hey slim .. whats the best way to collect the blades.. I can do everything w/ my Masters so if have whatever blades are equivalent to those blades I should be good...
@jsherm2134 They're OK. I quit buying Oster products a while back. I still have some 111's that work fine and are 11 years old. But I've had problems with newer 76's and fast feeds. All my old Osters still work. The ones I've bought within the last 5 years are all dead.
I just got the Andis Super Select and it's incredible for 60 bucks (plus shipping), it has so much more quality than any basic wally world clipper. It's made in China but don't let that discourage you from buying the Super Select. It's the best clipper I've handled so far, I want the BGR+ someday.
I cut my own hair every 7 to 10 days and use only the 1/8 and 1/4 inch guards but use the adjustable blade on the SS often.
Damn nice clippers that feel good in your hand too. Cordless too!!!
I've been using BGR+ for the last 10month,it's a very nice clipper but i have an old 76 that's giving the BGR+ a run for the money.I also have 4 of the newer 76s that start acting crazy so i throw then in a box until i can figure out how to fix them....anyway Slim,I've been learning new tricks by watch your videos..keep doing your thing homie!!!!
I envy you guys in the states. You got the bety equipment available. In Holland(Amsterdam) i'm mostly stuck with Wahl, Moser etc. I'm looking for the Classic 97 to import because it's 220V with two round plugs. btw I can get the BGC2 and MBG2 but they cost about 290euro in retail, thats's over 400$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ryanmeursing holy shit man i feel for you i cut hair in the states and in the city i live in i can walk right across the street to a store named sally beauty supplys and buy any clipper or accessories i want why dont they have that where your at thats bullshit!! but i have a pair of the classic 76 clippers and a oster finishline trimmer i swear by so if you could get your hands on those i would recommend those most sorry i dont type with punctuation when im drunk lol
The last 2 I got lasted about 3-4 months. They started heating up to the point that you couldn't hold them. The motor would screech when you turned them on after about the 8th haircut in a day and stay super loud after the screeching was done. I talked to several other barbers who experienced the same thing. I don't know what caused it. I heard Oster tried to boost the power of the motor and/or machined the parts off shore. Whatever it was, it failed. And I swore by 76's prior to that.
I don't have the Oster 76 at my shop, it's in Chicago where I fill in sometimes. I think you are reading into this too much. When I made this video, I had met Ivan Zoot once. I was just a fan of Andis clippers. Also, did you not notice that at the time I used Oster Fast Feeds? Every barber I know who used to use 76's agrees that for the last 5 years, they've sucked. I was trying to save people money by not spending $120 on subpar machines. Also, the older 76's that work fine are loud too.
i purchased a pair of bgrc+ about 2 months ago thumbs up great clippers i used to use the wahl senior but not any more the bgrc+ cut so fast compare to my other clippers.
Although I prefer power Lines/76's to previous BG's, Ivan Zoot just came by and gave us some BGRv's that I'll try on the top two speeds. He also gave us the new Phatmaster and the titanium Styliner M3, the latter i seem to like already.
Where'd you graduate from Barber School if you don't mind me asking?
The BGRv's are nice. I recommend having a spare #1 if you use the #1 blade a lot. On the highest speed setting, the blade heats up. They are my clipper of choice now. I've never used the Phatmaster, but the M3's are sweet!
In answer to your question, I went to cosmetology school. At the time, there were no barber colleges around. I've always worked as a barber since school. I was trained by my father in law at his barber shop for 5 years before opening my own. Where's your school?
c,mon man dont be comparin osters with bgr,s! osters are the shit an will outlast any of them you have shown!! remember, dont fuck wi the old school!!!!!!!
you must have never owned a set of the BGR's or a set of Osters purchased within the last 5 years. I used to say the same thing, but Oster proved me wrong.
Slim, i just got some BGR+. on the manual it says you could leave them on the charger for a infinite time aslong as you refresh memory every month, but do you leave them on the charger over night ?
I would have to say the BGR because the last 2 76's I had crashed and burned. I suppose the old 76's would still last a long time, but the two 76's I bought 4 years ago sucked. I've had my first BGRc for about 3 years now and the BGR+ for about 2 and a half. Both are still going strong.
i also have another question, is there a difference between the andis fademaster and the andis improved master?...plus can i add guards to the improved master? because all i want is one clipper there i can do a 0 on the bottom and a 2 or 3 on the top. so is there guards i can buy for a fademaster or improved master or are those clippers only used for cutting the sides as a 0 ?
hey slim, i use my brothers clippers and they get hot after using them a while. i really don't know the name brand of them but is that normal for the clippers to get really hot after about half hour of use? plus, i wanna get some of my own clippers. i usually just fade a 0 into a 2 and i was doing research on wahl clippers and andis, is there really a difference between the two and i was looking for an andis clipper with a taper adjustment for kinda cheap, any you recommend?
try oiling them. The Improved Master goes from 000 to to 1. The fade master goes from 00000 to 000 (I think). I don't own the Fade Master. I hear they chew up the plastic guards though.
ok thanks. i have another question, i went to a local beauty store and i saw the improved master there for 98 bucks, is that a good price? also does the improved master have guards for buy? like if i wanted to fade a 0 into a 2? and lastly haha, i was looking at the speedmaster II. do you know if the speedmaster II is good for fading? i saw it comes with guards and such and i figure you might know. thanks. sorry if i'm asking a lot of questions.
hey slim, i'm looking to upgrade on clippers, i'm looking for clippers that will do a good job all around. styles i cut are fades, and tapers...short clean cuts... any suggestions?? thanks
hey slim. may sound like an odd question but i'm a 27 yr old guy that has already gone bald on top and in a nutshell whenever i go to a barbershop to get my sides/back buzzed they always want to taper the sides back like with a #1 on bottom then taper into a #2 towards the top. why is this so common? i've only got like 3 inches of hair that even grows and it just makes me feel like an old man when they buzz it that way. when i buzz it myself at home i don't even use an attachment. thanks!
Hi Slim - Now about those BGRc's...according some people (including you) they are better (quiet, faster, etc) and easy to use than the Classic's 76 (are also the BGRc's better in respect of LESS maintenance frequency than the 76's?) - I heard some comments regarding their ''big cord plug'' disassembling suddenly due it '' heavy'' weight..is this true?? if yes is this a frequent issue?
Slim - after all of these information I am going to get some Andis clipper instead the Oster 76 - but could you tell me please just something also about the Excel II or BGC trend ( which it's best among these 3 - the powerful) side by side with BGRC's? Do you know if are their rotary motor the same or carrying at least the same velocity / torque? thanks.
Hi - ok, thank you again - just a last question Slim now about ''cutting hair'' ( when using a BGRC) - if I choose to use a plastic guide comb set (with different comb sizes - using with a #000 blade) instead to carry a kit of different blades sizes (when cutting a hair to get some 3/8'' in lenght for example) would I miss some cutting quality? Would I get a big difference if using a blade 3.1/2 instead? thanks.
There wouldn't be a BIG difference, but you can't go fast. The teeth on the 000 are small and close together. The #1 and longer blades have bigger teeth which enables them to take in more hair in less time.
hey slim good set up...check out my vid if u get a chance...DC The Barber....my first vid was inspired by Ivan's last attempt @ breaking the record which he has done....take care man have a great '09
You may have tightened the screw too much if they are not cutting. Also try loosening or tightening the screw on the side of the clipper. As for cutting people, you probably have the moving blade bumped up too high. ALWAYS test them out on yourself first.
Hello Slim - could you give me please an opinion on the Andis T-Outliner Trimmer X The Oster T finisher regarding ''the best razor cut and why''? Thanks.
Hello Slim! Great Video! Man I just want to say that I just purchased those BGRc's from my online beauty supply store. I went off of your expert advice on those BGRc's being comparable if not better then my Oster76's..soo if the suck I am coming to the Chi-Town to get my money back from you (lol)!
I like the Ultra Edge on everything except the #1 and 000. It seems like the ceramic works well on the #1 and never gets hot, but the ceramic on longer lengths seems like it doesn't carry enough weight to get through hair longer than 1/8 inch.
Thanks for the vid slim... How did you get your outliners to cut so sharp. I have the same clipper and they don't cut very well... any ideas? and I have the T-trimmers
I have a new favorite. It's called the Andis Ceramic Select Cut. But out of the Fast Feed or Masters, I'll say the Fast Feed-barely. But I like the Masters for anything besides fading over the fast feed. But now I'm recommending the Select over either one for fading.
i notice andis have the andis ceramic powerfade also whats the difference bewteen the two? do you think the powerfade is any better then the select cut?
hi slim.i bought oster 76 clipper to cut my own hair. and then i bought #2 blade. my hair is thin. when i cut with #1 my head looked smooth.but when i cut with new #2 blade head doesn't look smooth. some hair stick out just i little bit but i can see it.
what can i do to solve this?i like smooth bold look. and maybe its blade needs adjustment? thank you.
It's hard to say without seeing it, but it could be a bad blade or you might have to run over the hair a few times in all directions. If your hair is really thin, the hair might be getting pushed with the clipper instead of cutting them.
Hello Slim, a couple of questions regarding the BGRCs. First, my barber supply guy says the blades from my Oster will work fine. Is that your experience as well? 2nd-now that you've been using it a while how's the maintenance-things like the brush life-working out? One last question, you said it's "almost" as powerful as the classic 76. But does it still have the power to do the job in a dependable, suitable fashion to give the customer a quality haircut? Many thanks.
The BGR will take the classic 76's blades, no problem. As for the maintenance, it's way easier than the 76-no carbon brushes, no grease, no problem with the switch or cord. The only thing I've had to replace was the tongue, it lost it's "snap". It's plenty powerful too. I've never had an issue with the clipper not being able to cut as smoothly as the 76.
Hey Slim, I am a master barber also from New England. I would LOVE to move to Chicago. A lot of my Paisons out there. {i'm Italian}. R U hiring? I'm a old- school barbering known for my tapers and fades and can give a mean flat-top. Somtime i'll come out there to say hey! And we will go out for a Chicago stuffed pizza. Cpeesh?- Rich Capo di tutti Copi
Right now I got 3 fill in barbers and one other full timer and that's about as much as I need right now. My father in law needs someone ASAP though and he's in Chicago proper at Model Barber Shop.
No. Lining clippers don't have big enough teeth to cut hair. They're made for lining and you can use them to cut the bald part on fades, but only after cutting it down to a 000. You can get away with a Master or Ceramic Select plus an outliner.
caught that BGRC last week or so and i must say it's nice, for it has a good weight/feel to it. i'm liking it so far. it's smaller than my classic 76r, which i put to rest for the time being. the only issue i had was the blades it came with, cause the ceramic blades teeth on both were not straight and the non-movings blade were sketchy aswell, but it aint no thing, some faulty blades pass through every now and then. i called andis then returned them , i'm suppose to get them replaced.
Slim i want to be the best in my town so im blending from cutthrought back and sides into a one or 2 on top its like the jarhead look its big here im wanting your advise on whether the andis master will take out that line im managing on sterling 2 but its hard work all day none stop, please help what tool do i need to ease of my concentration thanks!
what type of guard should i use if i want to cut my hair to like a med not short short or how to adjust my clippers to just give me a med haircut not a short one
Slim, do you cut your own hair? and, do you ever fade/blend with the clipper guards? I cut my own hair and will use a 1 on the side and then go to a 2etc... as I progress toward a uniform 5/8 length on top. Do you ever fade with clipper guards? if not, why?
I haven't used clipper guards in a long time. I occasionally cut my own hair. I don't use the guards because I use the removable blades that are set to a clipper length. They cut cleaner without leaving much individual hairs sticking out. I used clipper guards when cutting wasn't my job. There's nothing wrong with it, I just prefer the detachable blades.
no money has ever exchanged hands. Andis just has the nicest tools, especially ever since Oster started making 76's in China (so I'm told they're made in China now, but whatever the reason, the quality on the 76's dropped off A LOT). I never would have tried the BGR's if my last 2 sets of 76's weren't total crap. Thank god they were, because I love the BGR's.
I got the T-Outliners and it seems like nomatter how new the blade is, the lines are never as crisp as a barbers even if we use the same trimmers. I've been told that I may need to adjust them. What does it mean to adjust the liners/blades?
You can "bump" the blades by taking the blade apart and pushing the bottom blade up so the teeth don't overlap each other. Be careful because if the bottom teeth come out farther than the top, you will cut people. Test it on yourself first.
Hi Mal310 im wanting to get the same equiptment the antis masters will they get that line out from razor short to a one if so will they work on our uk power?
Hi GMMMB, I bought the bgr+ and a converter 240-110 that just plugs into the wall socket. It didn,t need to be a big one, only 45 watts and so was only a fiver. The clippers work a dream and so I also bought a power lead that is supposed to be for the Agr+ that are the only Andis we can buy here. It just popped right in and worked.
That's what I use the fast feed or Master's for. But a few times our power has gone out and I've done complete bald fades with just the BGR+. It took a little more concentration to blend the 000 to the 0, but it still looked the same.
Thanks, Slim. Taking my board exam April 28th. It's good to get some info from someone that uses these clippers everyday. Looking in to getting the gray Andis for myself.
What clipper would u recomend the bgr+ or bgrc?

Hello Slim! Great Video! Man I just want to say that I just purchased those BGRc's from my online beauty supply store. I went off of your expert advice on those BGRc's being comparable if not better then my Oster76's..soo if the suck I am coming to the Chi-Town to get my money back from you (lol)!

Hi Slim,
which you prefer to use UltraEdge vs. Ceramic Edge blades and why.
Thanks
EZrussian 3 years ago
I like the Ultra Edge on everything except the #1 and 000. It seems like the ceramic works well on the #1 and never gets hot, but the ceramic on longer lengths seems like it doesn't carry enough weight to get through hair longer than 1/8 inch.

Nice info.....but I'm going to be sticking to my Oster Power Line for a while.....They're great!

Thanks for the vid slim... How did you get your outliners to cut so sharp. I have the same clipper and they don't cut very well... any ideas? and I have the T-trimmers
tanktube 3 years ago
You can bump the bottom blade. There's a tutorial showing how to do this somewhere on YouTube.

Yo slim thanks for taking time to help educate us interested up and coming barbers...anyways can u include some model numbers for your clippers?
When searching for these products on the net there is some that have multiple models but look similar?
Thanks!

hey i have a question slim
which clipper do u recomend for fades, the fast feed or the masters?
and which one is the best for blending?
thank you.
rances16 3 years ago
I have a new favorite. It's called the Andis Ceramic Select Cut. But out of the Fast Feed or Masters, I'll say the Fast Feed-barely. But I like the Masters for anything besides fading over the fast feed. But now I'm recommending the Select over either one for fading.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
i notice andis have the andis ceramic powerfade also whats the difference bewteen the two? do you think the powerfade is any better then the select cut?
clearstyles 3 years ago
I don't know. They do look exactly the same.

hi slim.i bought oster 76 clipper to cut my own hair. and then i bought #2 blade. my hair is thin. when i cut with #1 my head looked smooth.but when i cut with new #2 blade head doesn't look smooth. some hair stick out just i little bit but i can see it.
what can i do to solve this?i like smooth bold look. and maybe its blade needs adjustment? thank you.
EZrussian 3 years ago

1956hardtop 3 years ago

Right now I got 3 fill in barbers and one other full timer and that's about as much as I need right now. My father in law needs someone ASAP though and he's in Chicago proper at Model Barber Shop.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
hey would i be good with the andis t-outlinner for a total hair cutt
sosogunner 3 years ago
No. Lining clippers don't have big enough teeth to cut hair. They're made for lining and you can use them to cut the bald part on fades, but only after cutting it down to a 000. You can get away with a Master or Ceramic Select plus an outliner.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
where can i buy the outliners to line up my hair
WotzGud 3 years ago
any barber or beauty supply should carry them.

do you cut your own hair?
neatfreeek 3 years ago
sometimes.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
yo slim can u use clipper guards on the andis masters improved? please respond thanks for the info.
mmx327 3 years ago
Yeah, Andis makes guards for the Master. I recommend the magnetic Andis guards, but the regular ones are OK too.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
caught that BGRC last week or so and i must say it's nice, for it has a good weight/feel to it. i'm liking it so far. it's smaller than my classic 76r, which i put to rest for the time being. the only issue i had was the blades it came with, cause the ceramic blades teeth on both were not straight and the non-movings blade were sketchy aswell, but it aint no thing, some faulty blades pass through every now and then. i called andis then returned them , i'm suppose to get them replaced.

Slim, do you cut your own hair? and, do you ever fade/blend with the clipper guards? I cut my own hair and will use a 1 on the side and then go to a 2etc... as I progress toward a uniform 5/8 length on top. Do you ever fade with clipper guards? if not, why?
b0tchla 3 years ago
I haven't used clipper guards in a long time. I occasionally cut my own hair. I don't use the guards because I use the removable blades that are set to a clipper length. They cut cleaner without leaving much individual hairs sticking out. I used clipper guards when cutting wasn't my job. There's nothing wrong with it, I just prefer the detachable blades.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
I use andis' also...they work great w/ me...I'm just a small time barber i give ppl haircuts n my garage...

andis......... ahhhh you sold out didn't you
nice.......i wonder how much you got!
lol

no money has ever exchanged hands. Andis just has the nicest tools, especially ever since Oster started making 76's in China (so I'm told they're made in China now, but whatever the reason, the quality on the 76's dropped off A LOT). I never would have tried the BGR's if my last 2 sets of 76's weren't total crap. Thank god they were, because I love the BGR's.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
i need the andis
BGR+
thannnnnnnnnksssssss SLIM!
realtruthbih 3 years ago
I got the T-Outliners and it seems like nomatter how new the blade is, the lines are never as crisp as a barbers even if we use the same trimmers. I've been told that I may need to adjust them. What does it mean to adjust the liners/blades?
oharmon 3 years ago
You can "bump" the blades by taking the blade apart and pushing the bottom blade up so the teeth don't overlap each other. Be careful because if the bottom teeth come out farther than the top, you will cut people. Test it on yourself first.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
ey yo slim
which are better for bald fades?
the classic 76's or the masters?
FlipBOXfan281713 3 years ago
If you have to get 1 or the other, get the Masters. If you don't have lining clippers to finish off the fade, get Fade Masters.

Slim, what are the curved cutting combs you are using dude?
mal310 3 years ago
they are either Andis or Marvy flat top combs that I curve myself.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
Slim, what method is the best to warm the combs before bending?
mal310 3 years ago
hot water, bend while it's hot and then cool it off while it's bent.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
Cheers slim been waiting for this. Andis is big in the U.S but here in England they are not as mainstream. Cannot get the bgrc or family over here.
Great informative video!
mal310 3 years ago
Hi Mal310 im wanting to get the same equiptment the antis masters will they get that line out from razor short to a one if so will they work on our uk power?
GiveMeMyMoneyBack 3 years ago
Hi GMMMB, I bought the bgr+ and a converter 240-110 that just plugs into the wall socket. It didn,t need to be a big one, only 45 watts and so was only a fiver. The clippers work a dream and so I also bought a power lead that is supposed to be for the Agr+ that are the only Andis we can buy here. It just popped right in and worked.
mal310 3 years ago
were can you get these clippers at?
skeet530 3 years ago
Big up for this video B..
PhillyBluntz00 3 years ago
but y do u use the bgrc's? they dont have a lever on the side of it so wouldnt it make it harder to fade with?
greateststyle 3 years ago
That's what I use the fast feed or Master's for. But a few times our power has gone out and I've done complete bald fades with just the BGR+. It took a little more concentration to blend the 000 to the 0, but it still looked the same.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
Have you used the "Andis Fade Master" yet? They got a blade with size #00000 (1/25") to size #000(1/100" let me know what you think...Peace.
PhillyBluntz00 3 years ago
No, I've never used them. I've seen them, but I just use the liners for anything less than 000. I hear good things about them though.
slimthebarber 3 years ago
Thanks, Slim. Taking my board exam April 28th. It's good to get some info from someone that uses these clippers everyday. Looking in to getting the gray Andis for myself.
