  • @misstinwhistle Well it easier to perform ornamentations on the tin whistle in my own opinion though anything you can do on the tin whistle is possible on the low whistle. This video is a good few years old at this stage and I've since improved on things, but the positioning and spread of the fingers does complicate matters.

I'd suggest checking out this guys, he's very good and you'll see lots of ornamentation in his performance:

    Keith

  • Great job!

There's no need for improvement here.

  • what a relief! There are many videos of rough renditions of folk music, thankfully this is not one! Good Job, very inspiring!

  • where can i purchase this whistle or the high one?? by the way AMAZING! bravo!

  • Great!

  • Beautifully played! I love the sound of a low whistle. I'm hoping to get a low D whistle myself. I currently play a standard D whistle.

And don't worry about any mistakes; this is a tough song to master. I haven't completely perfected it yet either. :)

  • aiii laiiike!

  • Could you try a jig timed set instead of a hornpipe timed set?

  • liar. there ARE no errors man.

this is really really...(i could go on with the reallys but i wont) good!

  • i like this version ^^

  • good job, this sounds like a slow hornpipe, it's good try your hand at a treble jig if you haven't already, you may be even better :)

  • Any tips on whistle buying?

  • Very well played!

Mine Low D is coming from EUA...its an Overton...

    Congratulations!

  • I didnt know there are tuneable Chieftain Low Whistles óÒ I bought a non-tuneable because I thought there are no tuneable lows of Chieftain (Im Chieftain-addicted so... XD)

  • Beautifully played - great tune - haven't heard this for many years, very knostalgic - Dad playing and step-dancer sis dancing the hornpipe in the kitchen - and the rest of us just jigging around. It wasn't "cool" then-but we had a ball anyhow. Thanks, a chara, for the music - it reigns xxx

  • is there a way you could give me sheet music in the treble clef? i play tenor sax and i wanna learn this, my friend loves the song, "The Great Kodo" by oxhorn, and the song is based on this tune, plz reply as it alerts me by email, thanks

  • Its celtic music or more popularly called Folk music. Great Job! The music is great, especially for Irish Dancing!

  • I got a low tin whistle in d and have nbeen givn this tuen to play. you do it fantasticly. :D my version starts off with a b below the stave meaning i haev to do the whoel thing down an octave. DO oyu just do it up an ctave and do the rest as written? any advice would be much appreciated :D

  • Lovely playing.

As for tips you suggest, well not a lot except maybe show your face, nothing to be ashamed of here.

  • Great video, fantastic music, thank you!

I listen to that again and again and can't stop.

"In fact, i'm not mean to. =)"

Now i want to buy a low whistle to.=)

  • That's beautifully played!!! I would love to dance to that and or this song one day....

  • It's absolutly beautiful except listen to "The Great Kodo" without lyrics and pick up those notes.

  • WOW!!

  • I didnt hear any mistakes... isnt that the beauty of the tin whistle?

  • You made me cry here with such beautiful song! Please, could you record the song and send to me? You played in a way that made me trip to old Ireland xD!

  • that was great! your vibrato is a bit stilted. sounds liek it was throat vibrato. try getting a more gutteral vibrato. it tends to have a deeper slower more whoo whoo whoo sound then the whoowhoowho. :D but that was lovely!!

  • awesome.......i wish icould do this

im a beginner.....any1 hav any tips message me plz

    ty

  • thumbs up man

  • is your whistle an Ian Lambe Low D

    VERY GOOD

    cheers

    Mark

  • Hiyo! I don't play the low whistle, so I was wondering, is the instrument or a technique that you use to get that "oscillating" sound, heard best during the very last note of the song.

  • It's a technique called vibrato, you can see his right hand's ring finger (the finger next to the small finger) covering and uncovering the hole. Depending on the note you're playing you have to do that on a diferent hole, but you can also do it blowing somewhat irregularly.

  • That's really good. I love this tune. I have a low whistle - I dabble but have enough to learn with my harp.

  • hmm, does anyone have the notes for this song?:)

  • Nice one. You low whistlers should be posting more slow airs and movie melodies instead of all the monotone fast playing jigs, reels and crap.

  • Sounds like a good challenge. I'll break out my cam and headset...

  • i agree!! i love the slow airs an laments!! they are so beautiful.

  • Tip one: Play in a room that won't echo. You're in closed space there, my brother, and it's taking away from the quality.

    Tip two: Exit MSN messenger.

  • Lol msn sound... xD

  • Hey, I recognise this from "Feet of the Flames"!!! It's beautiful! Love it!

  • it's pretty... i also love that your computer is ion youtube lol

  • loved it, favorited

  • great thanks

  • i have a low whistle (D) and i absolutly looooove this song! could you pleeeeease tell me the fingurings for this song? i would appriciate it sooooooooo much.

  • though it lacks the excitement of the flute and that drum-like instrument, it's very rustic, and fits King of the Fairies well.

  • Ha sido fantastico, puedes enviarme la partitura

That was fantastic, could you send me the sheetmusic please?

  • Great thanks! your playing is wonderful!

  • Who makes your whistle?

  • Its a Chieftain Low D Tunable, If you google it you'll find a couple of websites and places to get it.

  • Well done!

  • Nice job man, sounded great.

  • I love this song! I learned the traditional set dance that goes with it once... but I forget it now. :P

  • Great!
