@smbmadman1 I see that you played it, yes it's a truly cheap attack. It was the first Mortal Kombat that I ever played, since then I realy enjoy the MK series, especially the 16bit. It's what the game represents a lot to me, great times playing it, so it deverse a place on the list, I simply enjoyed it more than Sonic 2.

Video game manufacturers are foolish for not redistributing these games again on XBLA or PSN. Imagine all the children of the adult gamers today, rediscovering these games and buying them. That's extra profit for what's already been made, and no production costs except for whatever it costs to get the games uploaded, re-encoded. They could even re-sell walk through manuals. Not to mention all us adult gamers obsessed with retro gaming again.

@hootyhaha You are right, I feel it, I keep stored the old games and consoles, and i know, it's already difficult to find some games, others have been lost or messed up, and your opinion seems a good way to preserve all these games. So we could remember the good times spent playing these fantastic games, no matter how much time passes, always they will be fantastic, the graphics are not everything.

Actually, some classics do get redistributed. Some on XBLA (like Tempest), some on PSN (like Lock and Chase), some on Wii's virtual console (like Phantasy Star). It just takes a while to find which system has what. Hell, MK2 is on PSN, though it's the arcade version. Also, I'm pretty sure the rest of these are available on Wii.

@MrJtorg Adventure Island was a clone of Wonder Boy, due to an unusual licensing agreement. Escape/Westone developed Wonder Boy as a coin-op arcade game to be published by Sega, who owned the character designs and names. Later Escape/Westone licensed the game to Hudson, who changed the names and altered the character designs, but kept all the same levels. Actually the whole history of the Wonder Boy series is pretty interesting, if you have a spare hour to go poking around on Wikipedia. ;)

MK2 and sonic were both available for the game gear in the US, which was basically a portable SMS.

The SMS had many, many great games, and was one of the few 8-bit machines that could handle conversions of 16-bit games successfully (Populous, Road Rash). There were a shedload of superb games released for the SMS here in the UK and Europe, many of which are sadly overlooked because they are not known to American gamers.
