Laker fans are too accustomed to winning...remember the 2000 championship season for the lakers was their first in 12 years..it took that long to rebuild a championship caliber team..the lakers this decade rebuilt quickly, it only took 6 years to win another ring after 2002..Laker fans are too spoiled, its gonna take some long winless years to make fans that rabid and energetic again
Why they shouldn't let ex jocks be commentators: Bill Walton (when the score was 5-2) "the Lakers are up five nothing and Shaq hasn't touched the ball yet". Steve Jones: "Yeah, but they won't win if Shaq doesn't touch the ball".
what i noticed and bill walton points it out around 6:20 is phil jackson refuses to use post play even when its clear that is his teams advantage.....the bulls teams may have left him with that mentality....shaq in the 1st quarter here bynum and gasol now
@solljuh during the start to the 2007-2008 season(i believe) the lakers started the season with a thing called "lights out".. it was a promotion that would turn off the house lights and brighten the court lights...it was marketed as a way to show the court as a stage and the players as performers...kinda like a concert effect...it worked so well & fans responded to it so it has been that way ever since
@sde12345 Ya this was a great team...besides Shaq and Kobe..they had Glen Rice,Ron Harper,A.CGreen, and Derek Fisher,Rick Fox,Robert Horry and Brian Shaw and others...this was a great lakers team....and they went 67-15 in the regular season too..best record that year...:)

::sigh:: We really need another Staples Center crowd like this more than ever right now.
Nowadays it seems like the people in the crowds aren't real fans but rich douchecocks. I remember the fans refusing to wear the same colors earlier in the playoffs. The Lakers deserve and need better fans.
This was one of the best series in NBA history. Two teams going at each other with an actual raucous crowd. Nowadays there is no passion in the nba playoffs from the fans and the players only care about how much they are gonna be paid next season.
@lestat102786 its the lighting man. The way how staples center turned off the lights while only lighting the court makes a person feel like they are in the movies. It makes you less energetic and sleepy. they should just go back lighting the whole arena like how they did back then.

Doug Collins missed the call for this game because his daughter was graduating from college....The two former Blazers were with Bob Costas calling this game....and a classic Game 7 nonetheless.
Man, what an atmosphere Staples was. Listen to the chants of defense, it sounded like it was a tie game with a minute left in the 4th. Meanwhile, we were only two minutes into the game!
I remember seeing it on ESPN classic like 5 years ago back when espn classic was good and actually played tons of full games and aba games from the 70s all the time
It would have nice if the Lakers faced the Jazz in 2000 West Finals. Because, Utah swept LA in 1998 and defeated them in five games in 1997.

Man, what an atmosphere Staples was. Listen to the chants of defense, it sounded like it was a tie game with a minute left in the 4th. Meanwhile, we were only two minutes into the game!

I personally think Utah's Delta Center was the loudest at the start of games in the late 90's...I think the decibles prove that to be true
