Thanks for posting this video. I really appreciate the attention to detail- trailhead location, elevation gain, etc. It is extremely helpful in planning a trip. I'm moving to Asheville in about a month and I'm looking forward to exploring the area.
I would like to recreate this hike this weekend with my dog and wife. Are there any shelters along the trial that we can stay at? Also.. is there anyway of making it a loop, if not how do you get back to the car? Thanks so much for posting.
@fizzer929 There are no shelters on any of these trails, but there are numerous campsites in Deep Gap where you can stay overnight (with a tent, obviously). The route described above is a complete loop that begins at the Colbert Ridge trailhead near Hammrick. The eastern end of the Buncombe Horse Range trail is about 1/4 mile from the Colbert Ridge trailhead. Get the USFS map for the Toe River/Mt. Mitchell area and you'll see where the route takes you. Have fun!

Good to know, thanks. Sorry, one last question - is there water there or nearby?

@johnnythedane About 1/4 mile down the Colbert Ridge trail there is a spring.

How many tents do you think could fit at Deep Gap campsite? 2? 4? more? Thanks for the vid, got me thinking.

@johnnythedane At that particular site - 1 or 2. Deep Gap has about a dozen total campsites that I have found.

Man you did a great job at documenting your trip. I like the detail. Someone can actually follow and duplicate this trip. Wish you had more vids.
