Most bar bands I know can't improvise their way out of a paper bag, let alone the way that Phish does. That and having a completely different show every night sets them apart from most bar bands, I think. If you're looking for stronger lyrics, listen to Farmhouse or Billy Breathes. Good introspective shit there. The reason that some of their lyrics seem a little weird or esoteric is because they delight in not taking themselves seriously, which is a uniquely Phish thing.

This is the best shot video of a Phish concert I've ever seen. It's awesome to see this much crowd footage, it's the right mix of seeing the guys play and seeing the crowd jibboo right along with them. It captures the Phish experience!
