to get details on google: Batterie de Longues sur Mer seven years ago i was over there. it was verry interresting to know that the fireleading bunker was used in the D-day movie: the scene with the sentinel who is calling " they are comming " was filmed in this bunker.
Visited the bunker complex at Longueville about 10 years ago I hear that they've stopped access to the control bunker at the cliff edge due to erosion of the cliff. That's a great pity as i was very impressed with it at the time. Despite all the bombs and shells the concrete was barely shipped. The Germans certainly built things to last....
I just finished and posted my first YouTube video, for you to see as we have walked along just about the same paths......I want to go again and get a lot more footage. Two full days would be nice, the weather and the tide should be taken in consideration. In full season would be quite crowded, spring and fall would be a better choice.
Hi 75mirabelle, thankyou for your service in Korea. My Father was drafted during that war and was stationed in Alsaka. I'm happy and surprised by how many hits this video has. I'm so glad I had the chance to visit such hallowed ground. It's such a powerful place. I'll never forget walking through row after row of graves, a 22 year old from CA, a 25 year old from NY, an 19 year old from PA. These brave young men laid down their lives, these brave young men saved the world.
Hi !....More people of this younger generation should visit these places and try to feel what it must have been to walk into a wall of bullets.....I am a Korean vet (52-53) but in 44 I was a young 15 yrs.. old boy in France...by the Atlantic Wall.....with minefields and bunkers left and right !!!! I am preparing a 6 minute video of my 2010 trip there for you and I will post it as soon as it is ready, We have walked the same paths...
I was there 6 months ago....This is all genuine stuff. Thank you for posting this video. You are trying to inform people and some have the nerve to say it's not a bunker !.......as if you invented it !!! I was in France in 44 and I know what a german bunker looks like.....!!!!! ahhhhhh
I bet they were thinking "oh shit..." I'm the proud grandson of a WWII vet. He served in Army Airforce Intel. I think he was under Gen. Patton, but I'm not sure. Sadly he passed away a couple of years back. He was one of my heroes growing up. I miss him.
thank you guys i'm really interested, i'm going on tour about a couple weeks. als i like it al cause i work in Ouistreham on a dutch dredging vessel so sometimes i go off board i look in the street you still see manholes filled with concret.
@sebastiaan0sailorman I visited the site where he was, it was a German Battery that was a few miles up the coastline from the invasion beaches themselves. On the bunkers themselves you can still see craters from where the shells from the cruisers out in the channel had made direct hits. This particular battery, I forget its name exactly, took several days to be knocked out. Hope this helps!

We actually went to see this very site in 1981. My grandfather was a captured p.o.w. It's a very eerie feeling knowing what happened on the soil we stood on.
do you know whats the name of that cannon? I've been trying to search for it but I can only find it under "German bunker" and for some reason none of the searches that I do gives me the name of that cannon.
Yes I said, "The guide told me all about it". What is your point? I know the history of D-Day. I didn't know exact distances the guns shot from those bunkers...The guide told me all about it.

Longues sur Mer Battery, 4 casemates with cannon, and a forward observation post on the cliff edge.
There are Tobruk machine guns posts here too further down the coast path near the observation post.
thnx for posting
