It's such a shame the Dreamcast didn't do as well after it's opening week.

Sold out in just it's first week. Had the best good games/bad games ration of any console and was able to connect to the internet before anyone else.

If I didn't love DVD's so much I'd accuse the Playstation 2 of causing it's downfall.

Really? I enjoyed a lot of Sega ads, including this one and Segata Sanshiro (which is one of the best commercial series ever) and I always hated the Sony ads, which are very nonsense and not fun at all.

the funny thing is, this is how sony are. they take other`s ideas, sonyfy them and makes it theirs. playstation was originally nintendo`s idea that they consulted Sony with, they however scrapped the idea because of the slower reading speed and Sony finished the idea alone

The PS2 was better than dreamcast because of the dvd feature. In japan at that time, PS2 played dvd's straight out of the box. If only dreamcast had a dvd player it would have lasted longer. I Miss the old dreamcast days.

It was easier to develop games on Dreamcast as it was backed by a Windows CE system. Kind of fucked up X-Box stole its thunder.

It's debatable... I mean, there are games for PS2 that look better than Dreamcast games as well as vice versa.

Early on, at least, developers may have had a rough time dealing with the way PS2 handles things. Different architecture, not as easy to program for at first. Textures and filtering looked better on the DC, due to built in compression and, in the beginning, better anti-aliasing/texture filtering.

Easy. PS2 had a little more ram, and had dvd media. More room for graphics and gameplay. Sorry, but the dreamcast did not have the graphics that the ps2 did. You just couldn't get those graphics on the DC. However, the dreamcast had a closed beta dvd player addon. It was to be released to the public, but it was too late by then.

both were 128-bit, they weren't that far off power-wise. the dreamcast had more dedicated video ram than ps2, but ps2 had more overall system ram, a few million more polygons a second than Sega. The PS2 was only more successful due it's massive hype and the fan-base built by the original console. Larger selection of games but a larger selection of shit ones also

I would love for them to do that. They're bound to have accumulated a good deal of money from being a Publisher and Developer for some really great games in the past 8 years (at the most). I'm sure there'd be a fan-base that would back it up too, wanting actual Video Game companies making consoles instead of Multi-dimensional, Multi-Million dollar companies.

Could someone PLEASE tell me why everyone says Sony had better marketing during this era? I mean honestly, I don't remember more than a couple PlayStation 2 commercials (Metal Gear Solid and one other one), yet I remember seeing and LOVING every Dreamcast commercial which came on. Sega had poor marketing? They had the BEST! Genesis and Dreamcast-era Sega commercials are some of the most entertaining commercials I've ever seen, and they were on often. What gives?

i think the dreamcast could hold its own today with HD graphics, add a harddrive,put in blu-ray and continue the online gaming and tweek the controller a little bit and i think that the dreamcast would give microsoft, sony, n possibly nintendo a run for their money (even tho it wont happen)
