :(

  • This evidence is all anecdotal and compiled by people who aren't climatologists, i.e. YOuEnj0yMyself; whereas the evidence for global warming is provided by ice core samples taken from continental ice shelves and glaciers; further evidence is found in the fact that almost all of the latter are melting. The only hype here is your apostrophe pal.

  • Even if it is, we still need to develop better tech. Sooner or later we are gona leave this rock. Might as well as develop it asap, so we can be less dependent even on earth materials but, that won't happen still for awhile.

  • yea but lets not waste billions of dollars cutting co2 emisstions when the whole concept is on less than solid ground.

  • can't hear anything. giving that one a miss

  • really good video...

Sound wasn't great, but i cranked up my speakers n it was fine..!

  • watch zzz33333's videos.

  • I wanna be a mortician when I grow up.

  • FIX THE AUDIO!!!

  • Horrible sound quality. Great video otherwise, but it gives me a headache to listen to it.

  • wow.

Don't try watching this while wearing head phones.

It just about blew out my eardrums.

It would have been nice to watch the whole thing, but it was just not possible.

  • would have been nice to have better sound quality.:(

  • WTF? the sound?

  • please fix the audio on this video .

but anyhow i was still able to understand everything he said.

    thank you !

  • Terrible audio in this video.

  • ZOMG AUDIO TOO LOUD

  • VOLUME TOO LOW. CANNOT HEAR.

  • solar powered flying vehicles give me warm fuzzy feelings of "infinite flying". I'm sure i'm not alone.

  • Except for that whole "night" thing.

  • BATTERIES!

Helios used a reversible hydrogen fuelcell (as a rechargable battery) to fly all day and night.

The QinetiQ Zephyr has flown for 82 hours straight by charging it's batteries during the day and discharging at night.

  • Airships covered with solar panels and an array of batteries and capacitors could stay aloft for extended time periods.

I'm sure somebody would find use for them.. :)

  • VERY POOR AUDIO!!!!!

  • solar is not the future... anti-matter power is.

  • Too far into the future

  • Fusion is the future. Sure, it's a bitch to get working, but so was the computer...

That said, there's nothing wrong with complementing the existing power grid with solar, wind and wave power. In fact, it's the only economically sane choice for the community (but not, of course, to oil and uranium merchants).

  • Wind and solar are terrible energy sources.

They require HUGE areas, are intermittent and are expensive. They require you to build huge redundant fossil fuel back-up sources for when the sun isn't shining and the wind isn't blowing.

    Nuclear is superior.

  • Unfortunately easily mineable Uranium won't last long :(

Energy storage technologies such as flywheels make intermittent energy sources (solar/wind/tidal) more feasible. eg: Beacon Power makes a flywheel system integrated into a standard movable shipping container that can store/discharge 250 kilowatt hours of energy.

  • Fortunately, there is a lot of room for solar.

  • I never said they were a replacement, I said they could complement existing energy infrastructure.

  • Nuclear Meltdown?

  • where will you "mine" this anti-matter?

  • with a low energy antiproton ring "LEAR"

  • you do understand that this is an energy LOSS reaction to create these antiprotons, right?

  • no 8P

  • I'm saving this one for when I learn to read lips. It looks good anyway.

  • Can't see graphs and sound is awful. I'll try their site...

    Not a good advert.

  • Why is it someone doing a poor "beatbox" is audible, yet someone with maybe valid,(i can't hear anything) video, is reduced to this level of quality? Hurry up and sort it out or put up a disclaimer. It will make great talks look amateur and de-value them.

  • There is a technology, there is no will.

  • only fix the sound, excelent clip!

  • But what's with the sound?? VERY low!! Please, do something about it.

  • interestingly, i work for this company.

  • to listen with headphones... Thanks for the insights. I felt great after watching this :)

  • Audio is horrible.

  • they need to re-upload this with better audio.

  • you can download in HD for storage directly from their website.

You can also watch these videos in a higher quality.

I'm not sure if this video has improved audio quality there, it may have been an analog issue when filming.

  • LOL, you guys are hilarious, the you tubers that have commented on the audio on this video. LOL it is pretty bad. Its prob just the government fuzzing it up so people don't hear the good plans for the future. "WHEN THE POWER OF LOVE OVERCOMES THE LOVE OF POWER, THE WORLD WILL KNOW PEACE." -Jimmy Hendrix

  • I want one of those planes.

  • You need headphones for this one. But worth it.

  • yep, need to delete and reload - audio is not audible.

you can amp it up with the AUDACITY d0t 0rg freeware sound editing program.

  • The audio is horrible.

  • Those were primitive times.

  • Fix sound please. Otherwise great video!

  • Save the wild animals! This is critical to live on earth.

  • wish i could read lips
