Neil Younig , Sooo many years of great music, songs, stories, tours - Live Rust, CSNY.. will remain 4 eva in my heart as phenomenal rock band with some of best harmonies and vocals heard in a group.. How's dat
this IS my teen years... raw, insane, moody... love this album like the back of my hand... had the leasure of meeting this man twice to thank him for his life's journey tales...
Great live album. Raw and powerful. As gusty as cracking the throttle open on your bike out on the big highway. Neil as motor-vater. You can make it happen.
If Neil really thinks this is his worst, man the rest are masterpieces. I love this album,it's as real as it gets. Not to mention time fades away was the first time I saw Neil live.
It's been up for hours and hours and hours...I hadn't heard that these three albums were called the "Ditch Trilogy" before, but I always have loved the raw sound. When a lyric by Neil pops into my head, alot of times it's from one of these albums. "L.A.", "Walk On", "World On A String" and on and on. It just feels like there's alot of heart behind his songs from this time.
Im lucky enough to have two copies of this album and Im happy to say that I was smart enough to keep my turntable from back in the day later upgraded to a newer table in short if u grew up in the 60s & 70s like I did and were into music you probably have a great record collection why would u get rid of your T table for those of u looking for this album try antique stores they often sell records and record stores that sell nothing but old records, love the cover for this album peace....
This tune along with others on the album are gems .The tour was not apparently a good one according to all recorded sources .It seems the band wanted more money re Neil Youngs new found fame etc etc {Harvest}. I think he has,nt released this as a punishment to the money grabbing band members and others who won,t get royalties .But then i ,m probably suffering from some delusion like most of us.
Neil has promised a "Time Fades Away 2" in the next volume of Archives. I cannot see how that could be any better than this. Far and away Neil's most personal album, this fully reflects how Neil was dealing with sudden stardom and the death of Danny Whitten, whom this is written about.
I respect your opinions, but I 'm not sure that this song is about Danny Whitten's death. TTN is obviously about the deaths of Danny and Bruce Berry, not sure about Last Dance. You're spot on about this being Neil's most personal album imho. I love TFA and hope that it's soon released on CD.
Thanks to youtube and whoever posted this. I wore the fuck out of my cassette and this is all i have left. I love Time Fades Away. Favorite Neil recording to get fucked up to.
@edwardlepine Bro' for me -nearly - the whole vinyl was awesome...I believe?[it's been a long time ]Side 2 only had X3 tracks...and they were all 'ace']!!!!Neil was always (& maybe still is..dunno :ain't seen him live nor heard any recordingd 4 a long time!)at his BEST when the music was ALL RAW :like w. Danny Whitten...then (in Lovin' memory of him!)on Tonite's the Nite,'ZUMA'...the list goes on for ever hey what?!xXxCreashonrebel
This is gold. I am an Aussie but in the 70's, I was a "world child". Too much ganja, the Doctor said back then. I have this album on vinyl. God bless America and the Canadian Territory.
Thanks - I always assumed it was but lately listening to it on an iPod I realised how many voices there were on it. Wish there was footage of this great song.
No is Neil singing all the song with nash as back up.
Actually I was at the San Diego concert and Crosby didn't make it because of ankle injury but anyways he was in the song credits, really all is true, it was in march 1973.
Thanks Gus, great to be in contact with someone who was at these shows. There's just nothing like this happening any more - the drama, the risk taking. An album like this just wouldn't be released by a major company these days.
OMG! Thanks for posting this. I thought I was the only one who heard this in his head over & over.
This is what it was really like when the 60's crashed and burned. People get all pretentious about TONIGHT's THE NIGHT. But THIS is what it was all about. Neil will never release this because it's too "real".
What a great song to see done live! I saw him back in the 70's doing this and many others from the "Time Fades Away" album. By the time I saw this concert, I was already a huge fan, having been captivated by "Harvest". What a musical influence he's been on me for a big part of my life. Listening to this again, sure brings back some memories!
Neil Young did the best albums of the seventies. I was always a Beatles fan and McCartney fan with Wings. But after listening to the Neil Young albums like Time Fades Away, Zuma, On The Beach, Tonights the Night and Rust Never Sleeps, I have discovered the Neil was way ahead of McCartney for songwriting in the seventies.
This is in my top 10 all-time Neil "rockers." Not so well known either. The performance sounds on the verge of a riot. Neil is so intense and the whole "No, no, no" sequence is brilliant. He should bring this one back to his live shows but I bet it reminds him of a stressful time in his life (1972-73).
NO, NO, NO!!!!

When fans demanded Heart of Gold, Neil would answer with an extended jam of this song. For that, he is a legend.
