Hey, I think that your hair is fabulous. Is lengthy hair genetic in your family? Also, how often do you trim you ends? I have very coarse hair and over the years I've had struggles with my hair. When I was younger my mother decided to relax my hair, but didn't teach me how to maintain and she didn't either so now after all sorts of damage from braids and chemicals, I want my hair to grow long and thick, do you have any suggestions?

Hey, I'm going with between 8 and 12 weeks since it is really lightly processed. Since I am doing it myself I want to keep the new growth to a thickness I can handle. My last stretch was 16 weeks but that was not planned.

I try to keep my new growth moisturized while stretching to prevent breakage, also when I'm far into a stretch I protective style as much as possible. The scarf method is a really good way of laying down my new growth so it's flat and neat.

Thanks! how long are you leaving the relaxer on? are you applying it yourself? I use a lye relaxer and that doesn't happen, maybe you're getting the relaxer on your scalp which is causing burning. I would suggest looking at how you're applying it, if all is fine with your method then it could be the relaxer is too strong

Nope, I don't think you should. Relaxers are permenant and it's hard for a lot of ppl to transition back. Plus you may regret it, you're only 14. I say if you still want one when your older, then try it, but for now I would say stay away...lol
I'm getting a perm on tuesday after about 8 weeks or so and this time around i wanted to start stretching doing it the right way with deep conditioning and things like that but how long after you get a relaxer do you start your routine? Like after a perm how long after that do you start applying castor oil and moisturizer and things like that.
My routine is ongoing, so I'm always doing it...I don't apply castor oil to my scalp b/c it'll weigh my hair down, I do massage JBCO to my edges 3x a wk though. I moisturize my hair nightly, so once I finished the relaxer process and it's time to wrap it up I'll moisturize my ends only b4 doing so...HTH!
