The program I used for the main video is called "Maya" by a company called autodesk. It costs over £3,000.
Alternatively you could try "Blender" or "Truespace". Both are free and contain everything needed to make this video. Search for their names in google.
The title sequence and composition were done in Adobe After Effects. (Don't know of a free alternative, sorry). Hope this helps :)
nice animation and bgs ect and very smooth :d but i agree with everyone wen u should hvae used other voices :P somthing like i dunno amr yor somthin? somthing from cod or medal of honour lolo
Hi, If you read earlier comments, it was made as a test. I just wanted to see how feasable it was to do a stickman animation in 3d, as at the time (2007) they were all 2d.
I did it in a couple of hours at a friends house, the first time I used maya (I was actually testing the software out & thought I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone).
'The kid' asked if he could be involved, but wasn't there on the day, so at the last minute I added his voice. The version on my website has no vocals.
wow that was so fucking retarded. that dumb ass unproportional stick man is making such gay sound effects. he is fighting nothing and he is still losing...lol
no seriously though there was no content. get pivot animator instead. it has it's limitations too but i think it is better than this fantastic program
The episodes get bigger as they go, part 3 is more like to the 2d ones you love so much.
Have been busy working on a film & other projects, so not had time to put finishing touches to part 2 or 3.
Stickman's in proportion to a human. Unlike 2d stickmen, it has shoulders, etc, so looks wrong. Based on real skeleton.. Had to do this way, as planned to animate proper episodes with mocap footage of myself. I've been studying martial arts for 24 years & am competant with most forms of weaponry.
No, it was the full version of Maya 8.5. I was using blender at the time and a friend said I should try Maya. I went to his studio, made this video and have been using Maya ever since. I have never used the foundation version of Maya, but as far as I know, everything in this video can be done with it. Hope that helps :)
Glad you like the video. Sorry to keep you waiting for the second one. I have had hardware problems and have been without a machine for a while. Have just got a new 8core Xeon rig, so it won't be long now. Sorry again.
Trying to look big, by making dumb comments, doesn't help. Check the date, the video is a year old, also read the comments (there is already a version without the vocals - uploaded a year ago). It was made in a couple of hours (It was never meant to be a state of the art vfx sequence. It was made as a test, the first time I used maya). Maybe you should get an education - learn to read (it will help you in the long run - honest). BTW - upload some good videos before insulting others.
Hi, thanks. I am planning on release part 2 on Saturday 2nd August 2008.
I might release part 3 at the same time, but not decided yet.
Both videos just need a little tweaking before release, its just I have been so busy with tv commercials, music videos, etc... over the last year I haven't had much time to sort out my personal projects.
I am planning on doing tutorials on my website (most likely in the forums, not sure yet). The problem is, because I do so many different types of CGI, photography and film work, I don't get much time to spend putting tutorials together (keep an eye on my forums).
Hi, I used After Effects for the intro/title sequence and Maya 8 Unlimited for the main video. Unfortunately neither package is as easy to use as pivot. If you want to get into 3D, the easiest route is one of the earlier versions of Truespace (version 3 is free, so possibly the best place to start).
I got to test Maya for a few hours recently and this animation is the result. I normally use Truespace 5.2 (I don't like the newer versions) and I also use Blender (open source and it is as good as Maya for most things, imo, but it is hard to learn).
Do you know any good websites with techniques for modeling people in TrueSpace(i mean beyond Facial Animator and Ik and Bones), because I can do everything but that, and i would like to learn to make people from scratch
I have tried posting a link, but youtube wont let me :(
I have put the link on my forums go to m4gnet-co-uk (replace '-' with '.') click on Suggestions on the front page and there is a topic called 'Ubermuffins Truespace request' I have put the link there. Does anyone know how to post a link here?
Glad you liked it, as for the voice, no it is not me it's my little boy. The vocals were a bit last minute, plus void at swoj let me know the grunts were noticably bad, so I released another version, without them (check my profile) and will work them out properly for next one.
3d stickman animation - Sticks: The Art Of The Chopstick.
First Part in a planned series of 3d stickman animations.
The second part (planned for late august 2007 release) is in production. After the release of the 2nd video, further, 'Sticks' movies will only be made if people want more.
What is this software called?
javi20123 4 months ago
@javi20123
I used the version of autodesk Maya that came out in 2007. I think it was version 8 or 8.5. I also used Adobe After Effects for the title clips.

to your first comment
yeah i saw in a pc magazine that autodesk 2011 was like 10000 bucks or something like that. why that price for a animation program?
