  • The stronger and/or more fortunate should help the weaker and/or less fortunate

Hard lessons coming your way when he is not able to pay your mortgage, make gas cheap, fix the economy, convince muslims to not hate jews etc etc.

  • BEAUTIFULL SONG!!

  • If it weren't for my mom and a few friends I would be living on the streets. I have never in my life done drugs. I have 2 jobs and do several side jobs, but it still isn't enough to support myself on my own. This whole economy is screwed up. Even though I have been low on cash, I have helped out when I can. Hopefully, Obama can turn things around for EVERYONE!!!

  • i pray for you snaffluer. must be relly hard for you.

  • you better hope he does, and we all better hope he does....we think he's the saving grace for us but no one knows for sure....he can say all he wants but he's gotta act.

  • LOL))

  • oh, and GO STEELERS

  • amazing song. quite bad sound though.

  • beautiful song... It's full of emotions

  • Possibly the most detestable record ever made.

  • as I said Im not anti anoyone but the rich aint rich without the poor. U have no idea of poverty. SOunds to me u r rich also otherwise u wouldnt take offense to my harmless comment.

  • The rich? who are they to you, I dont know how you define them. but typically. succesful people are educated, expererienced and focused on thier careers. Theyre success paves the way for others to also be successful. When a ceo caused the stock price of a company to rise from 15 bucks to 35 bucks per share and there are say, 25 million shares outstanding, well you do the math and tell me if the CEO has made a lot of people a alot of money... Ever get a job from a poor person? socialists...

  • And to u guys defending the rich who give money its mostly tax deductible anyway. And is usualy company money not personal. Im not anti rich just believe it brings responibility to help others.

  • You never got a job from a poor man.

  • why cant we all just be treated the same rich selfish people need to start treating people the way they want to be treated! it pisses me off how self sentered people can be! but i love this song!

  • Why should a violent crack addict be treated with the same respect as Joe Lunchpail the responsible citizen? Equality does not bring happiness, but rather freedom. Hell, I want to be treated like Leonardo DiCaprio, but I didn't earn his reputation so why should I be treated the same?

  • Back in the 6th grade, our entire class sung this song for our graduation show. It's hard to believe 19 years have passed since then. Thanks for posting. It brings back memories.

  • my school is singing this in our spring concert

  • I'm sick of all these jealous pple hating americans. They have given more aid to poor countries than any other and although some may argue that there is usually something in it for them, I say so what? People criticize America when it intervenes in other countries affairs and criticize them when they don't.

  • Not true, Western European nations have done much more to developing nations. UK, Ireland,Sweden. Remember the love of $, is the root of all evil. Born n raised in the Midwest. I totally see the strata of the rich, who dont care about those who are suffer homeless. Why are we letting homelessness, Darfur happen, when we have high military spending, and we spend it all in Iraq. May the Lord, have mercy today, on this wicked world, pray 4 Obama, i hope change will come at last.

  • That's unfair. Firstly, it is not the responsibility of the government to mother us. These men aren't homeless because of a lack of jobs, this I assure you. Also, the rich provide the world with millions of jobs. Pray for Obama . . . I hope he does well, but can we PLEASE stop talking about him as if he were the second coming of Christ? Holy crap, the guy hasn't done jack in his entire career yet people en masse are lining up to perform fellatio on him.

  • Agreed

  • You did Your Homework, i understand what you mean being an American Born in the Heartland of Sioux Falls. My parents went to college after getting a U.N scholarship. My parents are east african. I am grateful, remember there is bad/good in everything. Also i thank the Reagan administration that was giving us residency, when the world was a big BloodBath in the 80s, due, communism etc. Let us make American better than it has ever been.Change to make it better than before.

  • Yes Western Europeans donate the most but it is insignificant compared to the gvt aid provided by the USA. Trust me, if any other country had the same kind of power as the USA, they'd do a hell of a lot worse. Now stop hating on the USA.

  • No oil in Darfur so let them die. Oil in Kuwait shit we better go help. If the same amount of American or European kids died of malaria each year then it would have a cure by now. Americans love to say they free people but most of the shit in the world now was caused by former American policies now I will stop commenting Im sick of one eyed zealots.

  • hi widwati, don't stop commenting, there are a lot of people who agree. I spent 5 years in the

USA and can count the number of Americans who are truly unbiased and know what,s going on on my fingers. Maybe because I was in the Midwest, not exactly a hotbed of civilisation. Problem though is, people are selfish whereever you go!

  • What are you? You sound like a socialist/communist to me. I come from a very poor background, but I don't expect the rich to care about me.

  • ya blame the us.. its easy to not take the blame, you ignorant bastard.. we are all selfish.. what have u done?

  • what's with people placing political views on you tube???? its a video site if you want to express your political views then do it on a "express your political views" site!! plus 95% of homeless are only in there position because of the way the lived before they was homeless or from the army because the cant adjust to civilian life, not because its a government plot to steal our money for war!!!

  • anubisoftheflesh wrote: "what's with people placing political views on you tube????"

YouTube is a place to express your views, regardless of what kind of view that might be. That's the way of the world and that is the way of people in this world. Haven't you noticed? People have "views" on EVERYTHING, including Phil Collins in his very socially political songs, including this one on homelessness.

On YouTube we can give thumbs up, thumbs down or ignore it. Another great thing about America.

  • music is dead nowadays.....

  • on se jännä tämä collins..

  • Collins-darra!

  • este man es un CRACK... Con un microfono es DIOS..

  • Very sad..!! we need a change, respect each other, that's the key for a better future. No matter where are you frome or your color is..."LOVE" is the powerfull word.

  • How is that going to end homelessness without exacerbating the problem?

  • you know I made this song but he coppied it from me... seriously

  • The First concert I ever went to I was 2 and it was Phil Collins in Las vegas!

  • gmdave -- America self absorbed? Your name suggests you may be british -- if you are european at of any location, feel free to thank an American for our blood in 2 world wars. Self absorbed? -- we are the beacon of freedom in the entire world, the most productive people on the planet, and we export a better way of life to the rest of the world. WE led the way. We as a country give more to world aid than anyone else. take your comment about self absorption and stick it up your pompous ass.

  • lol you are proud of something that you didnt contribute anything to? did u fight in WWII? i dont think so.

you have to see the other side maybe some countries dont want this way of life?

most productive? yeah when it comes to killing people building weapons and wars

  • We as a nation ended the two bloodiest conflicts in the history of the world. Yeah, I see other nations don't want to live free, productive lives, their citizens just want to eat and fertilize the ground then call on the good old U.S. of A. to defend them when the Huns come knocking, all the while looking down their noses at us. It's lazy and self-righteous--sort of like your last statement.

  • and you as a nation started how many bloody conflicts? vietnam, irak, afghanistan, slavery, war against native americans.

the usa is in no way better than any other country in the world. you had your dark times too and still have. number 1 air pullotion in the world. its the usa who didnt want to sign kyoto. and uhm yes veto against an uno intervention in isreal and gaza ftw.

and whose international banks went bankrot to start a large crisis? you know, you shouldnt be that proud of your country

  • I wasn't aware that we started the fighting in the Middle East and were the first ones to trade slaves. No, China and India have way worse air pollution. Kyoto would have vastly limited and hurt our economy. Vietnam was started by FRANCE. Dear Lord, why am I even talking to you? It's painfully obvious that you hate America yet have no logical or factual reasoning behind it. In the words of a political poster I love: "YOU shut the fuck up. WE'LL protect civilization."

  • American knob jockeys!!! They think poverty is not being able to get to their local McDs. Idiots. The world does not begin and stop with America. Belive it or not, there are other countries out there. As if America were not self absrbed enough they had 8 years of that certifiable lunatic Bush!!

  • haha you got owned by guins99 xD

  • I never really liked Phil Collin's music...

    until this moment.

  • its a beautiful tune for sure. Somewhat paints a one sided picture of homelessness. Leaves out the drugs / violence / mental illness parts in an effort to focus on the human suffering angle. Homeless people also threaten and sometimes kill each other and others... can be quite unerving dealing with them if you are alone walking down a city street at night. But -- sure, it is definitely a great tune.

  • guins99: Correct, there is a real reason people are homeless! I did everything possible for the homeless where I lived & I ended up being manipulated, taken advantage of, lied about, house robbed, car stolen twice, cops coming to search my house since some of the homeless criminals had used my name & address & on & on & on, plus threats, harassment & intimidation by both homeless & shelter workers. I learned the hard way! I still support homeless shelters, but don't "help" individuals any more.

  • Dear God! Well, if it means anything, I appreciate your work. You have a good heart, my friend.

  • Well said. People don't like to accept their failures as their own fault. After all, it's so much easier to blame something else that they have no control over, such as a "system."

  • ehhhh Verry good nice song...nice...

  • If people who can't afford children would stop making them we could make a big impact on poverty. We have to have a license to drive but,we anyone to reproduce.

  • Very good song

  • Heavy!!! I dont know what i´m saying but is fast unbeliably .. Millions of People are hugnary and have no home ...

If I had money I would help where I could

    Very Good , Phil ...

    Very Good!!

  • A real story!Great song!

  • so greaaaaaaaaaaaaat

  • Grazie molto bella e grandi ricordi dietro questa musica

  • Theres poor everywhere. While some sit in luxury with more money then they can ever spend. Imagine if the 500 richest people in the world decided enough was enough and chose to act. Poverty can be ended.

  • you sound like a communist..lots of rich ppl donate to charities.. bill gates gives millions!

  • Im not a communist and Im actually against communism. I know the work Bill Gates does and commend him on that and the others who do. My point was there are many mega rich who do nothing. And it will take more than millions.

  • By being rich they've given thousands of people jobs.

  • And why do they need to have 50 or 60 billion? I saw an interview with Ted Turner once he said its impossible for him to spend more than 2 million personally in a year thats including the best hotels etc. If thats the case whats wrong with giving some towasrd alleviating poverty? Rememebr europe was once poor and now they are not so poor they are not fighting like they used to. Poverty causes men to turn against their brothers. Less poverty less conflicts. But then less market for weapons right?

  • Let me get this straight: his reward for success is to have all of his money, or at least the amount that he "doesn't need" taken away from him? Where's the incentive to earn? Why do you think the government would be more responsible with it? Also, it's his money, he earned it, so leave it alone. If he wants to donate some of it, let him of his own accord. Once again, he being rich creates thousands of jobs. Who do you think he is? Scrooge McDuck? He doesn't just swim around in his money.

  • I didnt say anything about taking anyones money. I didnt say anything about governments. I said those with more than they need can do much more good thats all I said so take u pro usa shit ans stick it. Most americans cant even name a country starting with U. Check it out on here if u dont believe. Am not anti anyone but try being hungry for real not just hungry a day try a week. then eat one meal then go another week. Imagine that is your life. And real poor dont make themselves poor.

  • No, but that's what you're insinuating. Is it not enough that America gives more to charity than any other nation in the world? I'm not anti-Europe myself, I'm just anti-ignorant America bashing, irrational emotional reactions, and bad grammar (seriously, I can barely comprehend what you're writing). Real poor don't make themselves poor? That statement makes about as much sense as a hippo doing the Charleston. So no one is responsible for their own failures? Right.

  • No, thats how your thinking interprets it. Im not America bashing just ignorant American bashing all u keep on about is Bill Gates I didnt say anything against him. Also Im not European and if u think the real poor are poor from their own making go to the Congo or Gaza without a credit card and see how long you last. And for the record the grammar is just for speed purposes and others I correspond with have no problem with it even poor people from the Philipines and Africa.

  • Your writing suggests it. I said nothing about Bill Gates. I'm also not talking about the world, I'm talking about the United States. I didn't say you were European. Stop reiterating everything I've already said about the world as my original point is: you think America has poor people? That's laughable, look at other nations, now THEY know what poverty is like.

  • Genrally, no the living standrads are not better in america then in those countries i listed. The middle class, the avrage folks get less paied then the avrage in example norway or sweden. Also the goverment shall act as a mother, cause everyone shall have the abilitie to get back up on thier feet again. If you give those people a job, or something alike the poverty would decrease and the state would earn money.

  • but u cant really take sweden or norway was an example, over there the pirces are much higher than in other countries. they dont have a higher standard. For a good comarison u have to consider the prices and the income.

e.g. in norway a killo of butter costs 100.000$ and the averarge income is 100.000 $

in another country a killo of butter costs 4 cents and the average income is 5$ --> who'll have the higher living-standarts then? ;)

  • The price is high cause of the high tax. The tax goes to free medical treatment, school e.t.c , but also they get a higher pay check. The fact that the poverty in procentage to amercia is lower , and the fact that the procentage of the avrage got more money over to buy themself a treat makes it higher living standards. If you se it generalize it, we save much money and make much money, in order to buy the " expensive" as you say it is.

  • ahhh du ar fra der :D

okay, what can I say then, im german and I think someone from up there might be closer to that issue ;-) okay I reteat :-)

but it was my personal impression, that everything is much more expensive, but the norwegian people can afford as much as we can, due to their higher paycheck...

  • widiwati: You have made many good points here. I would suggest ignoring the negative and keep posting positive, since YouTube and the world needs more people like YOU!

It's pointless to try to discuss some things with people who are only looking to pick a fight. It's a total waste of time since they don't even read the entire statement, but react to one or two words. They can't comprehend a paragraph, apparently.

I enjoy reading your comments and hope you keep up the good work! God Bless...

  • widiwati, I read this comment by stinkbuttdog who said you had written:

"Remember, your enemy also has a mother and a wife...", why does this resonate within me? Very profound words in such a lackluster time."

Wonderful words. I will have to remember them. Thank you for being here.

  • You people keep on mentioning the "poverty" in the US but really you know nothing about it. "Poverty" in the US is middle-class for a number of the truly impoverished nations. Don't pretend that Europe is the pinnacle of civilization, they too have a vast number of problems still, war in Eastern Europe still one of them.

  • One of the greatest artist's in history,

Rare is vocal talent this good seen in the charts and yet only around 8 million views on youtube - so many have yet to explore real music. Top Quality

  • beautiful song...

  • Best!

  • great song

  • If you're starving in the United States, you either have a mental disorder or are an idiot.

  • Silly me and here I was thinking it was mandatory to have a mental defect in the U.S., it's called patriotism.

  • your ignorance are very great. I really hope you didn't meen that

  • What do you think?

  • diffrent factors, simply can't pay the hospital bill, cause of the health system. Might been screwed by the goverment or someone else. Drug problems, social problems. doesn't mean they are idiots or morons, might just not had luck. or got fucked by the system

  • Drug problems: an idiot. Social problems: Commonly an idiot. You think you're starving in the United States? Try going to the Phillipines, try going to Mexico, to Africa--there they know REAL hunger. It's impossible to starve in the United States, note that I didn't say homeless.

  • But the money the goverment makes, and the riches of the countrie. dosen't go to the people it goes to the military or other things. The poverty in america is greater then in brittan and sweden norway denmark france spain, e.t.c. Who come? your counrty got alot more moeny

  • . . . But why should tax dollars go to people who didn't earn it? Why is it the responsibility of the government to mother us? Keep in mind, the standard of living in those countries you listed are lower than that of America's. Also, I think it's selfish of them to not maintain a strong military because when any of those countries get attacked, who's going to bail them out? America, that's who. Meanwhile, they look down their noses at us for desiring the means to defend ourselves.

  • TytusTolshem wrote: "Meanwhile, they look down their noses at us for desiring the means to defend ourselves."

Others hate us because we don't just "defend ourselves," we are too often the aggressors, and give aid to other foreign aggressors. We are Roman Centurians as far as the rest of the world is concerned; we are arrogant to the extreme.

How many times have you heard Americans say "speak English" or "mow my lawn & go back where you came from?" That's what the rest of the world disklikes.

  • You're right, we don't just defend ourselves, we defend our FRIENDS as well. We're smart enough as a nation to know that if we don't put out the fires of the world, none of you other sheep will lift a finger. It must be hard for them to even see America when they're sitting so high up in their towers. I didn't realize it was so outrageous to ask people living within our borders to learn THE PRIMARY LANGUAGE OF THE LAST THREE HUNDRED YEARS.

    Also, hooray Hollywood stereotypes?

  • In the words of Colin Powell: "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return."

Roman Centurions? Only on the internet would you read someone saying something that stupid. Is it too much for me to ask for you to defend your position?

  • TytusTolshem: I won't "defend" a position, since I agree with much of what you said. The difference is "arrogance" which is a problem any way you look at it. People seem to be one of two things, ignorant or arrogant. I would like to fall somewhere in the middle, but I probably don't. I am lucky to be an American citizen, especially after living in foreign countries that have few rights & privileges we take for granted. That doesn't mean I agree with everything America does. Things have 2 sides.

  • amen...

  • I meant every word. Americans complaining that they're starving? That, if anything, shows how spoiled we are as a society. Try living in Africa, they know what it means to starve. There's so much food here in the states that starvation is just about an impossibility.

  • tell it like it is Tytus.

  • *fist tap*

  • we have the most annoying bums near my office. they curse you out if you don't give them money...

  • Like they don't have homelessness in the U.K. or Europe or Japan or Australia. Mr Superior Collins, what are YOU doing about the situation?

  • . . . Are you serious? Of course they don't have homelessness, because America, IE the Whore of Babylon, is the only country in the world to have this sort of heartache. In other countries, they simply make them into Soylent Green. We can learn a lot from the Europeans (Particularly the French) and the Japanese on this subject.

  • But not as much as in america.

  • sooo pretty! I can't stop listening :)

  • Es una magnifica canción y la letra es grandiosa, Felicidades Phil Collins.

  • P R I D E

  • Phil Collins is the shit and I am a black man saying this from Georgia. My mother played this music. We call this blue eyed soul. Meaning a white man who sounds soulful like black soul artists for young ones in the music game. I am 34. Peace and hair grease lol.

  • love the little beat of this song ! so many memories :D

  • These are the neighborhoods that our great politicians pass through on their way to work everyday. It really pisses me off that so much money is being wasted in this bailout, when it should be spent on everyday people.

  • I'm not trying to attack you or anything, but is that really a justifiable statement? If the upper-level businesses fail, it will ultimately harm, not help the "everyday people", and while I don't completely agree with the bailouts that are going on, I think that something has to happen.

  • è O Melhor !!!!

  • My God, I love this song. Excellent way to go Phil Collins. A plus
