Hi there, i am currently looking to buy this amp after seeing your review. The link you've posted seemed to be the cheapest out there, however I currently live in New Zealand, do you know if the site offers free shipping to New Zealand? Much appreciated if you could get back to me!!
I have this amp and I want to buy a distortion pedal for it. I've been thinking in the marshall guv'nor or the boss ds-1 with keeley modification, which is best for hard rock and rock (Guns N' Roses, Queen...)?
Neither... the amp should have enough gain as it is. Are your knobs on your guitar turned up all the way? Does your guitar have humbuckers? If yes, turn up the overdrive knob full and adjust the amount of gain with the gain knob.
@Laura94tc The bigger version of this amp (35LDX, which I might buy soon) has as a footswitch option to change channels. Otherwise, yes you could get a distortion pedal. But you could also just roll down the volume on your guitar to clean it up.
@jnukes2 I'm decided, I'll get a distortion pedal, the only this is that I don't know which to get because of its sound with the solid state amp, that's why I'm asking you.
@Laura94tc I have no experience with either of those pedals, so I don't know what to tell you. But unless you're performing and you really need to switch between clean and distortion on the fly, you don't need a pedal for it. Just adjust the volume on your guitar. If you must get a pedal, get the Wampler Pinnacle... but with the money you already spent on the amp you might as well have gotten the 35ldx or a better amp.
Does anyone know how well this amp sounds for acoustic guitars? given the changes in settings, would this amp be able to work out for folk styled music?
@jnukes2 hey man i've never seen your style of sweep picking before. idk if its a weird camera angle but it looks like youve got your strum hand over the frets and youre like flipping it over this way and that. could you explain what you're doing? your playing is awesome though dude jesus two thumbs up for sure. Also, i need a good practice amp for college, cause right now ive got a vox vt50 and the damn thing weights like 50 pounds. so what else would you recommend? thanks
Hey I'm the big filipino dude that stops by the music store once in awhile :) I finaly subscribed to you. I'm watching this vid again haha. Take it easy man!
@peterpulpitpounder its sweet bro i got the amp two days ago and i play a takamine and a fender hrough it both sound sweet u just gotta tame the dals for the acoutis its sweet :) enjoy and i recomend
I bought the same one a few weeks ago and I don't like it, the distortion is not good enough, when I boost the lows, the sound messes up and all I hear is bass, when I boost the highs, the sound is kinda good, but I can barely feel any low tones, also, when I turn the distortion off, the acoustic sound is BAD! Very very BAD! My advice - don't waste your money on this! Buy a Behringer or Fender!
Hey. I'm interested in buying one of these and was wondering how it would do in terms of recording? I hear that small/practise amps actually work really well for recording. I'm looking for that distorted tone you hear a lot in music these days. Emarosa? (If you've never heard of them please listen to 'The Past Should Stay Dead' and let me know if you think this amp could pull off that tone) I'm pretty new when it comes to just about everything.
@blink182fan10 Love Emarosa's drop d tuning tone and I think this amp would definitely work well. Their guitarist Jonas is a beast and obviously they have the best vocalist i've ever heard.
Hey, I'm looking at getting one of these but I'm wondering how well it does on the low E-string. I have an aging 15w Crate that sounds horrible on the low end and was wondering if it was just speaker quality or the fact that it has an 8 inch speaker (which this amp has). How well does this amp handle low notes? (I play in standard tuning).
dude, what Les Paul is that? it looks like a cross between a Studio and the BH sig LP. also, how does that amp sound with pedals. im thinking about getting a DigiTech RP500.
thanks
ps, nice review. i think im gonna get that amp for my LP
@hillbillymoment9 I would recommend adding a boost pedal, if I'm correct in thinking that you want more of an over-the-cliff kind of metal distortion.
finally decided to buy this amp... before buying it i was just wondering what is the 8 ohms headphone input jack? is a size? do i need some sort of input jack to a 3mm headphone jack?
Depends on the drummer. I jam with an absolutely monster drummer and he can hear it. Remember that its function is a practice amp, however, it's very possible to hear over a drummer - it's just not the best choice you can make. If you gig with a PA system, then this amp will definitely have some good use if you want to be heard over drums.
It's a solid state combo with no speaker outs, so it can't be used as a head...
Hey I asked you this earlier but in this video around 3:45 or so you play this riff where there's alternating power chords and palm muted arpeggios. That riff is amazing. Where is it from? I thought it sounded like "that's the way you need it" by journey but the arps arent in it.
is this amp suitable for punk style music? you'll probably won't like them but, can you archive tones like blink 182 song's?... or the amp is powerful enough. + can you get tones like acoustic guitars?
sorry, just wondering... thinking of buying amp. just want to make sure before i buy it.
I've played my Gibson Les Paul Studio, an Ibanez RG, and some Schecters and surprisingly, this amp does relatively well at bringing out the characteristics of each guitar.
hello ive already tried out orange crush 20l and i absolutely love the clean tone...but my problem is here in my place there's no crush 20ldx so i kinda undecided to take line 6 spider IV or just buy crush 20l and save up to buy multi effect later (much later coz no money)...so do u think its worth it?
The Line 6 Spider series are horrible amps - avoid them completely.
If you're on a budget, just try to find the 20LDX. You can always order from the link that I put in the description. The only effects that the LDX lacks is probably a phaser and a wah pedal. I think the money is worth it for the 4 types of reverbs and delay settings alone. Even if you plan on buying a multi-fx anyway, I would get the LDX just to conveniently have the effects there anyway. That way if you're just
@jnukes2 playing at friends' houses a lot, or moving around a lot, you'll just need to lug around one amp unit, your guitar and 1 cable. Great sound, no power supplies, and easy.
@jnukes2 the thing is that i live in malaysia...i dun the store u recommended can ship it here...even if it could, it will expensive and i might as well buy 35LDX which i can get here...nvm thank for the advice, i guess i''ll just buy 20L and save up for multi-fx
I want to buy a Gibson les paul Studio Alpine White
And I want to do the same mods as you did exept for I want it with to volume nobs and one tone nob and the pick up selecter at the normal position to make it look like the first white les paul he used when he toured with Guns N Roses
- This is the Gibson Les Paul Studio in Alpine White
- If you haven't played a Les Paul or anything similar to it, you'll hate the pickup selector up there. I've been used to mine in the bottom portion of the guitar for so long that when I play other Les Paul style guitars, I can't stand the selector being up there. Plus, the master volume for both pickups is awesome as well. Once you get good at adjusting the volume knob, you won't need separate volumes for both pickups.
Yes and yes. it takes my Dunlop Crybaby 535Q extremely well. However, there is not an FX loop on this amp, so some time-based effects might not sound right. If you're not playing gigs and do not demand instant effect changes, then the knob for the effects on the amp itself should do you fine.
This amp does Led Zeppelin just great. British voicings in a box! Hope this helps.
Definitely. You can get slightly overdriven tones with clarity in chords all the way up to high gain and of course different stages of gain in between.
seeing as how you work in a music store, is this one pretty much the same thing as the CR20L but with effects? im not looking for effects on the amp and the CR20L has none. also if the amps are the same minus the effects, does it have more bass in it? im sorry for being so picky
Yes, the 20L is the exact same, just without effects. No it doesn't have more bass in it.
However, I wholeheartedly, firmly believe that the extra $40 is DEFINITELY worth it. 20L being $115, 20LDX being $159. Even if it just had the tuner and some reverb then I would be happy to pay $159. If you can scrap up an extra $40, I highly encourage you to get the 20LDX.
@jnukes2 normally i would do that, but i plan on getting a decent multi fx pedal before a new amp, so with the amp i was gonna try and skip the fx part. and thanks for the feedback, i kinda figured that there wasnt more bass in it, mainly because its an orange, they're known for their more middle/treb sounds. and im aware of the microphone problems and youtube compresses the hell out of videos, ill probly go and try this amp out at a guitar center see if i like it. thanks again =)
In my opinion, the only thing missing from this amp is probably a phaser, wah and volume pedal. I'm not a fan of multi-fx units unless they're high-end. (TC Electronics, Axe FX, Rocktron). If you have your heart set on a multi-fx pedal, I would still get the LDX for good measure.
If you are concerned about the amount of treble you hear in the video, please consider my camera microphone's quality (aka it's horrible :\). The amp is a wee bit high ended, but I think it's because it's British voiced and the 8" speaker. You can EQ it out, though. The 35L / 35LDX has a 10" speaker, and it is definitely noticeably more bassy sounding but has a tiny bit less gain.
What do you think-- this amp, a Peavey Vypyr 15W, or a Vox Valvetronix VT15 15W? Do you find those built-in effects practical? I'd love your opinion on these matters since I've never had the opportunity to play this Orange amp before!
The cleans are absolutely WONDERFUL on this amp. I get better cleans with the distortion channel on, and then simply rolling back the volume on the guitar.
I've heard that the Vypyr is okay... it's somewhat versatile for the price but sounds fake because it's a modeling amp. The cleans are decent, too.
The Vox is a modeling amp also... not very good for high gain.
I think the Orange can do it all. With the added FX and tuner is even better. I recommend this British beast!
youre a good player but you should add some bass to that first metal section. it was pretty thin. but excellent playing and thanks for the demo! -Evan
i have a fender frontman 212r and im not happy with its gain structure anymore. it doesnt push very far at all and when its turned up, the sound is really broken up and bad. what you you recommend that is super versatile and can have lots of different sounds of gain?
You have to be shitting me.. Wow you shure you dont have pedal on that orange? Ive been playing for 14 years im thinking of buying this for the bedroom. How is it when you scoop the mids? what kind of metal can this thing handle?
I'm very sure I'm not using any pedals, hehe. I haven't tried scooping the mids on it. I think it handles metal well. There's plenty of pre-amp gain to go around. It's a wonderful bedroom practice amp.
Very... Buckethead like... Now that I've heard it I NEED this amp! I have band practice every saturday I play in a punk/metal band, I think this is an awesome amp...
So what do you say, Orange or Roland cube?

Two questions: 1. does this amp sound good with other pedals (wah wah, etc)? 2. Do you think I can get Led Zeppelin tones out of this amp? Thanks
codemonkey615552 1 year ago
@codemonkey615552
Hope this helps.

is this a good amp to play with distortion ? , i looking for a amp to play hard rock ,
and to practice so i can play with open chords with good sound with out a pedal
xundercover9789 1 year ago
@xundercover9789
Definitely. You can get slightly overdriven tones with clarity in chords all the way up to high gain and of course different stages of gain in between.

can you give me like a complete list of all the songs you play in this? Thanks :D

seeing as how you work in a music store, is this one pretty much the same thing as the CR20L but with effects? im not looking for effects on the amp and the CR20L has none. also if the amps are the same minus the effects, does it have more bass in it? im sorry for being so picky
astaschak 1 year ago
@astaschak

@jnukes2 normally i would do that, but i plan on getting a decent multi fx pedal before a new amp, so with the amp i was gonna try and skip the fx part. and thanks for the feedback, i kinda figured that there wasnt more bass in it, mainly because its an orange, they're known for their more middle/treb sounds. and im aware of the microphone problems and youtube compresses the hell out of videos, ill probly go and try this amp out at a guitar center see if i like it. thanks again =)
astaschak 1 year ago
@astaschak

@astaschak
Part 2:
If you are concerned about the amount of treble you hear in the video, please consider my camera microphone's quality (aka it's horrible :\). The amp is a wee bit high ended, but I think it's because it's British voiced and the 8" speaker. You can EQ it out, though. The 35L / 35LDX has a 10" speaker, and it is definitely noticeably more bassy sounding but has a tiny bit less gain.

@GUNSNCOWS
Of course this is a good practice amp, that's why I chose to demo it and show off what it can do!

is that Buckethead?
grannynappster 1 year ago
Now THAT is a clean sound! Beautiful!
What do you think-- this amp, a Peavey Vypyr 15W, or a Vox Valvetronix VT15 15W? Do you find those built-in effects practical? I'd love your opinion on these matters since I've never had the opportunity to play this Orange amp before!
orangehasrhymes 1 year ago
@orangehasrhymes

-Evan

@MrBasementJams
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah this amp is voiced pretty high... It's because of the small speaker. The 35LDX is significantly darker.
jnukes2 1 year ago
@jnukes2
that makes sense

i have a fender frontman 212r and im not happy with its gain structure anymore. it doesnt push very far at all and when its turned up, the sound is really broken up and bad. what you you recommend that is super versatile and can have lots of different sounds of gain?
omfg51 1 year ago
@omfg51
The Frontman is not good for distortion at all. This might sound biased but give this amp a try. It's only $159 and it's well worth the money.

What song did you play in the beginning, its soo fucking sexxxy??? haha
KevinBBrock 1 year ago
You have to be shitting me.. Wow you shure you dont have pedal on that orange? Ive been playing for 14 years im thinking of buying this for the bedroom. How is it when you scoop the mids? what kind of metal can this thing handle?
eatthemoon13 1 year ago
@eatthemoon13
I'm very sure I'm not using any pedals, hehe. I haven't tried scooping the mids on it. I think it handles metal well. There's plenty of pre-amp gain to go around. It's a wonderful bedroom practice amp.
