Hi. Your videos are awesome. I'm working with my Canon XL1 in parties, and editing in my Imac with FCP HD express. Usually I finish projects in 100 minutes length with 20 to 25 GB each. Good to make clear that FCP Express HD, do not includes Compressor. The thing is : If someone knows the proper settings in XL1 and FCP EXPRESS Pro HD to export MiniDV tapes and burn it in IDVD or BLUE RAY with Crystal clear results (or look alike) in a 52 inch plasma HD 1080, I will be very happy to read it.

the Xl1 is pretty good. As far as film look goes, id just get a camera with a lot of color controlls and you can make it look however you want. Look at the DVX-100 as well
You said you used the letterbox mask in FCP; why not just use the 16:9 effect in-camera? I thought the xl1s had to down-sample from the ccds to get 4:3 (using less pixels than it has available)?
yes there is a big difference. the xl1s is quite a bit better than the xl1, and the xl2 is quite a bit better than the xl1s. you get what you pay for. if you can afford the xl2, its worth it!
how did you get the widescreen effect on the camera it self on did you add a black matte in post to make it letterbox, did you use a special lense? what kind of editing software did you use?
The widescreen is just a letterbox mask i added in Final Cut 5. The lens is the standard 16x zoom lens that came with the camera. Thanks for your interest.
Nice video!! I have also de canon XL1s and i love de frame mode. I it a hard job because somethimes you see a litle bit a strobe effect in your shots. After 10 minutes watching you see these effect not anymore. It is a great camera, but I have some problems with my focus.

Can someone help me out. I cant afford to go to film school, so I want to just buy a camera and make my own films and just go DIY.
What cameras are affrodable and have good picture qulaity and give that 'film' look.
Cheers for any help.

A lot Different, I cant name it all but, yea i own a Xl1 and when i look at the xl2 demo it was quite a lot better
The Xl2 has the dark image control, you can contrl your frame more, it has a XLR adapter already attach, a 20x Lens while xl1 has 16x, etc. etc. et.c
