  • Unexpected, come on Anthony... I don't even know why did they went through the whole ceremony, the SOTL cast should have gone to pick up their Oscar and leave. Best movie EVER.

  • Did he try to kiss her on the mouth....:-)

  • Robert de niro was badass also!!! to bad he had to go against a better villian

  • Watch out, Kathy, he'll eat you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wouldn't say Anthony Hopkins was a leading role in that film

he was great in it but he should have been up for supporting actor and obviously he should have won it but that's what he should have been up for

  • i think from the applause anthony got warren knew he wasnt gonna win

  • 1:01 Anthony tries to take a bite out of Kathy Bates face.

  • I loved his performance and it deserved an oscar but his screen time was rather small (compare to the average lead role actor)...shouldn't it have been a best supporting actor instead?

  • he should have started his speech by saying 'I'd like to have all of you at my house for dinner'

  • if got eaten it would be from this guy

  • Quote that came to my mind the second the clip started: "You dirty birdy!"

  • That's one of the loudest cheers I've heard to a winner being announced.

  • I especially remember Hopkins as Professor Van Helsing from Bram Stoker's Dracula.

  • @MDthornton83 I saw that the other day. Strange film, but he was really good in it.

  • These were the GOOD MOVIE days. R.I.P

  • well deserved it best fucking psychopath in a movie ever

to this day its still one of my favorites

  • Just think...his on screen talking time in this movie was a total of 16 minutes. That's it. Yet his presence dominated it. He managed to make that villain both awful and yet dangerously sexy. In fact, I read an interview of him where he stated that 'the ladies seem to love the chills'. One of the greatest actors EVER to grace the arts.

  • Kathy Bates madethe villain in "Misery", gives an Oscar for another villain.

  • Was there any doubt that Hopkins would win? Unfortunately, De Niro gave an amazing performance in the same year, because his performance as Max Cady was AMAZING

  • The Best Actor ever lived, personally.

  • he's my favorite actor. so awesome =)

  • Check on freegamemovieblogspotcom to download the silence of lambs.

  • after watching jodie's speech, and her reaction in this, anyone else think shes got a bit of a crush??

  • Jodie was so happy for him, and he's such a SIR! I mean, how he talks, what he talks, a real real gentleman :)

One of my fav. actors ever

  • 2:04. My dear beloved wife.... (What's her name... Oh, yeah)... Jenny.

  • Jodie looks nice

  • 2 Most deserved Oscars - Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins

  • 2 most deserved Oscars - Anthony. Hopkins , Jodie Foster

  • Sir. Hopkins is AMAZING !

  • anthony hopkins deserves it... he really deserves it

  • blah blah : yeah... Anthony Hopkins: YEAAAH! :D

  • Annie Wilkes (crazy) has presented doctor Hannibal Lecter (crazier than her) at Academy Awards... IT'S ALL A QUESTION OF CRAZYNESS, DON'T YOU THINK SO? :) anthony you're the best!!!

  • All of them were like "YEAH!!!!" "Anthony/Hannibal rules!!!"

  • I can just imagine what Anthony said to his dad that night in his dreams. "Dad, I hope I made you proud playing the most ruthless cannibal on the face of the Earth."

  • Isnt it kind of funny a villianess presenting to a villain? Except idk who is worse, she breaks ankles, and he eats people.

  • he's god. HE IS.

  • There is an interview with Hopkins on u tube where he explains his development of the character ''Lecter'' its amazing even down to the haircut which Hopkins says he wanted it slicked very tight back across his head like a rat because a rat is a killing machine and so is Lecter check it out fans.

  • my nightmare

  • Just hear the crowd and you know who's the fav.

  • Kathy flinched

  • Contrary to popular belief, Anthony Hopkins does NOT have the shortest screen time of a Best Actor winner.

  • @AQuestionorSomethin4: Yeah, because Ledger won so much earlier than Anthony Hopkins :-D we're talking 1992 not 2008, dude^^

  • First Anthony Hopkins then Heath Ledger. Hmm who's next on the oscar for best villains???

  • For one psico (Bates in Misery) to another

  • Hopkins created the greatest and most evil and sinister yet intelligent villain in film history!!!

  • One of the greatest role in history of cinematogrphy

  • hannibal is the perfect villain .... i have never seen again such a smart and dangerous man... what a perfomance

  • @Basterdbazinga Not to mention absolutely terrifying.

  • The comment that no actor ever won an Oscar for playing a villain is a spectacularly obtuse remark. COUNTLESS actors won for playing a villain: Brando in The Godfather, McLaughlin in The Informer, DeNiro in Godfather II, ad infinitum!

  • are jody foster is so proud of him bless her

  • Anthony Hopkins only had 16 minutes of screen time and the movie wasn't really about him BUT he made the most of the role, gave an amazing performance and deserved the oscar.

  • One of the greatest actors of all time.

  • whats the music they play? its good!

  • @rascally5 I don't know the name of the piece, but I can tell you that it is simply an orchestral interpretation of the music played during the opening credits of The Silence of the Lambs.

  • Robin Williams should have won... LOL jk.

  • Robert DeNiro seems happy for Anthony!!!

  • This walish accent sounds so nice and fluently. Not so "dry" like normal british accent.

  • Robert Deniro probably would have won it any other year for his outstanding performance in Cape Fear, but anthony hopkins delivered one of the best acting performances of all time. Deniro had no chance

  • Wow.. Quite the line-up that year!

  • What a legend! he never did a bad film

  • judie foster is so pretty!!!♥♥

  • Annie Wilkes and Hannibal Lector...2 People I Would Not Want To Run Into.... :O

  • A lucky actor. Nothing special.

  • @colorblind99 lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo omg

  • @colorblind99 Damn right he deserved this Oscar...he's one of a kind

  • WHAT A VOICE!

  • 16 fucking minutes and a Oscar? That's fucking EPIC!

  • best acted movie role ever!

  • Most well - deserved award in Oscar history !!

  • Did you see Robin Williams when Anthony won? He looked just as excited as Anthony! Haha!

  • at 1:00 she was like "oh no oh no!"

then at 1:02 she was like " no don't eat my face!"

  • That was an incredible crowd reaction to Hannibal winning the Oscar.

  • I'm so in love with this man! And his voice is like an ear orgasm!

  • warren beatty? hahaha...

  • Hes actually so great actor, that this oscar speech sounds like some kind of monologue from some movie, and is pleasant to listening. British accent is always nicehearing BTW.

  • The rest never stood a chance.... <3

  • great actor

  • The first time an actor ever won an Oscar for playing a villain. Great moment in film history and couldn't have gone to a better actor/character.

  • @shadowstalker1120 what about gordon gekko (michael douglas) i mean he didn't bite anybody but he was kinda bad

  • @shadowstalker1120 What about Kathy Bates, seen here giving the Oscar, she took an Oscar herself for playing the dastardly role of Annie Wilkes in 'Misery'!

  • @shadowstalker1120 A year later it was followed by Gene Hackman, also superb!

  • @shadowstalker1120 Well that's not technically true. Louise Fletcher won for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1975 playing Nurse Ratched who was the evil and controlling antagonist. But I hear you when you say that it couldn't have gone to better actor playing a villain. He was so charismatic and frightening as Hannibal Lector that the Academy just knew right away it was his.

  • @shadowstalker1120 Thats hard to believe. Seems like every year the villians are lathered with gold statues (Ledger, waltz, Bardem)

  • @shadowstalker1120 People who have one for playing villians:

Anthony Hopkins in silence of the lambs.

Kevin Spacey in the usual suspects

Heath Ledger in the dark knight.

when it comes to great preformences...need i say more?

  • @TheTributeMedia huh....Christoph Waltz?

  • @TheTributeMedia javier bardem- no country for old men

  • @TheTributeMedia Don't Forget the BateMan >:3

  • @TheTributeMedia They should've given Gary Oldman an oscar, too. He's played so many villains SO well, I think he deserved an oscar, too. But the Academy is often about publicity and stuff. :(

  • @TheTributeMedia go more for the people who played villians and deserved an scar, Ralph Fiennes, and Jack NIcholson

  • @TheTributeMedia I think you miss some guys, this is my list:

    Stansfield (Léon)

    Heath Ledger (Dark Knight)

Antony Hopkins (Silence of the lambs)

Anton Chigurh (No country for old men)

    Jack Nicholson (Batman)

Daniel Day Lewis (There will be blood and Gangs of New York)

  • @Dorfmaist

I got one more... Kathy Bates herself... Best Actress as Annie Wilkes in MISERY... god i love that movie... She's at my top five best villains on films... (of course no one is greater than Hannibal Lecter.)

    My faverite Villains

    1. Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the lambs)

    2. Norman Bates (Psycho)

    3. Darth Vader (Star Wars)

    4. Annie Wilkes (Misery)

    5. Eve Harrington (All About Eve)

  • @cacay21 you like the AFI, right?

  • @TheTributeMedia and Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men

  • @TheTributeMedia you forgot Cristoph Waltz for Inglorious Basterds, and Kathy Bates for Misery

  • @AQuestionOrSomethin4 Waltz? He was good, but not of the level of Bardem, Ledger, Spacey and Hopkins. Not by far, in my opinion.

  • @TheTributeMedia You can add Christopher Waltz ( Col SS Hans Landa ) and Javier Bardem (Anton Chigure) to that list...

  • @TheTributeMedia

Heath Ledger!? I don't know. Wasn't that fil heightened because of his death. I think you do need to say more.

  • @TheTributeMedia you can add javier bardem in no country for old men.that was great

  • @shadowstalker1120 Yeah I don't that's true at all.

  • @shadowstalker1120 he's not the first actor to win an Oscar for a villain Ledger won for The Dark Knight.

  • @shadowstalker1120 No, it isnt first time. Kathy Bates won Oscar for Misery in 1991.

  • @shadowstalker1120 Actually Kathy Bates for Misery, Michael Douglass for Wall Street and Louise Fletcher for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest are examples of villainous roles that won before Hopkins.

  • I love this guys speaking voice!! Such a gentleman!! Love him!! Short sweet speech that wasn't rambling on with a load of bullsh*t!! Lets face it some of them go overboard and I think they even thank their mailman!! Just a crock of shyte if you ask me!! Anthony Hopkins is a legend!!

  • Can someone please explain why does bill shove cocoons in the victim's mouth?

  • This barely happens right? Both actors from the same movie take home the Best Actor and Actress Award

  • THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (real creepy-like) lol

  • Wow how come robin william was competed with him? both r gr8 actors

  • @linnizwijkmark1 hes good but i would go with robert de niro or johnny depp

  • Did you see Kathy Bates duck, when he embraced her? She musta thought he was gonna bite her cheek off like Hannibal??? LOL

  • @sdubya84: Poor Kathy Bates, though her perfomance in Misery was even scarier xD

  • @sdubya84

    Hahahaha

  • @sdubya84 hahahahhahahhaahaaahahah omg

  • @sdubya84 No, she was going to break his legs for trying to get away.

  • One of the best actor ever lived!

    He is my NUMBER ONE!

  • @linnizwijkmark1 nope.

  • Poor Nick Nolte, the only one without an Oscar.

  • Definitely deserved. He is such a freakin' amazing actor! Gosh I love him.

  • Why do they applaud to cannibal? He is dangerous man and eats people!

  • @Pe4enj good thing that's not actually Hannibal, he fooled you though, huh? That's why he deserves the Oscar
