One shouldn't assume Jewish settlers represent all Israelis, just as one should not assume Hamas represents the will of all Palestinians in Gaza. Secondly, the Palestinian authorities were not guaranteed full autonomy over their new state. Thirdly, the West Bank region would not be contiguous, divided by the remaining settlements, IDF garrisons and a highway through the middle from Jerusalem to the Dead Sea.
