  • Rusty Cooley is my inspiration but damn he makes me want to put the guitar down sometimes. It's like he's trying to kill my hopes and dreams.

  • @88Metallica :´(

  • I've always loved Rusty's choice of shorts.

  • Haha it looks like he's not wearing any pants at all!

    But such ripping shredding!

  • @carcosa Hes not wearing pants, hes so badass his dick is now a guitar. A 7 string at that!

  • @AnthonyParalikas you like the 80s john stockton shorts too?

  • i just had an ear orgasm

  • god im having an orgasm !!!!!

  • he makes that look so easy...(obviously it's not)

  • NAILED!!!

  • is it just me or do his guitars always look bigger than him?

  • According to a friend of mine who saw him at NAMM(Who is slightly over 6 feet), says Rusty Cooley is fairly short.

  • I can tell lol, but it doesnt really matter when you can shred like that.

  • Hah, that's flat-out obvious!

  • its just the way he's holding it and the camera position

  • He does, I started doing it after I saw this.

  • Hey it's me or here Rusty plays the clasic Eruption (Van Halen) tapping solo just with extremely fast and accurate picking?

  • NICE!!

  • Nice Legs...

  • licks that fast doesn't sound like music anymore.

  • sure it does. just really, really fast music. at least the stuff he does isnt just mindless shredding. some of the shred shit that some people do is just all fast crap.

  • uuh my brains can`t stand this...

  • This shit is awesome. I can officially pick as FAST as cooley.. just not as clean =[

A huge feat none the less!!

  • Good job! BTW.....Im a huge fan of your playing Cameron, and need to know how to get the "cooley prescision" when it comes to picking. How do ya do it?

  • An extremely large amount of practice every day lol. all i can say. I practice around 4 or 5 hours a day now since i have a job but before when i had nothing else to do id play for 8 or 9 hours at the least. Thanks man!

  • Awsome! I gess all I can do is play my ass off!

  • to play like these u do have to practice every day for 8 or 9 hour. i love shit like this but at the end od the day i would want to be like jimmy page, write and compose great music !

  • why wasnt u studying!?

  • I can do that - at about 1/10th the speed . . .

  • Rusty, LOSE the short-shorts man.

  • Hey guys, did you know that 99.9% of the people who write comments like "Too fast, sounds like shit", "Shred isn't music", "Do you really need to play that fast?", "Speed sucks", Etc. Are desperate fighting against metronome to get really fast with no success.

  • he is so good at this

  • can he play anything slower than 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 bpm?

  • What if you went to see a movie, sat down, the lights dimmed and ALL you saw on the screen (the whole 2.5 hrs) was a bunch of explosions, bullets flying, car chasing, jarring camera angles, loud film score...nothing else. No back story, no context, no character development, no plot. You would be bored and it would not make sense. It may look cool, but only in a cheesy and cheap way. Hopefully this metaphor gets the point across.

  • Under the umbrella of "MUSICALITY" exist many different facets of the guitar playing. Here are some examples: tempo, dynamic loudeness, pick dynamics, rhythmic inflections, consonant and dissonant harmony, lyricism, phrasing, song structure, playing "inside" harmony versus "outside", string bending....etc. If it dosent occur to you that Cooley is a one-dimensional guitar player, then you obviously cannot hear. He is using the same tempo, harmony, and canned tone the whole time. Get it?

  • we get it...but guess what we still watch it because its what we like. I realize you probably spent about 10 minutes on this paragraph trying to make yourself sound as smart as you possibly can, but you overlooked the fact that we dont give a shit. rusty is obviously doing SOMETHING right because hes famous and ur not.

  • You can like whatever you want. I understand that taste is subjective. That doesnt dispute the fact that he is a 1 dimensional player. My hyperbolic language was used to support my valid opinion. If you like what he does, enjoy it. I dont need nor want to be famous.

  • a) You're a dumbshit. There is no harmony here.

    b) Listen to The Grey Tide. There are several time changes, he spans the range between whole and 32nd notes, very legato to very staccato, and IMO his phrasing is genius. Stop watching his guitar instructional wank videos on youtube and listen to the album. And stop being a douchebag.

  • The harmony is implied through the scales he's playing, you retard. It's all a minor tonality...in keeping with the whole ONE DIMENSIONAL THEME that defines his guitar playing.

please stop talking out your ass. thanks.

  • There's a lot of pentatonic major and lydian in there. I don't think there is much of an implied harmony here at all. And once again, listen to Outworld. His solo album is trash, but Outworld is 4.5/5 easily.

  • Fair enough. I'll see about Outworld. It is possible that he isn't completely fully represented in a 1 minute clip.

  • And while jason was and is an amazing musician somehow I doubt he could sweep faster than rusty, at least I've never heard anything he composed played faster than rusty. Though speed doesn't necessarily correlate to musicality (though it does show mastery of an instrument) I don't know how people can make rediculous claims when its clear how fast rusty is the only people I've heard at his level are shawn lane and francesco fareri.

  • Speed does not show mastery of an instrument. Speed shows mastery of "Speed". There is more to the instrument (being guitar) than just playing fast.

  • yes, in one way you are right. Rusty can play very fast, therefore, this shows some kind of mastering of his instrument. yes, there is much more than speed to the instrument. i dont say you dont think that, but Rusty isnt just good at speed. his album prooves it.

  • And for the record Shawn is also one of my favourite guitarists so shut the fuck up if you're going to bring that up.

  • Whats not musical about Rusty's playing? Have you listened to his band "Outworld?" It seems that when a player has accomplished something in metal that other players in other genres don't/can't do that makes the player unmusical and mindless. Anyone who says things like that are fucking retarded.

  • shawn lane can kick rusty ass very easy ! no one can beat shawn in speed !

  • could have beaten, hes dead u dumbass

  • here's a tip for all you shred-fiends: go check out Shawn Lane. He has everything you like about Mr. Cooley, plus FEEL and MUSICALITY.

  • jason becker puts more feel and emotion in his music! and he plays like a mother fuker!

    JASON IS THE FASTEST SWEEPER!

  • He's not even playing a SONG for christ's sake!

  • what all you dumb shredders dont understand is this: he is only playing in one key the whole time, using fast note rhythms, with the same pick dynamics. Yes, his right hand is quick and accurate....big deal. So he sat around in his bedroom (obviously) and repeated the same patterns until his muscle memory developed...much the same as any chimp could given enough time.

  • He's perfect... The best living guitarist I think, and maybe the best ever.

  • TECHNICALLY SPEAKING!

  • I'm pretty sure anyone who says Rusty sucks doesn't understand anything he's doing because he's going too fast, and anyone who says he can only play fast with delay doesn't realize that delay just sounds cooler.

  • jesus. he is without question the fastest guitarist who ever lived. he's like our generation's yngwie.

  • I know Rusty and have seen him play live. I can personally say that he can play that fast even without delay. And if you were to actually LISTEN to what he's doing, you'll see that it isn't the same Paul Gilbert/Vinnie Moore licks everyone else did back in 1987(nothing against those guys..They are definitly pioneers). Therefore, Rusty's playing is very interesting.

  • it makes me wanna play even more

  • OMFG, When I see shreding like this it makes me not even wanna try to play guitar anymore!

  • watch out for pick shrapnel!=0

  • laquelga666 your a filthy pumped cunt. How about you go clean that right hand and pussy while youre at it.

  • I don't like his music alot but that's incredible.

  • PERFECTION!!!

  • idk i used to dig this stuff but now im all for feel, but when i play fast i go like yngwie speed i just do it really clean. idk for some reason stuff this fast really really bores me now and they never seem to try to make music. o well this guy did master what he does.

  • wow what can ya say.... fight or flee man.... fight or flee... incredible. this can almost make ya think about takin up like basketweaving or something hehe :)

  • Rusty Cooley is no joke! Aaron @ Sick Licks gives it two thumbs up.

  • lacuelga666 watch his other videos then dude. you will see that his technique is good.

  • no i am not joking...take out the delay he is using and we'll see the real thing.

  • mmm dirty technique dude....go back and clean that right hand picking..be autocritical

  • lacuelga666...I hope for your sake you are joking.

  • ya its a Diamond, i've been trying to find one, have they come out with it yet?

  • I love the sound of the licks he starts to play at 0:24.

BTW what amp is that, Diamond?

  • ok time to kill myself now, bye!

  • wow, really clean and fast... do you use a whammy or ips effect?

  • best guitarist in the world !!!!

    FACT!!!

  • ahh....i suck

  • i hates if he stretches his fingers like that ;) but the sound is cool

  • awesome
