    It's a method of......modern loooove!

  • This guy always reminds me of Bobby Wheeler from 'Taxi.'

  • Este Tema Si Sono En Carolina Fm 93.7

  • I remember seeing this video when the album first came out. My little brother and I always loved that guitar part near the beginning of the song when G.E. Smith hurls his guitar through H&O's skylight. Great vid!! The band looks as if they had fun making the video too.

  • great great song

  • Great group and song. Thanks for posting.

  • I think their reputation for being lightweight and silly comes directly from their stupid videos. What the hell has any of this weirdness got to do with the song? Not saying it should have bee serious and in black and white, but this takes away from the song.

  • @DSDMovies MOST videos from the 80's look like this. Don't take my word for it. Go look at them. If you were a smart artist, you made cheap videos. Why would you spend millions and millions of dollars on a video that comes out of your pocket? In the 90's many artists made expensive videos and are now broke because of it.

  • You know whats crazy... back in the day if you had a favorite part of a song on 8 track you had to listen to it then reset the entire track to wait another couple minutes for the same part of the song to come up again. There was no way to rewind the 8 tracks back then. Then the cassette players came out and changed everything. You could even record radio songs if you were fast enough to run to the radio and hit the record key.

Man I miss the 80s LOL!

  • I didnt know Nick Clegg was a singer in the 80s

  • Hall & Oates get *really* drunk and then do this song; are they trying to tell us something? ;)

  • THIS TAKES ME BACKT O HIGH SCHOOL the 80s is the coolest er ever There will never be a decade like it again. 1984 was the shit I was 13!!

  • @carmelgoddess612 me too! great timez indeed..and adult education

  • im 15...i love oldies 60,70,80,90

  • John oates reminds me of the 118 118 guys.. from the UK adverts

  • I went to the concert with my mom!! LOL!! I was 15 and nobody wanted to go see these guys with me... General Public "Tenderness" , they opened up for them, and the blonde from MTV was there.. cant remember his name, but it was like an awesome show! My mom loved it!! I caught John's sweat towel as they walked back stage. Lol!! I kept it for many years.. Now Im 42, and I like the songs still but only because it takes me back to yesteryear. ;)

  • @Brwneydgrl69 I went with my mom to see them in 1985. I didn't know how she would react since she was kind of a prude back then but at the end of the concert she was practically standing on her chair screaming her lungs out like a teenager.

  • This album still sounds good because the production was so great.

  • Put them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Already Dammit!!

  • 0:58 They kind of remind me of Bert & Ernie from Sesame Street.

  • 1985- junior year at Cherry Hill HS East in Jersey..... H&A were the shit in their hometown of Philly........ totally dug this and The Hooters......

  • He is killing this song at the end!!!! LOVE IT!! These were some singing ass white dudes!!

  • If everybody jumped off a building into the clouds would you jump too?

  • After 27 years, the verdict is the same: terrible song; great video.

  • I love these guys !!!

  • Let me hitch a ride on that time machine. I need to go down to the corner and get a Frank's black cherry soda and a pack of real Tastykakes

  • great fucking quality!

  • love this song... an underappreciated gem

  • the Dynamic Duo strikes again. This time At Liberty State Park New York City When They played this song the traffic stopped on the New Jersey Turnpike People were cheering Louder there than at a Yankees, Red-Sox Game. The

cheering could be heard all the way into Staten Island N.Y. Liberty State Park

was Rocked To It's Knees Forever. There was no escape for even Lady Liberty

  • M.E.T.H.O.D. Man!

  • I love this song! Man i wish i grew up in the 80's...i love Daryl's rap-like ad lib near the end the most.

  • Daryll Hall And John Oates Lo Mejor Me Encantan Sus Exitos

  • Daryll Hall And John Oates Lo Mejor

  • Lo Maximo Daryll Hall And John Oates

  • Great song !!!!!

  • I used to love this song back in the 80's - Big Bam Boom was probably H&O's best album of the 80's and probably their last big one of that decade - after this album, Daryl went solo and rolled closer to rock & roll, which didn't work...............

  • I Love It!!!! It takes me back!!!!

  • Notice John Oates swimming in the clouds at the end of this video. In light of that, does this song remind you of swimming, or does swimming remind you of this song?

  • I looked for this song for 10 years, not knowing who the artist was or the song title.

  • The video is still just as funny and cute as I remember it

  • was does Daryll look like Bobby Flay's from #foodnetwork?

  • I use to see this Music Video on Night Tracks on SuperStation WTBS and America's Top 10 w/Casey Kasem

    Hall & Oates are AWESOME

  • wtf this is the first time i heard this song and ithink it's great!

  • An incredible amount of great songs came out between 81-86. It was also a great time to be alive in the USA. This video kind of sucks azz but the song is incredible.

  • Wu-Tang - M.E.T.H.O.D Man

  • The 80s when music was still fun and we still lived in a fairly sane world...YES please finish the time machine I'll the first to volunteer!

  • @genki007 I'll build the flux capacitor.

  • @genki007 Oh, I sure agree with you on that one!

  • daryl needs to clone himself

  • I want what they're drinking

  • Say all you want about Hall & Oates, as it's easy to make fun of those from the past, but they rocked the airwaves back in 80's. Great memories.

  • This song reminds me of the best radio station in Central America, was in Guatemala City --- F. M. 95 -- The Super Station. the best times ever !!! 80's

  • We're so lucky that we had all of this great music of the 80's. I do want to go back...

  • Everybody's hard as iron, locked in a modern world, dreams are made from different stuff. That's some helluva writing.

  • blue eyed soul at its best!

  • Best part of the video at 4:46.

  • oh yes this what im talking about, "M.E.T.E.D.A.D.S its a method of metedads" i love this i think the 60s were the best!!! this band are currently performing at Bungay hippodrome in bungay, im going tonight with my friend Josh "the face" Bingo who reckons he once caught a bear using nothing but a polo and 5 spiders, i say "shut up josh bingo you twat" but he then tells me he is dating Jet from gladiators and that they make love on the travelator

  • Also this was such a killer song. It had so many elements to it. I'm surprised more music artists don't point out the importance of this song. A white guy who was told he wasnt supposed to do soul actually did the melodic rap thing too. I wore out my cassette so bad that the tape stretched on this particular track.

Oh and the guitar in the extended version was killer.

  • I really think that Flight of the Conchords modeled some of their act from Hall and Oates. Part of their vibe just seems to feel like like it haha. The mannerisms. I know Hall was in an episode.

  • so far [ 2 ] dislikes. See h0w modern media destroy's what's real ? Shout out to all 125 likes thus far.

  • i think i could easly make a long car night trip in summer with this song on the radio

  • @lancezimmerman I was thinking the same thing. Now I want some studded bracelets, too.

  • I remember some comedian back then saying the song sounded like someone reading an eye chart, heh heh.

  • dam i want a mullet now

  • just a great song. beautiful.

  • damn i wish i could bring the 80's back...unfortunately i wasnt around then :(

  • My favorite song when i was in elementary school! I kept a blank cassette in my radio and I used to wait until they would play it and I would record it.

  • @mycorolla07 Right on!

  • method man m.e.t.h.o.d. man

  • METHODOFLOVE! Share my life with You a thousand miles away ;o)

  • METHODOFLOVE!

  • 25 years later, this song and it message are surprisingly timely, in the age of Twitter and Match.com. And the proto-hip-hop groove still holds up.

If there's one song that begs to be covered by a modern artist, this is it: paging Ne-yo or Alicia Keys?

  • i heard this song on the radio tonight and was dying to find out what it was, so i looked up the lyrics and found out that it was H&O. it so just figures. i love them! <3

  • i like the song and it's groove

  • Count me in Ed....much better days gone by

  • This was my favorite song when I was in the 5th grade.

  • @mycorolla07 6th grade for this codger : )

  • Its funny at the beginning when the guy throws the guitar in the window, I guess thats one way of getting undivided attention

  • I Love This Daryl Hall And John Oates 1985 Music Video, "Method Of Modern Love," Which Became A Top 5 Hit In America.

  • Freakin' MULLETS RULE!!!!!!

  • dude's got smoke comin out his sax

  • I like it

  • @parkardenal Me too

  • Awesome video thanks for posting!

  • Eternal, a part of the soundtrack of our lives!!!

    Blessings to H & O!!!

  • I have always been a Hall & Oats fan since the 70's! I love this song, but have to admit the video was goofy, but it was the 80's, and music videos could be a bit out there. I still love them 80's though!!!

  • @JoviMoon I agree - alot of whacky 80s videos out there but this is a great tune. There are no time machines but youtube replays of these classic songs are as close to a time machine as you can get. For a moment I can close my eyes and be 24 years old again - then my wife yells at me to take out the trash LoL

  • Daryl got soul...Daryl got sout...Daryl got soul!!!!!

  • This is the best Hall & Oates song of all time,in my opinion!

  • I think Daryl's got one of my old jackets on. I love this video! Don't mess with imperfection. More like "perfection," actually. 30 years later, and I love these guys even more!

  • "It's a Method of Modern LOVE"!

    Cat Daddy:)

  • he buscado tanto esta cancion que me trae tan buenos recuerdos , es una musica realmente buena !

  • G.E. Smith!!! whoa! from SNL band!!

  • M-E-T-H-O-D MAN!!!!!!

  • Hey Ed !! Let me pack a small bag and I'm with ya !

  • Great song!

  • Hit #5 in Billboard for Daryl and John.

  • The best !!!

  • Great Song, saw Hall & Oates 7 times in concert.

  • For me,this is the best song of HALL & OATES....one of the 80's classic!!!!

  • ... don't mess with sufi and other isms... charming video... I'm going to need to play it all over again and agin

  • Love Hall and Oates-Excellent song-One of my favorites

  • excelente cancion !!

  • Love the 80's

    Love Hall and Oates

  • yes!!hall and oats r everything the 80s stood for!

  • Thanks for posting !!! Great song !

  • Daryll Hall raps more in this song (and does so better) than Soulja Boy has done in his whole "career"

  • @ashalchi so true.

  • @ashalchi there is no rap in this song trust me

  • @TheSoloAsylum why would i trust you on what constitutes rap? I was listening to rap when it first started and I know what it is. btw it's rather telling that Method Man used the chorus of this song as his anthem...and i believe Method Man is rapping. You probably don't think Blondie rapped either in that one song?...in fact it was the first rap ever in a mainstream song. besides commercial/mainstream rappers dont sing or rap...they just talk.

  • @ashalchi Blondie was not rapping........and the song you speak of is called "Rapture" She had no idea at the time what kids today would say about her music> I have even heard of Elvis rapping........he did no such thing

  • @ashalchi Are you serious??? You call what Soulja Boy does RAP??

  • @ashalchi DAMN! THAT WAS GOOD!!! LOL,,,ROTF

  • Man those guys were havin' fun in this video!

  • I worked as Storyboard Artist for this video back in 84, with PMI and jeff Stein. this and Out of Touch. Great memories!

  • Man I envy you!!!

  • Yes, of course. And i can fly.Fantastic!!!! BTW I was a close friend of Oates in the 80s.

  • I love how the beginning sounds like one of those Jackson (MJ or JJ) where they talk over top of it. "Baby, since you came into my life... things have changed..." Haha!

Seriously, though... with this song and "Out Of Time," Big Bam Boom wa H&O's most complex album to that point. It may seem like a funny thing to say about popsters, but take this song: That C/D-/B flat progression is pretty bad ass. (I think that's what it is, off the top of my head.)

You can't do that in music anymore.

  • You can still do that! It takes some great creativity! Which is sadly lacking these days! Somebody bring these Artists back in the mainstream PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • not that I have a clue what you're saying here but why "can't you do that anymore in music" exactly? hope this isn't too dumbass a question

  • Of course you can do it. Good luck getting someone to release it. If you follow pop music these days (and bear in mind... H&O were pop, back then), there's nothing clever, fun and interesting like this these days. Even on smaller, "independent" labels, you don't hear anything this dynamic. So what I'm saying is... you can DO this kind of music... for your friends and family. Good music doesn't make it to the mainstream anymore. Or can you come up with counterexamples?

  • Not meaning to sound like this response is glib but I guess it always comes back to your way of conceiving, defining and presenting -- it's a total package so eve the delivery might impact the effect on the recipient... I wonder if this is going through to final execuiton... I can do it for Yu and You can do it for Uself

  • I got the method baby and it's right on time...

  • Where's E.T. flying across the moon?

Is that George Smith goin sick on that antenna with the flying V? Or is it... Leatherface? Muahahahaaa.

I love Daryl's spin at 1'32". You can only do that in a baby blue blazer!

What are they doing up there as the cast of Stomp, with that weird industrial set that looks like the cover of "The Process" by Skinny Puppy?

Isn't it amazing how sweet and goofy the music was back then?... and so were we!

What a GREAT song, by the way! Nice changes!

  • speak for yourself, I'm still both sweet and goofy

  • Well, i am working on a time machine to go back in my life in the 80s. someone wanna follow ...?

  • @EdZimmerman I eagerly await my boarding pass.

  • @EdZimmerman:

Oh, to re-live my childhood! Voltron, He-Man, She-Ra, Punky Brewster, My Little Pony, Headbanger's Ball, Soul Train, American Bandstand, Solid Gold, Dance Fever, & (most importantly) KUNG FU MOVIES!!!

Hurry up & finish that time machine. There's a package of Hostess Choco Bliss with my name on it!

  • @SpankRamen2 i'm with you 100% esp. the Kung Fu dont forget Atari & NES, bmx biking and skateboarding! and Thundaar the Barbarian! and pegging those jeans haha

  • @SpankRamen2 LOL!Ahhhhh Yeaaah!Take me back to the care free,gold ol days!

  • @SpankRamen2 No kidding! I wish I was smart enough to invent a time machine. I can remember watching all those great cartoons, fragil rock, mtv(when they played videos), great tv shows, etc. Hall & Oates were pretty much my childhood. I can't believe these guys aren't in the rock n' roll hall of fame.

  • @SpankRamen2 Man I loved Choco Bliss!!

  • @EdZimmerman RIGHT BEHING YA! : )

  • @EdZimmerman RIGHT BEHIND YA! : )

  • @EdZimmerman i'm first in line already

  • @EdZimmerman sign me up quickly!!! ;-D

  • @EdZimmerman let's go

  • Ojala vuelvan los ochenta, pero lamentablemente tuvo su ciclo.
