  • You can get vegan stuff on the run by saying you are hard core vegetarian and lactose intolerant (hardcore vegetarian (a caring person, really)meaning no eggs and fish! (although that should be an obvious one with vegetarianism)). That has worked for my friend, Brandon, and I. Also, if I were not a poor and lazy college student, I would recommend your meal structure - not meat with a fudge load of fruits and vegetables. We love you! Hope this helps.

  • Eat grains, vegetables, fruits, and legumes. All done!

  • The only real way to ensure vegan meals on the go is to plan ahead and make something. Even if it's just pb&j or keeping cereal bars in my purse.

  • Hahaha, yeah. The American southeast is really meat oriented. The whole area in general tends to be really agricultural and a lot of it goes back to slavery. Slaves would typically get the leftovers of any meat meal after it had been cut up and served to the family, so many slaves grew accustomed to foods like fat back, chitlins, and bacon. 100 years later, it's just sort of an institution here.

I live in Memphis myself, and Memphis barbecue is considered a huge deal.

  • It was probably fat back that was in the green beans. Eh, bacon is close.

  • you

    need

    PROTEIN!

  • Of course, and your point is?

  • eat protein,

or you'll never grow up big and strong.

you can get it from way more things that meat.

    thats what i do :)

    je suis vegetarian.

  • Ahhhhhhh :-)

    Yes indeed.

  • ;-) by the way, "ficken" means in German "to fuck". Regards Steve

  • yea i see what you talking about, no liveing creature should be in pain. are you apart of peta ?

  • Nope. PeTA does some great undercover expose work but they market to people as if they are idiots a lot of the time, which really puts me off.

  • alright i am sorry, just seems a vegan diet is very strict and is very controlling of a persons free sprit. and yea i smashed heads with vegans in the past, some are very vendictive, i shouldn't hate an idea because a few people treid to force their ideas on me,

  • "a vegan diet is very strict and is very controlling of a persons free sprit."

No fucking way dude! You have no idea how much better I feel, and how free I feel. You see the thing is that I have always deeply loved animals and felt an empathy with them. But our society teaches us that 'some animals are made to be eaten' and 'it's the food chain' etc. So I always assumed that although it was sad that animals suffered for us there was no other way. I also had NO idea how much animals suffered.

  • ...I was listening to an online radio show about something completely different and the hosts said they had just seen the film Earthlings and that it had spurred them to become vegan. I actually knew two vegans but neither of them had ever tried to tell me why they were vegan and I had never been curious enough to ask, but hearing it on the podcast made me curious. They said the film was really graphic but that the information it contained had changed their whole perspective on life. Two weeks..

  • ...later my partner and I had built up the courage to watch it online. We cried the whole way through. A beef and cheese lasagne was thawing in the kitchen for dinner, we threw it in the bin and felt grateful to go hungry. I went vegetarian immediately but it took me a few weeks of research to truly accept that veganism was the only way to stop contributing to the suffering. I did lots of research on farmed animals, agricultural methods and nutrition, and am now armed with the truth...

  • ...all I am trying to do is share that with others. When I first got an account on here it was just so I could have Earthlings in a playlist there so that people who read my comments could come to my channel and might be inspired to watch it. One day I was very frustrated so I decided to make some videos to blow off steam and connect with other vegans, found I enjoyed making videos and decided to keep doing it. I just want to share information with others, in the hope it will be as lifechanging

  • ...in a positive way for them as it has been for me. Making this change has improved my wellbeing all over, and is well worth the label reading (which becomes easy and almost instinctive quite quickly) and harrassment I sometimes recieve from others who find the mere fact I am vegan offensive.

There are some vegans who make it harder for everyone by directing their frustrations at non-vegans. This is wrong, and probably results causes a lot of the anger I see on here against vegans.

  • Check my other comment dude. This reaction seems very unprovoked considering the nature of the videos you are leaving these comments on. For instance you are talking about control and on this video I am just trying to help someone out who has made the choice to go vegan. She, like you, was against hurting animals and after finding some information out decided to give it a try. She asked me for help so I delivered it as best I could.

  • After you've been vegan a long time the texture and taste of flesh will start to disgust you, and then you won't need to eat all that mock meat/fish stuff ;-)

  • Yeah, I think I'm off it already LOL Still loving the soy milk though. Thank you so much for your advice, it is excellent! Good advice for anyone; the best way for everyone to eat is whole foods, and if you make them yourself you will always know your food is 100% vegan - which is a great feeling :-)

  • @cubuwu mock meat taste bad anyways better of with nuts avocado, olive oils and such for fats and protein

  • ooo really you will? lol

  • I didn't say I would, I know you would be into it but myself and others subscribed to me would probably be quite grossed out LOL If you wanna see more videos of me eating like a pig there are plenty of them if you look through my vids LOL

  • I think new vegans tend to complicate things too much by buying specialist products. I think you need to strip it back to basics and cook with a lot of pulses, nuts and vegetables. Also, remember to snack on shit loads of raw fruit and smoothies made of soy milk and bananas or other fruits or nuts. Also, hummous and veg wraps and easy made in tacos and bowls of wholemeal cerial with soya milk. She'll have to get used to eating more often but with smaller portions. Also check out my channel ;-)

  • Yeah, i'm more or less vegan now, my moms actually buying more stuff i can eat, some of it is processed, and some of it is lots of whole foods. You know, i feel much more energetic than i did when i was snacking on milk, cheese sandwiches, wotsits, and other things, even with healthy meals and it's only been a short time.. I still think i need a bit of help though lol.

  • Ok cool...well if you need help and you have messenger you can chat to me! You0ll have to send me a personal message with your address though..I can't write to you here because you have your account blocked or something ...

  • Actually, I think whole foods is the best way to go... a lot of vegan pre-prepared stuff isn't that healthy OR tasty! Also, it can cost a fortune!!

  • The problem with milk and meat is, that they imply hormones which aren't good for peoples' health. Especially oestrogens and growth hormones, there are a lot of growth hormones in milk because the cows are unnaturally "souped-up", to produce more milk. Those growth hormones advance cancer, which is logical.

  • can you do more eating videos, and maybe zoom inside your mouth so we can see you chewing and swallowing it from inside your mouth

  • Har har har!

  • You are so damn cute!!

  • Thank you *blush*

  • good it wasnt a fish taste and a duck taste.

    f...

  • LOLLLLLLLLLLLLZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • A ficken? OMG. You most probably didn't know up to this comment that "ficken" is the German word for "to fuck", right? *g* (It is, I'm not joking.)

So, chish, maybe. But who knows what that means in, say, Arabic? LOL

  • Who knew how rude I could be without even meaning to! LOL

  • i bought "veganomicon: the ultimate vegan cookbook" about a week ago from barnes & noble. it has pretty much everything you can think of, like waffles, cake, soups, tacos, dressings and salads, "snobby joes", etc. there are hundreds of yummy recipes in it. one particularly handy extra for someone having trouble shopping for vegan food, is the book lets you know which recipes have ingredients that you should be able to find at your local grocer. plus, it was only $22, so go buy it!

  • Yeah, I need to get that book too :)

  • I LOVE SHITAKIE MUSHROOMS! my dad grows them.

    and the fish looks good.

  • Shitake mushrooms are the bomb! LOL :)

  • Oh, no fair Nathy, I was already hungry...now I'm starving!!! Why didn't I buy crisps when I was at the shop! :( LOL

  • One last attempt at posting part 2 of my response You tube ate it 3 times last night. Peta has a lot of info on their site GOVEG under the vegetarian cooking header including a section on "mainstream" foods that happen to be Vegan. When you are out somewhere and desperate, its nice to know that Fritos are vegan for example. Hang in there, it becomes natural pretty quickly.

  • Yippee! It worked! Excellent advice too - I'm glad you were able to post it :)

  • Oh really?

you dedicated a burp to me?

    FANKS.

    Actaully..no thanks.

    BAM.

    Why arent u on IM?

  • MUSHROOOOOMS.

    Yeah, mushrooms are delicious!

Hmm. I don`t have really any advice for the vegan lady, cuz I`m not vegan yet.

    YET.

    Only 2 more months.

    Fo sho.

    Nice burps by the way.

    Very attractive.

    :P

  • The second burp was for you...sorry I forgot to say..BAM!

  • Thank you so much everyone - these are all such awesome suggestions <3 u guys :)

  • I agree! Thanks so much everyone. Many of you have written to me personally and added me as a friend and your support really means a lot to me in this confusing time of transition into a fully vegan lifestyle. You all are wonderful!

  • i don't know how helpful my advice is seeing as i live in australia, but here it is.

Subway (has someone already mentioned that?) - they make really good sandwiches right in front of you, which is great.

And for a snack that ridicuosly easy, you can just put cinnamon and margarine (a lot of margarine is dairy-free, well in australia it is) on toast.

one of my friends was in kentucky last year, and nearly threw up when she ordered vegetables because they were fried in ham stock :/

  • Grind equal parts pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds and keep them in a jar in the fridge. You can use them to sprinkle on everything (for a shot of protein). You can spice them up to make them savory or use them as is in sweet dishes like hot cereal and soy yogurt.

  • Ohhh ! Awesome suggestion! Thanks, animalliberation0961! That is a really cool idea!

  • wow! yummy..must try! I'm finding that I like to stick flax seed in everything..it has a slightly nutty taste and keeps you regular.

  • First, I have to say that I have been Vegan for a year and a half and I am still finding out about hidden animal ingredients occasionally so, to expect from yourself some sort instant transition to perfect veganism is, in my opinion, setting yourself up for failure. Animal products are literally everywhere not just in food and clothing so, don't beat yourself up when you find out that something you have been eating contains some obscure animal based chemical, just put it on your "no" list.

  • Good advice, cujosdad! :) It is hard though, as when I find I've accidentally ingested animal I feel really sick to my stomach. I know it's psychological, but knowing what that animal has gone through for me to eat it just freaks me out. So it's definitely hard not to "beat myself up" when that happens.

  • I'm the same...although usually its hidden milk products that have tripped me up (they put milk in EVERYTHING here for some weird reason). I feel like an awful person for not being more vigilent...but it does teach you a lesson, and you learn from it :)

  • There is bacon in EVERYTHING here in Texas. It's disgusting.

  • Yeah, same here, winterwinwin. Here a glass of unsweetened iced tea and a slab of meat is considered a meal. lol

  • Regarding sugar in the US, some processed sugar is made using bone char, some isn't. It's very hard to know for sure which is which. You can call the companies but when eating out there are no guarantees and let me say that as far as my subway and taco bell statements, they may have sugar so make your own decision on that.

  • Part#4 First let me say if your friend has any questions, have her contact me. I can suggest certain products or answer any question about ingredients or anything vegan related. As for finding vegan or vegan friendly restaurants there is a great site for that. It's called happycow and the site address ends with "net".

I suggest everyone check that site out. You can find restaurants from many areas all over the world. Also, Indian and Italian are great. Most pastas are vegan. I hope that helped..

  • Fantastic advice. Thank you so much for stopping by to help out!!!! Look Diva, this is a REAL vegan guru - 20 years vegan!!! That is unbelievably awesome :)

  • Ohhh! Happycow. net! Thank you, TVH! :D

  • My part 4 didn't post I guess I have to do it again.

    :-(

  • woops...sorry for the interruption there. Anyway, walmart has a good section in frozen and in vegetable section...but publix is the best if you have one near you. Out of all the supermarkets in the south this one seems to have the best non-meat products I've found. They also have some Tofutti in the ice cream section..yummy ice cream!! Who doesn't love that? :)

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh vegan ice cream!!!! You'll have to sink your fangs into that :)

  • Part#3 Subway is also a place you can eat at. The wheat roll has honey in it but the white roll doesn't so that is completely vegan. Some subways have veggie patties but those aren't vegan. I get a veggie, with avocado and different veggies. There are many other places to eat out at but in general when I am considering a chain, I call the corporate headquarters or check their website for ingredients before I go there. That's how I know that the beans and the rice at taco bell are vegan. (cont)

  • Oh good! I heard the subway suggestion before, which is cool because I love sandwiches. Thank you for all your advice, TheVeganHere! :D It is very helpful!

  • Part #2 I've found that by telling them I am allergic to the ingredients I ask about, and that I get sick if I eat them, the server actually makes sure to double check on the ingredients because they don't want someone getting sick at the restaurant. When simply saying I don't want this or that, they may or may not respect my wishes. Now as far as eating out, as stated, for fast food taco bell is fine. The beans and rice are vegan so you can have a burrito with or even a custom taco. (cont)

  • Cool. I'll have to remember the allergy explanation. You're right, I would make them take better care to keep those things out.

  • I've been vegan for 20 years. I am not proud to admit but I rarely cook. I either eat out or prepare easy stuff like steamed veggies or TV dinners such as Amy's. Although all their stuff is veg, not all of it is vegan. They sell that, in the L.A., California area at mainstream markets. She can eat out at veg restaurants or regular restaurants, but just ask the right questions. Also it's my policy when eating out at new, non vegan places to ask ingredients and let them know I am allergic. (cont)

  • I want to tell you also, be sooo careful at fast food places! I'm not sure but look into whether the tortillas used to make the bean burritos have sugar in them. I did research and found out that plain white sugar is processed by using bones from cows! I don't even see how this is necessary, but it's apparently so as I've found this on several different sites. I know..I'm not making this easy..sorry :( On a lighter note, if you have no natural foods markets near you, Walmart is building

  • Not all sugar is refined using bone char...it isn't in Australia, probably because our sugar is made from sugar cane. People are undecided on whether refined sugar is vegan or not...simply cos you can't tell which is refined using bone char and which isn't.

  • Oh wow, well I'm glad sugar isn't 100% out as I get a sweet tooth every once in a while. :)

  • I'm pretty new to the vegan diet, but I sympathize with Diva...the american south is soo meat oriented...it turns up in everything! In any case, the south is a huge area so I don't know exactly where you are but here in Florida, we have Mother Earth Market and though pricey, they carry a wide range of soy based products that fairly closely mimic meat if you miss it and it's also so easy to make...everything I've found so far just pops into the micro!

  • Yeah, I've found a "natural food" store (I'm assuming they mean organic?) here but they are insanely priced. I'm looking into soy and tofu stuff but that too seems to be pretty pricey.

  • It's terrible that things are so expensive there, there must be some kind of conspiracy. Where I live soy products are comparatively priced or cheaper then animal products.

  • LOL! Yeah, it kind of does feel like a "conspiracy". It's very hard to find vegan products here and the stuff I do find is very pricey. Oh well, I'm sure I'll find some less expensive alternatives. And I'm definately going to have to learn how to cook. lol

  • Oh gosh, I wish being vegetarian/vegan out here cost the same as meat. :/ It's bizarre how out of whack it is here... It's a Meat-and-petroleumproductocracy!

  • Yeah like these veggie sausages I like are $5.00 a pack and it would be about that price for the expensive meat sausages. A pack of tofu is about $3.50-$4.00, a comparatively priced peice of meat would be way more. I think anyway...I haven't looked for ages LOL. Even when I ate meat I kinda left it up to other people to prepare it for me cos I hated handling raw meat.

  • Oh, did you like my unfeminine burp?

  • It was too sexy. I slid off of my seat with excitement. You owe me, I got five stitches in my head because of your unadulterated hotness. *hugs*

  • Yeah...I knew that would turn you on :)

  • Did you know that ficken means to fuck in German? I bet you didn't. :p

  • I thought that was friggen??? Well there you go, I just ate a big mouthful of sex...no wonder I feel so satisfied :-P

  • Oh you naughty naughty girl! LOL :O

  • LOL!!!!!

  • He he he :)

  • also you can eat at taco bell. bean burritos and you could get lettuce and tomatos in it and tostadas.. i heard they don't even use chicken stock in their rice either but will have to double check on that one.. also pizza!! you could get already made pizzas from dominos etc.. for cheap just take off the cheese and it's good! jus stay clear of pizza hut i belive they use meat in their sauce..or ask them to make a veggie pizza wit no cheese and lots of veggie. u will get funny looks but its good!

  • I actually tried taco bell and ordered two bean burritos and told them no cheese.. but guess what? They were loaded with cheese. lol I'm really going to have to learn how to cook! LOL

  • Nope, you just have to watch them being made and remind them no cheese if they start reaching for cheese. If you still get cheese you just have to complain. If it makes life easier you can say you are really badly lactose intolerant, maybe that will make them remember to hold the cheese. They probably just do it out of habit :)

  • They make the food out of site of the customers (which always scared me anyway lol) but yeah, I will defiantly have to learn to double check my orders from now on before leaving with my food.

  • Apparently the deadly allergic to animal products tactic works well LOL :)

  • LOL!! I'll have to remember that.

Hey I just signed up on Peta2. com. The site is awesome!

  • Go Diva!! :)

  • lol that happened to me before too!! and we were already to far from 'taco hell' to return them so i had to give them away :(

  • Yeah, I tried to give them to my cat (because sometimes he'll eat the oddest things and I figure beans wouldn't hurt him) but he licked them and then ran away. lol I didn't mind throwing them away as much as I minded the fact that I "bought cheese". I mean, the more cheese that accidentally gets into my food items the more they are going to have to make. I know, that sounds nuts, but even contributing in a small way to the exploitation of animals isn't acceptable for me.

  • ROFL Girl you're cracking me up! You were spot on, about me being in a southern area. They put meat in just about everything. I don't know if it's the same other places but here when you go into a restaunt the meat is the biggest part of the meal, usually twice the size of anything ele on the plate. You mention to people around here that you don't eat meat and they think you're nuts. So yes, feedback from vegans(particularly any who may live in the south and has any advice) would be great! :)

  • I have heard the green beans with bacon thing a lot on forums and the vegan freak radio podcast, so I knew it was a southern thing :)

  • there are still many things you could get at stores if there is no veg section.. fruits and veggies(of course) veg canned soups/beans etc.(check ingredients) bagels, pastas, etc.. fast food restaurants you could always ask for no meat in your burger and put fries or onion rings in it.. not healthy but if ur hungry it's yummy :) and subway has good sandwiches with avocado and lots of veggies. i have traveled alot in u.s.(broke&dirty lol)even dumpster diving and still ate good :) go freegans!

  • Awesome suggestions :)

  • Thank you, Roln. I appreciate the advice. :D

  • no prob! :) there was actually much more advice i wanted to write but kept exceeding the comment limit :( but if u want anymore advice, tips, or just support im here :)

    peace & solidarity

    go vegans!!

  • Cool, Roln, that's very sweet of you! :D

  • PEACE and LOVE!

  • Well yes, I agree! do you have any suggestions for my friend tho LOL :-P

  • I stoped Eating meat 6 months ago at first it was to see if I had been lied to about that as well and then I started to see all the ways our Food is Harvested and the Inhumane treatment to make a buck. I have never felt better and it is a funny thing to say as I thought I was in great shape to start with.

I eat tons of fruit Tons of Veg as well Hemp Milk and Butters also veggie burgers.

    Peace and Love!

  • Thanks Canadian Beaver :)

  • Hemp Milk?

  • Part of the health appeal of hemp milk from the protein-rich hemp is its naturally occurring omega fatty acids as well as fiber, served chilled by the glass.Fresh Hemp Foods Ltd. is a Canadian manufacturer of Hemp Foods & Oils. Hemp Seed Butter All products are processed from live Hemp Seed grown without herbicides. PEACE and LOVE!

  • That sounds cool. But is that legal? I thought hemp was illegal. lol

  • Industrial grade hemp doesn't have THC in it. They use it for making textiles and such, and a lot of nutritional qualities have been discovered more recently. Its one of the most sustainable crops you could ever grow, as it grows literally like a weed LOL

  • Very cool. I'm going to see if I can't find some of the hemp stuff in my area. It sounds like it has a lot of uses.

  • Ohhhhh and its awesome for your skin apparently as well, its like the latest thing in natural skin care too :)

  • Yeah, hemp is like a superfood. I really want to use hemp oil for my omega 3's instead of flaxseed but its really expensive here, and as for hemp butter or help milk...well it is non existant LOL
