but may I suggest something? your background painting always distracts from your pretty hair, I think a neutral background would highlight your hairstyles better (e.g. black would make your red hair look divine I think)
@19myself91 I used to use a neutral background but this painting is by my Grandfather and I love featuring it in my videos. It's an 'homage' thing. If I were making these videos professionally, I might be concerned about the distraction but since these are kind of my personal teaching project, it will continue to be my background. :) Hope you understand...
Im such a huge fan of your page! I was thinking, is there any way you could do a mad scientist hairstyle? Like, maybe Dr. Strangelove? I think it could be possible using waves :)
I don't dress in reto style but I do do my hair that way. I was a stylist for 12yrs and learned a ton from the older stylists and there older clients. Its so much fun and I get so many complements!! My hair is sholder length, layered and solid bleach blonde. So with that being said I tend to do a lot of Marilyn styles. But I do love a fingerwave!! I do them for parties :) Very, Very pretty and stylish look!
@aprilck2 yes I agree. I noticed that the waves in the photo seemed more 'spaced' than most period films so this was just a shot in the dark. The bottom wave should have been placed closer to the second one so as to be more defined though for sure...
New subscriber here. I just watched one of my favorite period films - Delovely with Kevin Kline/Ashley Judd. Since your hair is the perfect length for the hairstyles in the early part of the movie (1920s and 1930s) any chance of your doing a style similar to what Linda had when she first met and married Cole Porter in the film?
i have seen photos of finger waves that go all 'round the head and i would love to see you try your own version of that. i've always wondered how they lay the waves all the way around. perhaps you'd need to do it on someone else's head though.
@loanaea Yes that is a goal of mine...to master that type of wave. But alas, I may need to buy a doll head. I would need just the right hair cut on my model etc. :)
Okay Ashley, your hair might be a tad to short yet for my request, but I would love to see a Lana Turner inspired hair tut ( a la "The Postman Always Rings Twice) If your interested, I have a picture to show ya! : )
Awesome job on this hairstyle. I'm definitely going to get some clips and try this one out. As my hair is naturally curly, I usually wind up leaving clips/rollers in for only a short while while to do some of the styles that require waves.
You never cease to amaze me by continuing to replicate fabulous hairstyles with accuracy and authenticity! In addition, I can't get over how flattering that bob style is on you. Even when it's bone straight, it gives you a Clara Bow vibe :) Have you ever considered opening up your own vintage hairstyling salon or doing peoples' hair professionally?
@10teeleaf I think these are 3 inch.. Do you mean w/ a hand-held dryer? No, probably not. It would be tiring and would take a long while to do so. You can use a hooded dryer, like I did.
I love finger waves, but alas I have long hair! But that's alright, I still like watching the tutorials (of course) because maybe one day I'll cut my hair. :)
I love your channel I am o african american descent and i love vintage fashion and hair. Do you know of any sites that have pictures of am woman hairstyles from the 20-50's.Thank you
@HairMaven81 Hi! I saw your comment and I thought I could suggest a great channel for you. Her channel name is curlychronicles She styles with natural and retro looks. Hope this helps and have an awesome day!
@mankymcmank oH! HAHA...That was supposed to be a period. Yes these styles work beautifully on black hair that has been straightened or fingerwaves work w/ curl. :)
Thanks so much for doing this! I requested Gilda Besse along with Shanghai Lily a long time ago. It's kind of hard to style my hair like this now because it has grown but I'll try it anyway. : )
I love this!!! All though I don't have short hair, I am going to experiment and try it on my long hair. But I was wondering, how long in total did it take you to do this?
@smileyroxyfox Try under pinning your hair and pinning the waves in place. :) This took about 20 minutes to set, several hours to dry and only about 10 minutes to style. :)
lovely as always!

If you put your waves closer together when they are wet you will have a better wave pattern in the finnished style :)

@LisaFreemontStreet D'oh! Thank you very much <3 It's straight at the moment, so I'm going to give a rollerset a go... fingers crossed!

Fantastic result combining rollers and clips, I am very surprised to see they work so well together. The result maybe softer but very nice indeed.

Was wondering what inch wave clamps did you use?
also do you think its possible to do a wet+product to clamps+rollers than blowdry? instead of leaving it to dry naturally?
