Nice, the way the water splashed out looked hard to animate, but one thing i find in common with water manipulation in animation videos is that it lacks the mist created when water hits the ground and ends up rolling across the floor. The mist is probably hard to create, but is it possible to add friction as well as prevent the water seperating into individual drops? It has a much stronger "stickiness" than most animations show.
@Gordonverno I could have added mist/splash, but even to this day I honestly have never tried it. Real Flow 4 seemed to have a slightly more difficult way of creating mist particles, with the need to use scripts, I just never got around to learning that.
@AquaGeneral oyee pero dices que te kedo malo pero perodna k te contradiga pero yo lo veo muy bien muyy realista isiste algun curso de esto amiguito o solo eres estudiante cibernetico?'

@yobani1989 When did I say you were wrong? Unless you are referring to when I said "With a computer that is what comes out, it takes effort to make it not perfect"? If that is the case what I meant that as in I copied and pasted the dominoes, so they were placed with exact spacing. If I wanted to make the positioning of each domino slightly off it would actually work out to be slower to do.
And yes, I guess I would still call myself a beginner

I love the global illumination you did there. Inspiring! :) Camera movement is a bit jerky at times, but the ending is great! Didn't see that coming hehe.
UMM...AWESOME! Those specs are amazing! 200 hours for a render? Understandable at HD, but dude, it's time to upgrade. A single frame like that for me would only take a couple of minutes with Mental Ray in 3DS Max.
Remember that I am using GI, area lights, ambient occlusion, and area shadows. The polygon count of the water is over 1 million.
Keep in mind I did try to optimize the scene a lot, but in the end my brother made me stick with what looked best as I didnt have to worry about the render time too much.
Yeah, the water is understandable, but maybe not 200 hours for me. Maybe my renderer is faster, because even with Global Illumination, Ambient Occlusion and Ray Traced shadows, I doubt anything like that would take so long for me. I might be wrong, but still...
There should be a small difference between 3DS Max and Maya since, as far as I know a renderer if integrated properly should function the same in any application,
Specs:
CPU: Intel E6850 @ 3.6GHz (this might be different to the overclock I had when I rendered)
I have a 2.4 Ghz Dual Core Processor (how may cores has yours got?) 4GB of RAM, ATi Radeon HD 2400 XT (a terrible graphics card, but doesn't affect the render) and Vista Ultimate 32 Bit. If yours is single core, mine is faster :D
I have just rendered the mesh with the default grey material with defualt lighting and it beat C4D by about 20x. C4D is very hopeless at handling complex geometry, this is most likely why it took me an hour per frame.

The domino effect was actually quite simple. In Real Flow I lowered the friction a little and the scale a little. I don't really think the tutorials would be any different, just try to keep the dominoes small to match the real world scale.

One thing I am sure of is that mental ray is much slower than Advanced Render 3. Though this is okay because mental ray is suited to photorealism.
I will render a quick test inside of Maya to compare the two together.
AquaGeneral 2 years ago
Ok. Do you think render speed would be different in 3DS Max? Also, what are your hardware specs?

The domino effect was actually quite simple. In Real Flow I lowered the friction a little and the scale a little. I don't really think the tutorials would be any different, just try to keep the dominoes small to match the real world scale.
Good luck

Can I ask how long the render took? not the simulation.
niiidar 3 years ago
I will make this info a little clearer soon.
These are the render times for two halfs of the animation inside C4D.
Shots without water - 35 hours
Shots with water - 200 hours
So the total render time is 235 hours.
