I love the sound of these two instruments together. The Bandura has been a favorite of mine for many years since Going to BC and watching a very tallented man play one. He was a sTreet Musician but Oh so wonderful Like your music.
@aleksecond I assume you mean the Kobzar. Wrong mate, Fr. Jeffrie is playing a bandura. The Kobzar has 6 strings, and is played like a guitar. The Bandura has 63 to 65 strings and is plucked like a lute. Now, look at that instrument, and you'll see it has more than 6 strings. Have a nice day. =Stefan=
Sche ne vmerla Ukraina! But why this name? How can a people call itself "those over the border"? You are Russians, my brothers! You single are just a tiny piece of Europe, of little importance but together with the other Russians (Veliko and Belo) you could be No. 1 in Europe!
Of course, it is not in our interest to tell you that, I am Romanian.
The only "White" Russians are the Russians themselves. Belarus means White Rus, or White Ruthenia, which is what Ukraine was called until Peter stole that name and used it for his Duchy of Muscovy.
If anything, Russians are the descendants of Ukrajino-Belarusians.
I do get your point though, mate. I really detest the name Ukraine, but on the other hand, I love it for everything it stands for. I wish I were able to call myself Rus'kyj, but unfortunately that means something else these days.
'Fraid not. That's like me calling you an Italian gypsy, and that's if you're even Romanian at all. Ukraine is far older than Russia (OK, so we had a name change or two, but who hasn't?) so how can we possibly be "of them", so to speak?
Do answer me that, since I really want to understand this weird logic you share with so many Russians.
Not true. Durak Rambo is a russian agitator-instigator. Nobody wants Russians, because they are barbarians with a Tatar-Mongol culture and mentality. A 3rd World Country with nuclear weapons and oil, and national gross product smaller that that of Spain. Russia is not a world power any longer. It has been replaced by China.
@375015568 "Nobody wants Russians, because they are barbarians with a Tatar-Mongol culture and mentality."
thats a big silly right there. you seem to be unable to make an elementary distinction between russian people and russian leaders. yes its a fact that russian leaders are the worst among the worst. but russian people aren't happy about this and this is not the defining characteristic of their culture. russia is recognized globally for theater, art, math, science, etc.
@SpeechTherpy Exactly. That's like saying all Americans are like George W. Bush, or Barack Obama, or Newt Gingrich, or Ollie North, or Bill Clinton, etc. etc.
I'm now learning this song on the balalaika, first with thumb pizzicato and pizzicato vibrato, then I will make some chords for my insrument. I am learning by listening, so thank-you to Jepphrey Stephaniuk for putting this song on Youtube!
Hey, Mr. Solkovsky! What's balalaika have to do with this video??? Balalaika is a Russian national instrument, played by Russians. This video features a badura---get it? A BADURA.
A Ukrainian national instrument, so please don't be an asshole, and try to respect the unique aspects of the bandura and the balalaika, but don't mix them up, ini-mini-mo,'cause toy're just too stupid to know the difference, and clueless why there is a difference in the first place! Come on, Solkovsky, get it right!
Hey, Mr Dumbass-Twat (375015568), firstly, it's a bandura, not a badura. Secondly, Ukrainians use guitars, which are German, so why not Russian balalaikas? Thirdly, the balalaika's ancestor was a Ukrainian lute-like instrument, and the name of the instrument is descended from the same roots as "Balačka", from Old Ukrainian (Ruthenian).
So, would you kindly piss off? Music has not ethnic, nor political boundaries. If you were Ukrainian, you'd at least be able to spell бандура.
I did say "Badura". For that typo I take the blame. I know it's BANDURA. Anybody can play whatever they want. You know shit about "balalaika". It comes from the east-probably Tatars and Mongols of the middle ages, and never from Europe. Versions of the balalaika are played all over Asia today. Balalaika was favored by the Russian court, mainly because it was easy to play. Balalaika name is Asian, just listen to it the name! Lute-like? Not even close. Nothing to do with lute. Solkovsky, fuck you.
Guitar is not German. You just don't know shit, do you? It came from Italy-Spain and never from Germany. Traditional music is very much ethnic, especially the bandura, as nobody else plays it, except rarely. It's very hard to play. What are you, Solkovsky? A Soviet-Russian Jew living in England, acting real smart? What do you know, how to spread disinformation? I'm not Ukrainian, but I know how people like you fucked them over for centuries. I heard that balalaika up your ass sound good. Try it
Oh, well I'm so glad you "know" about what the Soviet Union and inevitably SOME Jews did to Ukraine, because my family experienced it, through Holodomor, what followed and what went before. My grandfather's village church was held to ransom by Jews; anyone who couldn't afford the hugely expensive fee (not even a donation, but an actual charge) was not allowed to attend mass, and that is a sin in Catholic eyes. Whilst I am 100% sure God would not hold it against those poor peasants, for not...
