When the Military goes to War it has a set of Objectives to complete. In this case #1 Capture Bin Laden #2 Defeat the Taliban #3 added #4 Cature Saddam, #5 Find Weapons of Mass Destruction. #6 Set up Puppet Goverment in Iraq & Afgan. When the Objectives were to difficult to complete. They changed the objectives sent in more trrops and claimed the SURGE was a victory. This is a Political victory, not a true military victory.

It is obvious the surge helped stop much of the violence. Obama would be a fool to deny it and he doesn't.

But Obama says Now What???? We have thousands more troops there and are no closer to getting out of Iraq. The surge does not stop the political problem: the Iraqi gov't is not prepared to rule.

here is Obama's point as I understand it about the surge. Ok. Joey pushed me into the water, my hair got wet. I used a towel to dry it. It is still wet. I tried to comb it dry it is still. Then I used a blow dryer. But it was not plugged in. So, I plugged it in then dried my hair. But the reality is Joey should not have pushed me in the water and thus we still have not addressed the issue even though what we did worked. But that was not our purpose.

1.Why did they steer Obama to accept the phone company/domestic spy immunity as a good stance to adopt- this was the first crack in his Mr.Unique Politician posture.

2. he acts like a wallflower in August letting McCain bash him unopposed.

3.He STUPIDLY SAYS THE SURGE WAS SUCCESSFUL! He should be saying the Sunni switching sides MADE the surge successful.

4. He's attacking Palin-that's the JOB of Biden+Clinton!

defeating AlQaeda IS winning. there is less violence because Al Qaeda has been defeated. Less violence IS winning becuase it means there are fewer enemies able to launch attacks. Usa has captured or killed 5000 of the top Al Qaeda operatives and prevented 1oo planned terroirst attacks. One mit scientist was captured with fully developed plans and chemical poisons that she was going to poison usa water supply with. If you dont'think decimating Al Qaeda is winning then you are clueless

Go watch it again, he never admitted he was wrong. He still thinks what he wanted to do pre-surge was the correct thing to do and that it would have worked. He did say that the surge outperformed everyone's expectations.

Admitting that something is not what you expected to happen, and saying what the facts are is not "flip flopping". He is not lying, manufacturing things, or flipping positions. This is with a very hostile interviewer also, with that in consideration it actually went pretty well. I bet we don't see McCain doing Olberman anytime soon. Or even just going back on the daily show since he flipped everything he ever said prior to 4 years ago. Don't you remember when the republicans hated him?

Obama came back from his trip overseas and still said the surge did not work. Even knowing what he knows after being overseas he still came home and said he still would not have supported the surge.

At some point in time you guys have to wake up and look at the real world.

I can see, honestly, how anyone could claim he was flip flopping based on almost anything he says because he qualifies things so particularly and spends so much time explaining answers, and when he gives straight answers without qualifying all the points he even contridicts himself sometimes. His answer still appears to be "No" it didn't work, but the reasoning is that violence is down for a lot of reasons, not just because the surge "worked". O'Rilley is the one that said it "worked".

You make the mistake of thinking I am a cheerleader. It has nothing to do with me supporting Obama. Anyone with any sense can watch the video and SEE that he never said the surge worked in the video. He never said what the guy who titled this video clip said he did. I was pointing out the LIE. Truth has nothing to do with who I support.

For the record, I wanted Biden for president, because he was the most moderate canidate on both sides, and had the most foreign policy experience.

Go back up to the top. The whole problem I pointed out here was the guy labeling the video said Obama Flip-Flopped his position. He didn't. Bill O'Rilley said the surge worked. Obama said violence was down for a number of reasons, and that he still would have done what he said pre-surge, because at the time it was the right decision. Making the wrong decision based on the facts, then having it work a lot better than you expected does not make the wrong thing right, it just makes you lucky.

But if the surge did not work then there is a 99.9% chance that Obama would not have been able to say "violence was down for a number of reasons". There is only 1 factual event that caused the rest to happen and that was the surge. Do you think if the surge did not happen the rest of what Obama said would have?

Do you think anyone else but Obama would be talking about a 16 month withdraw without the surge?

The anbar awakening seemed to have something to do with it also. I would also argue that it might have been possible for some variation on strategy to take place with commanders on ground re-allocating their resources to troubled areas one at a time. I'm sure people that have been there have a much better idea than monday morning coaches like myself would. I think the surge is proving it did something, but noone has proved that it was the only possible scenario that would have worked.

I think the surge was needed to spark the anbar awakening. Other thing like you said may have worked, but not at the same speed, and probably not much confidece in that.
