Most of the smoke was from the burning clutch. The Rio is more attuned to city driving and its gearing is aligned with this fact.It actually feels somewhat torquey due to its gearing and the fact that it has a straight-cylinder design.However, once you get into 5th gear at highway speeds you're going to encounter high revolutions.This car was not designed for high speed, nor was it designed for burning rubber.It was designed to go from point A to B (between 25-65 mph) at a relatively low cost.

@synestheticmonotony Agree 100% I drove my granny's 06 Rio on a 40 mile commute and most of the time I was going just over 70mph, The rpm gauge stayed around 3000rpm about 90% of the time, but the mpgs weren't that bad though for that type of driving. I still averaged low 30s.

You notice the power difference immediately. My Optima could smoke just about anything. I can burn out with it all day long. I had a Kia last me 625,000 miles. I would NEVER buy anything but a Kia.
