It's just occured to me that Clokey may have animated on several of Zappas music vids. During the Stinkfoot solo there's some claymation when Frank grows an extra set of fingers and it turns into a demon thing that bites his neck. Does anyone know if it was Art who did them?
there are some people that you trip and smoke with and some that you dont, and after hearing this, thanks for the art work but this viewing comprehends that I WOULD NEVER PASS THE JOINT OR GiVE U A HIT OF ANYTHING to this person..\\
When I was 3 or 4 years old, every time my parents drove me past this wooden house, I would ALWAYS see Gumby's hand waving out the window. But I don't see that any more, I can't tell if it's because Gumby moved away, or if my imagination moved away.
That clip that starts at 1:38 - I swear, I saw an episode with that in it, and it deeply traumatized me as a child o_o; does anyone know what episode that's from? if any?
I assume that Clokey ended up swearing off drugs when he got his life back together; in one interview, he actually denied ever having taken any kind of hallucinogenic drugs - he was probably extremely ashamed of that period in his life.
I loved Gumby and Pokey (the 50s stuff in particular, as that was my era---I grew up in the 60s, and this was the Gumby and Pokey I was used to). I dug this guy's stuff. But LSD? And people think this is cool? He did his best work back in the 50s, before he touched LSD. What a disappointment to find out Clokey torched his domestic life and left his children behind to become a hippie. It's like a whole generation never grew up, and he was just another one of 'em.
The music was an original score created for the Sundance documentary Gumby Dharma. Music credits are given to Jason Kleinberg. This information was provided by the IMDB page for Gumby Dharma. I could not locate any place where the music was available or exists otherwise beyond this documentary. There is no official release date, or even a guaranteed future release date of this interview on DVD (it may never come out, though it definitely should, i would purchase it!)
Art never experimented until the late 60's. After the 50's and 60;s episodes of Gumby. His life is full of lessons. To his great credit admits to his mistakes and learns from them. Check out the whole hour documentary Gumby Dharma of which this clip is just a sliver of. Art's honesty and creativity and character shine through in it. He tells everyone: "Gumby Loves You".
right. Like all human beings. What's great is that he admits to it and learns from it. This above clip was just one small sliver and does not tell his whole story. You could hardly call him an acid tripper for trying it once with a doctor. Anyway, I hope you get to see the whole documentary to get a better view of the whole.
Well, it does make sense by the looks of the first Episode where He's on the Moon, and everything seems like something out of a Weirded out Dream that don't make lots of Sense
now this generation is drinking cough syrup. smh

Gumbies Howdy Doody Show debut was in 1956. We watched it on a round TV about the size of a dinner plate. You were lucky to have a TV back in 50's.

Well it wouldn't make sense to create a show like gumby and not experiment with hallucinogenics. That show sometimes only makes sense while tripping.

@Django5198 That was a guy called Bruce Bickford who did heaps of animations for Frank including Billy the Mountain. Amazing guy

If he was born in 1921, he must have already been in his forties during the hippy revolution.
There's hope for me yet!

@bukster1 Wasn't Art Clokey a bit too old to be a hippie?
67nairb 1 year ago
@67nairb He sure was, but he didn't let that stop him!

@bukster1 But nearly all hippies in the 1960s were no older than 30.

I always knew Art was a bit of a stoner. Look at any old Gumby cartoon and tell me it wasn't concieved or at least inspired by an acid trip.
