  • @Flipdance Sure, Russians are very good, but are atanomically incorrect. Many ballerinas in the Russian (Vaganova) companies get knee and hip replacements when they are in thier twenties and have to stop dancing altogether by the time they turn thirty. There are plenty of good, atanomically correct teachings, which is why Vaganova style isn't that great.

  • They should prohibit anyone but Mariinksy Theater to dance the Swan Lake.

    This performance is just ridiculous!

  • to early and they were sloppy (unrefined) the last one was always a step behind...i'd expect more form a pros

  • wow. i did this at an intensive class for a week during this summer. so intensive. hense the name.. haha. anyways it looks so easy, but its hard. we also did the little swan variation and that was alot harder though. that has alot of copas and little steps, while this has lots of leaps and jumps and arabeasks . this one is alot easier though.

  • I have to agree that in this especific performance they're not ensemble, but that doesnt change anything, they pefect tecnique and bodies, made a beautifull perfomance,,

  • Twirling Guy, ya need to get a clue. You want to see professional dancers, watch a Russian company. You want the precision of fully trained dancers, go see a Russian based company. You want to see posers who call themselves professionals, go watch half of the regional companies in the US, and even some of the dancers in ABT.

  • Wonderful! Thanks for the video-- I <3 Bolshoi!!

  • the music was so obviously laid over the video.

  • nie równo.

  • my ballet school did a remake of this.i was one of the big swans.just thought i'd comment that it is indeed a difficult dance. the music's syncopated and the dancers have to start even without the music. i remember that we had to slow down the music we were gonna use coz we definitely couldn't catch up with it. i don't know if they're called big swans because of the height of the dancers, but in our case, we were the tall ones. and yeah, the smaller ones played the small swans pas de quatre. :)

  • ...but their ensemble is kinda sloppy, isn't it? Not very uniform.

  • True, not military-style uniform, but pretty good considering the difficulty and speed at which they're dancing.

  • Hm, well I think if they're professionals that shouldn't be an excuse.

  • If you are looking for precious dancers who are not fully trained artist/athletes, don't waste your time watching Russian trained dancers. Stick with ladida non-progressive dance from poorly trained American or English "schools". Second, you are wathcing a youtube video; everything looks sloppy on that.

  • All I'm saying is the ensemble isn't tight in this clip, Russian company or not.

  • Bolshoi always produces VERY good Ballets. Thanks SO much for posting! This is absolutely amazing, I love ballet. The Pas De Quatre is very beutiful, check that out!

  • why big swans?

  • There's also the Small Swan Pas de Quatre.

  • They are the tallest girls in the corps...

  • Do they really need to be the tallest? I don't think that is the "rule" . . .

Generally, just listen to the music. The small swan pas de quatre uses music that suggest flegglings. While, obviously, this movement has more gradiose music.

They choose the partners based on similar height within each movement, not on who are the smallest and largest in the corp.

  • technically its not a rule...but most companies do tend to choose taller girls for the parts...

  • Wonderful! Thank you for posting these beautiful videos.
