Buddy Guy has been called the bridge between the blues and rock and roll. He is one of the historic links between Chicago electric blues pioneers Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf and popular musicians like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page as well as later revivalists like Stevie Ray Vaughan. Vaughan stated that, "Without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan."
is that ken norton on the drums? buddy makes it sing......Oh God how it sings. These guys can't be touched--- see where Hendrix got it from......Buddy Guy, Johnny Guitar Watson, etc.
@Toronzo It's amazing to me how few drummers can actually do this without changing it or adding some bullshit!!.. And if the excuse is "it's boring", then quit playing...
We saw Buddy play last night in Virginia Beach. It's like going to church. He played thru the crowd and made his way up to the second floor balcony of the Sandler Center. Buddy never stopped smiling and neither did I. Heading to Chicago next month and 754 S. Wabash is on my itinerary.
Buddy was here in my town last wknd. Older, slower but all there! what a show The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in fredericton, NB Canada. He used to come by the Riverboat Club in Yorkville, Toronto about the same vintage as this Vid. I worked there as a bus boy and saw and heard fantastic chops every wknd evening. Thanks for the post. Great.
This is a true double shuffle and, Damn, nobody shuffles like like Buddy. I covered this same version on my last album, "The Blues Never Hurt So Good"
thats my love right there, the blues,i wonna be the next buddy guy.The blues starts straight from yourself, the heart and soul, honest, strength and perseverence.
unbelievably insanely fantastic !!!!!! thank you

Check out the drum fills on the turnaround. Just a driving snare. Awesome. None of those rock fills on the toms. The drive stays intact!
I remember first hearing that on old Magic Sam records.
