  • how do these guidelines apply to high level athlets that train two to three times a day?

  • Kellogg's All Bran (original) cereal is NOT low GI. It has added sugar and hfcs.

I think starch is a bigger problem than sugar is. Sugar is only half glucose. The insoluble fiber in starch does not slow its absorption.

  • Oh hai, Check out That new intellectus 424 diet (Google it). Me and my wife lost crazy amounts of unwanted weight best result ever.

  • I eat cereal mostly buy not everyday w/ 2% milk so that's bad?

  • grapes are they high glycemic or medium?

  • Reminds me, I need walnuts now

  • If Natalie were a Mormon, I would convert to Mormonism and try to woo her into becoming my third wife.

  • Damn!! I finally accept that maybe three two liters of soda a day were not good for me and probably the reason I'm over weight. Trying to learn how to beat my soda addiction I find out there is not much I eat that is good for me.I will be happy if i can beat the soda but after i do rather than go on a diet I think i could probably succeed with just changing my diet. Arrgg I so hate water and I feel awful without soda but I would love to get my energy back. I used to be so active not so now days

  • I think Natalie is the perfect nutritionist, especially for this format. She knows her stuff, first and foremost. But also, she's beautiful and nice to look at. And she has a very nice voice too. I could look and listen all day.

  • i am on SOOOOOOOOOOOO many energy drinks a day :(

  • Einstein Brothers Bagels have pumpernickel bagels. I like them.

  • no nonsense the best real way to get rid of the fat , for more info copy this link and past into ur browser -----> fly2.ws\sGuDmTF

  • Thank you for the definition and explaining how to offset the sugar spike. Sugar is one of the many common poisons: salt, white flour, white rice, and vinegar.

  • So what exactly do the numbers on the GI measure?

  • Good video. I'm 44 year-old man, and I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a couple of months ago. I immediately cut out white bread, sugar, soft drinks, potatoes, pasta, white rice, etc. and replaced them with wheat bread (with no high fructose corn syrup), iced tea & snacks sweetened with Splenda (which helps tremendously). I've been losing weight - a good thing, since I'm 100 pounds overweight. I didn't know that watermelon was high glycemic, or that al dente pasta was low glycemic.

  • that plum was a nectarine.

  • apples still make my blood sugar rise

I can't eat an apple alone

  • umm..

  • I like how she pronounces words like food with an umlaut.

  • LoL I love how she was like "FRENCH FRIES!"

  • This was wonderful explanation of what the glycemic index is.

It might be worth mentioning that the sugar in fruit is fructose and (high) fructose is also in a can of soda, but there is a difference in how the two affect ones glycemic index and insulin levels.

    I like your videos, Natalie.

  • Actually, commiting to and staying with "regular exercise" is allegedly harder to do than quitting nicotine (or even heroin).....95% of the people in the USA are basically, like sea sponges, "sessile".

  • Thanks Natalie

  • Really great video :) Just one question: why are sweet potatoes low glycemic and white potatoes high glycemic? Sweet potatoes taste sweet, it's a wonder that they are on the low glycemic list.

  • @xena576

Good question. The difference between white and sweet potateos is that sweet potatoes have more fiber and the fiber lowers the glycemic index. That is why white bread shoots your blood-sugar up fast while whole wheat doesn't. Fiber aids with digestion and makes you feel full. Eat some pancakes/waffles with fake maple syrup and an hour later you might be starving. East buckwheat pancakes with fruit and you will feel full longer.

  • wow thanks so much to this vid. I have a severe sugar addiction. i eat candy like all day long and my coworkers make fun of me and call me candy girl. Anyway i am ready to try this out and completly kick my sugar addiction. i don't even care for food anymore i just eat hard candy.

  • Isn't white bread 70 while glucose itself is 100?

  • ive been meaning to try the GI diet for years. Now seems like good time. I know you can lose weight well and I think being more attuned to what you eat is better than just trying to avoid and ignore what you take in . I really want to know now. And I love white bread but I have to give it up!

  • skim milk is ok to drink? i thought it didn't have enough fat in it to balance out the sugar content. i was told whole milk is the healthiest. also, i've heard that the fat reduced fat items is replaced with unnatural things harmful to our bodies... is this true? what are your thoughts?

  • nice information on the glycemic index... i also have some weight loss videos with tips for people trying to lose weight, check it out people. and keep watching her videos, they're good

  • Very good video

  • If you think youre fat, you probably are!!! Visit bit[.]ly/a7XdjP

  • Dang, those cookies behind you looked good. I didn't hear anything you said after you put those up. Yummy!

  • Peoples sugar addiction is from low dopamine levels from all the toxins we are exposed to.

  • This is the most spot on diet for anyone looking to lose weight or wanting to be healthy, it just makes sense, believe me it has changed my life.

  • really good site for learning what you are actually eatting is nutritiondata.self.com. Has a GI index on it too and a completeness guide to show what nutrients foods are missing so people can plan balanced meals. I don't work for them but I found the site and have started using it to alter what I eat.

  • @adoravenus3 Thanks alot, that site sounds really great. I will check it out. May as well give a shoutout while im thinking about it, Sean Croxton, Dr. Mercola, and Paul Check are also really good sources for health info and have helped me alot, as well as Psychetruth.

  • amazing

  • I love how she says skim milk is low GI, but leaves out whole having an even lower GI.

  • Guy A gets hotter girls, but these girls are shallow. Another quick example, guy A and guy B are in a plane going down. Guy A grabs a burger(we all see the scene on T.V. when someone is stressed and they tried so hard to look good and then they grab a hotdog or something).

What im trying to say is be healthy but enjoy life and your food and anything else that you feel is good, because lets face it most of our bodies when we hit 70 is gonna shut down slowly. Except you Natalie.

  • "because lets face it most of our bodies when we hit 70 is gonna shut down slowly"

We're going to die one day or another, so according to You there is no purpose in doing anything. Cause what's the purpose of postponing something if it's going to come by sooner or later. Why develop as a person or upkeep Your level of development, if it's going to decline one day or the other?

Everything we do is just postoponing of decline, but some prefer to postpone it longer.

  • I have to disagree with this video 100%. Let me start with an example: Guy A works out and takes lots of heathy crap and love it because he's buff. He eats foods that are crap and/or he mixes good food with "balancing foods".

Guy B(me) Doesn't work out. He is fit naturally, but he eats sugar, hamburgers, soda "pop", and other awsome food. Guy A may think everything is awsome and live a lie that he feels great. But Guy B is really the one who is awsome. Also Guy B gets girls like Natalie :)

  • @vctrfs

guy B dies in 10 yrs from heart failure

guy A gets poon till hes 60.

    good one.

  • @life4blood

Gyu B dies with no regrets and did awsome things with hot woman and died with doing both of them

Guy A Can't get it up no more and pisses outta a bag and who's body hurt all the time. It's a pysical hell!

  • @vctrfs Normally people like you won't get high quality information like I just gave you because person like you are so negative and smarty pant. But today is your lucky day because I feel vindictive tonight.

  • @vctrfs show me your girl then! haha. Maybe uploard your video to prove it!

  • @sai18kit Show you my broad to prove what? I made this comment literally about 3 months ago. Dude get on with your life, rather than make re: comments that are 3 months old. Also, how about doing more important things with yourself, like spelling words correctly.

  • @vctrfs like you have more life than I do because you reply to my reply to your 3 months old comment.

You think I have been browsing all the comments because I have no life. You don't know why I am doing it so it's just your assumption.

I was doing it to see what people (potential clients for health business) are watching videos like this one and try to find out the kind of words they use, and to write a copy-writing sales letter that targets this market.

  • @sai18kit Yea, once poeple see your name in the comments section of this video, your business should skyrocket. I think the "I don't eat because I have no money" diet plan is better than your $20 health fitness tofu shake. If your doing a business plan, please make sure to add in when your going to put the "out of business sign". Usually poeple(especially me)like it next to the grand opening sign.Welcome to recession :)

  • @vctrfs Sheeples don't know where recession come from, and rely on government to do something to save them, thus escalate the problems. The government created recession after recession thru its policy driven economy. They borrow heavily from the Federal Reserve and prints out paper money. So business who doesn't have money making ability is able to borrow their way to create a bubble. Bubbles add up to create a national/global scale bubble, and then babble burst.

  • @vctrfs so there is no such thing as "oh there is a recession, so let stop doing business and stop finding job and just ask the government to give us stimulus money" Anywhere, anytime, true producers will always find ways to increase and create values that the people really need and generate true wealth and employments through that. Then the government come and siege the wealth through tax, policy, monopoly (Ironic), legistration, inflation (Cause by paper money), and propaganda

  • @vctrfs Governments like to blame the true producers "evil, uncompassionate capitalists". Truth is, the Nortel (Government supported monopoly), Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac (Government forced them to lend money to the poor). They are either Government backed monopoly, or half-nationalized business)

Then they find someone to blames. And create more stimulus package and policies that push the countries further into debts, big-governments, and ultimately tyranny.

  • Very informative video.

  • Is bacon good to eat?

It does not raise my BG much and have energy for 6-8 hours!

2 slice of bacon has 6 gr of fat.

    Not much!

vs. 1 table spoon of olive oil has 16 gr of fat!

  • aww adorable face :'(

  • Want to lose weight fast but still safely ? Without exercising whole day ? Check out my profile and get Free Trial on Best Diet Supplement.

  • Cool. Free diet avaiable ! Check my profile for more details.

  • she is kinda hot

  • How many fruits can you eat a day and still lose weight? I am walking every day (7 days a week for about 40 min) and I eat a lot of veggies. I have lost 10 pounds but I was not having any type of sugar, even the one coming from fruits. Thank you

  • @delvamar As long as the fruits you are eating aren't high in Glycemic index enough to trigger your insulin, then you are not getting fat.

Insulin causes your cells to convert glucose in your blood into fat. That's how people get fat.

And after the blood sugar is gone, you will feel hungry again and eat more insulin triggering foods. That's how you get fat.

So fruits aren't equal to fat. Even tho they are sweet

  • wooow im really amazed by some of the foods she points out as high! i mean, french fries, soft drinks, jelly beans duhhh but some of them I eat all the time. I'm not sugar addicted or anything and I have a healthy BMI I'm just watching this video to get an idea of what is high in sugar.

  • White pasta, no matter how you cook it, is not low glycemic.

  • you're great, thanks.

  • What's with the apples? You own apple stock or something?

  • nutrition is about being healthy, HEALTHY not having a BMI of 16. just because you're dumb enough to think that healthy is just the opposite of fat doesn't mean the rest of us are. jesus christ, go to the library.

  • still... if you're overweight you're not healthy

clearly this fatty is not healthy

i don't want her to give advice to others

  • she IS healthy, are you blind? lay off the ANTM and The Hills, it's distorting your ability to determine what healthy looks like. seriously, turn the television off for a week or two and you'll see a huge difference

her bmi can't be higher than 22, she is a perfect weight and looks to be in perfect health. pause the video around the 0:44 mark, you'll see she has well formed biceps and is perfectly well proportioned, she also has a lean jaw line and prominent cheek bones. get a grip.

  • what is ANTM and Hills? are those some kind of diet pills...

anyway i don't see what television has to do with how fat this girl is

  • it has a lot to do with your (our) perception of the world so to speak....

  • no it has more to do with our perception of the fat on her arms and face

    and sagging breasts

  • | they also are part of the world :D

  • Thanks natalite your information is what nobdy wants to tell you and I just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my nubers are alwyas high. The doctors put you on insulin and through you to the wolves. Now that I've viewed your video I now kno how to get it right,

  • Your videos are the best. I never really understood nutrition before, but you make it so easy for anyone to understand. And you're hot. My nutrition teacher was never like this!

  • thanks for the advice :)

  • Cheerios! I'm so shocked!

  • @Glotion

Ya want even more of a shock? look on the cheerios box and notice how much salt there is in there. Almost all the salt your body needs in one serving of cheerios. Its a nasty cereal.

  • I hate this video! eat what u want dude!

  • cinnamon is great for metabolizing sugar

  • Men, how of hands: how many of you would sleep with Natalie?

  • you better believe it

  • A very important thing she didn't mention is that Insulin is necessary to convert food into fat and that insulin is a very corrosive hormone.

  • very good video

  • do these facts still stand for organic food?

  • mmmmmmm coookie !

  • My 85 yo Daddy was 5'9 and weighed 165 which is not overweight, but he was type 1 diabetic with a growth on one of his lungs and he was too weak to walk or stand. Before cutting out part of Daddy's lung, the Dr put him on a "no white" diet and he lost 25# in 6 wks while eating tons of vegies, fruits and meats and during that time he no longer needed the insulin shots. All his life he had been eating dessert with each meal and he liked white bread with lots of jelly.

  • Sounds very much like a low carbohydrate type of diet as recommended by Dr. Bernstein. After trying unsuccessfully a so called low GI diet, I went to low carb and lost 10 Kgs.

After 5 years, still same weight.

  • @Eagle109 wow can you write a formal testimony on that? I will put it on an about.com, hubpage, or squidoo len article to show other than even type 1 diabete can be treated with raw diet.

  • how long does it take to conquer this?

  • wow i need this for cross country

  • I still eat sugar and stay skinny.

  • I can't believe I lost 26 pounds in 8 weeks. All I did was tried Exact Acai, and it really worked.

    youcanloseweight. webs. com

  • eat all fruits! do not confuse your mind... they have fruktose. fruktoze is more complex than glukoze. and fruits have fibres...

  • A lot of information to digest.

  • i though cheerios were a good healthy food.

  • I crave sugar a lot and it is really hard 4 me 2 quit eatin it I suppose its like being addicted 2 smoking which I have never done. This video is really helpful and I will defo try 2 stop with the information u have given me. Thank u. = ) xXxXx

  • Can't be harder than quitting smoking. I am proud of myself for quitting.

  • Congratulations!! I've heard that quitting smoking is very tough!

You have succeeded where many people have relapsed.

  • You must have a really high Glycemic Index because you seem so sweet. Thank you for the great information!

  • @hakku68 High gl isn't about how sweet it is. Even though high gl food is sweet.

Low gl can be very sweet too. It's just not releasing as much and as quickly blood sugar into the blood as the high gl food does

  • I don't know if it was mentioned here but I just want to say l-glutamine has done wonders, WONDERS for my sugar cravings especially during that TOM. I'm on Atkins personally and I could never stick to it because I'd derail during PMS. Started taking 1g of glutamine on an empty stomach and OMG, no more binging on sweets, and my moderation has been restored with regards to cheat days. It's amazing. It's good for strength training too I recommend people take it if they're not already.

  • yea but how do you break the mental addiction to sweets. I love that stuff. Please see my video.

  • wow youre hot

  • I beat sugar addiction by using this wonderful cancerous chemical called Aspartame.

    lol

and to think im not a dumbass. well I guess I didnn't care. lifes to short. but I like having a nice body to.

  • i've told people about aspartame, but it's like i'm crazy or something...they just don;t wanna listen

  • thank again..

  • One extremely low GI food is chana dal, which is really popular in India, you can get it online or in indian grocery stores.

  • Am I wrong in commenting that there is a difference between carbohydrates and fructose contained in fruit? I can see that they may both have an effect on the blood sugar level, but is the adsorption different?

  • Thank you! This is very helpful!

  • When you say cherios are in the high GI index is that because of all the sugar in them. I eat a natural oat cherios with no sugar added. I presume this is not the same.

  • @olgalittle

Food does not have to be sweet in order to have an impact on your insulin level. High glycemic food sweet or not, means they break down into sugar faster in your body.

  • her voice is amazing

  • Wow I couldn't disagree more.

  • aparently 3 other people disagree with you that makes us 4 against 1 (you) so yeah

  • That's ok, I agree with that ;)

  • What is Glycemic Load? Is it the same as Glycemic Index?

  • You dont need a list. Just use your brain and avoid anything MANmade, any food MAN artificially created/processed turns beings into artificially alienated obese BLOBS of oscure fat-flesh. Why? Because MAN is a failure and sucks at using his full potential. Have a BALANCED and reasonable mix of fruits, vegs, meat, eggs, nuts anything nature provides that grows, feels naturally evolved and "pure", that's all. No need for glycemic technobabble, its for the gullible. Oh and move your ass of course.

  • Good . But I lost over 30 lb in one month using weight loss plan from LSWEIGHT(.)INFO

Awesome! You look amazing and happy! I hope your video helps others with the same issues!

  • Nat-

I love you and your videos but the first 3 minutes of this vid was completely redundant. I still gave an Awesome rating because I want you to continue making vids.

    Thanks

  • I am surprised watermelon has a high GI food. Yet I looked at some websites and it said watermelon doesn't really have a high glucose blood level because of its relatively low carbohydrate. Thus watermelon is different from those high carbohydrate food like rice, nuts, etc...

  • Watermelons may well be high GI since it is supposed to be a measure of blood-sugar spiking not a metric for total carb-content. As pointed out, GI is an heuristic or "rule-of-thumb" and has a number of flaws. One of them being the existence of multple GI scales the other being that some foods have anomalous responses. There is some interesting info on the Wikipedia talk page for "Glycemic Index". GI is handy for dieters but anyone with a serious health issue may want something more precise.

  • You are confusing the high GI because of the sugar in the fruit. Carbohydrates are absorbed differently than fructose in the watermelon.

  • @presentiment that means, pound vs pound, watermelon has less carb.

But carb vs carb. Carb from watermelon release glucose into your blood faster than other carb from other lower gl food.

  • also, all the lists i've looked at show white bread as 70 or so, and you said the whole list was based off white bread being 100...can you explain??

  • That confusion comes about because there are actually two glycemic indexes and they get mixed up sometimes. One of them used white bread as the standard (100) and the other used pure glucose as the standard (100).

The two indexes have been mixed up a bit depending on which website you go to.

Regardless, the index does not have to be perfect for you to use it. It's simply a rule of thumb that works pretty good and if you eat lower GI foods, you blood sugar will be more stable.

  • this glycemic index thing does not make total sense to me. the list you gave a link for shows chocolate cake with frosting as having a lower glycemic index than most of the fruits on the list. that doesn't seem like a good guide to healthy eating.....

  • She's hot.

  • Natalie reminds me of Dr. Henry Mankin perhaps the greatest orthopaedic surgeon in the world who had this intense desire to teach and knew how to teach it. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and having the gift of teaching it at a level where everyone can understand it. For some reason I think you will win the Nobel Peace Prize for bringing awareness of nutrition to the world.

  • It is very interesting to see that a very vocal "expert" on diabetic diets has gone "low catb". See Mendossa-

    Diabetes Update Number 114: Low-Carb of January 1, 2008.

    Also he recommends Dr. Bernstein

Dr. Bernstein's next LIVE Tele-Seminar is Wednesday, July 30, at 8:00 PM EST, 7:00 PM CST, 6:00 PM MST, and 5:00 PM PST.

    Hope for diabetics yet

  • Glycemic Index sounds real scientific- but is it ?

A retired Industrial chemist indicates the chemical flaws used by the researchers in their calculation of GI.

See GLYCEMIC INDEX- why it does not worK ?

  • However,Glycemic Load is based on DIRECT measurement of the glycemic response to a known weight of test food. No calculation or estimation of GI from apparent weight of contained CARBOHYDRATE is needed. Although the GI Researchers can't or don't want to understand this, it is a fact.

  • Omg, I freaked out at the high glycemic index list! I eat so many of those foods daily! I just ate bagels and jelly beans today!

  • thank you for the feed back..

it sure helps me in knowing what to eat and not eat..once again thanks for your kind knowledge, ill keep looking for more videos.

    marlene.

  • Please refer to my video-

GLYCEMIC INDEX- why it does not worK ?

Copy and paste into SEARCH box.

  • This was very inspirational and uplifting, I may incorporate some of this into my fitness competion

    Thanks for this

    ♥TonyaTko

  • As a diabetic (28 years) with gastroparesis, I am so confused as to what to eat. Sometimes things with low carbohydrates and a low glycemic index do nothing to help me.

However, I really do appreciate this vid. There are so many type 2 diabetics who can benefit from this greatly!

    Linds

  • (aside from refined sugars) I cook mostly north indian food , which is mostly lentils, chick peas, and kidney beans (all low GI/GL), and I didn't used to like them until I used indian masalas, (sub veggie broth for ghee and oil)

  • A great & informative vid. Thank you.

  • good video Nat!!!

  • I'm a type2 diabetic and this info is a great source in reminding me to manage my sugars more closely. I enjoy finding quick tips and fun ideas from you. Keep up the fun and informative videos!!! and thank you!

  • thanks for all the great info, i really enjoy your efforts in trying to educate us

  • FUCK soda unless it's all NATURAL like virgils! :)

  • Learnt something. Five stars. Peace.

  • good stuff, I like it an so do my daughters, keep it up.

  • this is really great! can't wait to see the next vid!

  • im trying to change my diet for my skin and then people tell me fruits are bad for me?..

just because it can rot my teeth but i brush my teeth with pronamel toothpaste after so i should be fine, right?

  • Dr. Vince made a video about eating for the skin! check it out on psychetruth's page!

  • i know.. that's why im changing my diet.

  • fruit? nah thats good for your teeth.

whats bad is these donuts ive got

    lol

  • You can pretty much simplify some of this by not eating what Arnold called the white death. Sugar, flour, salt. I quit eating these things and lost 85 pounds. I eat whole grain pasta only, whole grain bread in small amounts, and fresh fruits and vegetables. You can also slowly eliminate red meat and fowl from your diet and that will help you lose weight and lower your cholesterol.

  • I basicically did the same thing and I feel a lot healthier.

  • Is this the same Arnold AKA The Governator that had a heart by-pass surgery?
