  • this is dumb!

  • Does it happen to you to meet people pissed because you draw them or their kids or wife in public places ?

  • Question. I don't like using sketchbooks, because the grain is too rough. I like using mechanical pencil, I prefer it. I have more drawings in notebooks than I do in sketchbooks. So back to the QUESTION. Where can I find a sketchbook that has the same texture as copy paper/lined paper. All the ones I find has the same rough grain. What do I look for?

  • 2:50 - 3:07 LOL that's good stuff XD

  • where are you from?

  • if i was in a forgien country, it would be easy for me.

  • Ridiculous! 100's of dollars for a Sketchbook and a pen? RI-DI-CU-LOUS!!!!

  • @primaryspiral dude did you even listen..that's his, he is not encouraging no one to buy those expensive things..he was basically saying the key to knowing how to draw is draw.but you do the the materials which is just a pencil and a paper.

  • @PrinceDreLance HA HA, you're funny.

  • "Indication" xD

  • Sheldon, now you don't need a sketchbook, just need a IPAD. The ipad, sketchbook pro, artrage and a stylus will give you everything you need to explore and maximize your creativity. If you like the ipod you gonna love the ipad. Keep in mind. Thanks I really like this video ;)

  • @MyRober1234 Dude, you don't need any of those. All you need is a pencil, a piece of paper and your imagination.

  • What about the people who can just draw with no guidelines or form? Do you think they took these classes and techniques and just developed the ability to draw without them? I feel like they skipped all these steps you're telling us we need to take.

  • Your sketch book is like the best Idea I have ever seen. I am so going to save up for one. It has everything. If I am upset with a drawing then I can toss it with out riping apart my sketch book. I get so upset and hard on myself because of it. I am a marker lover so being able to put what paper I want inside of it is a freedom all on its own. I do draw everyday I started Drawing Tutorials online and I see my improvement in just 3 days. Your right draw everyday and live in your sketchbook!

  • Hey there, nice sketches!

Friends please checkout My Sketchbook and tell me how it is.

It's a Video in my profile named 'My SketchBook' Check out.

  • lmao i love you. "I'm tired of people coming up to me all the time and telling me how SEXY i am. This takes their eyes off of my perfect male body.." Gorgeous pen and personality. And gorgeous body I'm sure. Very nice video :D

  • My art teacher says that it's wasteful to throw away drawings you may have "messed up", cause you dont learn from your mistakes you just throw it away.

  • Some of these comments are hilarious. He clearly says in the video that using an expensive drawing tool doesn't help you draw better. You don't need an expensive pen, and he's not telling you to buy one. Also, the bag isn't expensive. It carries everything you need and is designed to be more useful than any normal sketchbook. You'd save tons of money filling it with cheap photocopy paper. The bag is for serious artists who draw A LOT. You'd spend tons more on moleskines to get the same mileage.

  • I'd rather *invest* in my talent/craft with a good sketchbook/portfolio that stores all of my pens/pencils that will take the beating of traveling around with me every single day **for years** than to be cheap and spend less than $40 on something that will tear apart in less than 6 months. One thing I would add, though: I'd put my portfolio items in mylar sleeves to protect them from dirt and dirty fingers leafing through my book.

  • Love the videos, keep them coming, you've helped me get back into art...I'm going to bring my sketch book everywhere, as I did before (: Thank you Sheldon

  • No!!!!!!!!!!!1

Buy there is a saying in traditional art.

"it is very difficult to do good work with the best of tools"

I do try to get the best tools on the market as well as over 1000 books

    in my library.

In the end it is the knowledge and practice that makes good drawing and painting.

    Hope this helps

    Take care

    Sheldon

  • Do you just... buy expensive stuff?

  • You guys are very funny.

I draw with a cheap sketchbook and ball point pen.

I also have very expensive art supplies.

But hey..... I am a career artist and have been collecting stuff my

    entire life.

    Have fun

    Sheldon

  • @sheldonsartacademy i don't even really care to have an expenisive pens or stuff im 13 and am just lucky when i have money to buy a sketchbook.

  • whatare brushe pens ??

  • lol, I get the same thing ,"what are you drawing with?" ....silly people

  • I don't agree....You don't need to prove anything to anybody, its your sketchbook! You can have a pencil that is a dollar and do amazing work! you can have a 10 dollar sketchbook and do wonders!!! AND there are cheaper carry kits! why should we spend over hundred when we can spend under 50? we can even make our own. But you don't need to prove anything to anyone.

  • @StephieLockdown I've bought this, and every art interview i have they request or nicely ask if they can look in my sketchbook! this bag has saved me time and time again because i have the ability to pick and chose. yes a sketchbook is self study, but in no way is it a private diary. So to say you don't need to prove anything is true unless you want to be paid for what you love to do. -i've done the cheep route, yes it works - but after i bought it i no longer need to worry about forgetting stuf

  • "people come to me all the time and start telling me how sexy i am"

    MODEST !

  • better solution

buy a 20$ bag or something of your choice

buy a 15$ dollars sketch book

buy one of those 10$ collection of pencils and stuff for sketching

and done there, i saved you 60$

now donate give them to me

  • @hajar9911 Your solution is way better!! :)

  • so you draw in your sketchbook ?

  • Its a nice message...but it feels like one giant brag. :C

  • @StudioVibe it WAS one giant brag.

  • $600??? the f-... okay guys... i dont think its necessary to get an expensive ink pen to draw or a $100+ sketchbook.. all u need is a pencil n paper and practise drwing everyday.

  • @extrememonaXXX

    LOL

The video said that you DO NOT need a expensive pen.

    Practice your fundamentals.

I draw with cheap ball point pens.

Take care and lets talk soon

    Sheldon

  • @sheldonsartacademy So, I know this video is really old so I don't really expect a response, but why do you draw with pens instead of pencils? Just a personal preference? I can't imagine not being able to erase a mistake...

  • worst how to ever. worst than expert village.

  • Oh my gosh I don't even know you. But you seem annoying. BUT YOUR ART IS AMAZING. You just get on my nerves. :D

  • i couldnt tell if he was beeing sarcastic or if he really spent 600 dollars for a pen 0.0

  • @80VAIN08 He really did. $600 pens are a real thing. They get more expensive than that. Some people like fine luxury pens, just like how some people like fine gold, silver, and diamond jewelry, which can cost well into the thousands.

Personally, I think the idea of spending hundreds of thousands on a sportscar seems more absurd. To each his own.

  • The most I'll ever spend on acaketchbook is $17 on a moleskine

  • can you translate to spanish ? please i cant understand you, because i cant speak I can not speak good English... but i know but I see that these teachings are good... please... even write it in Spanish... thanks ....

  • I'm glad that you like the bag. It can be purchased on our website at sheldonsartacademy . com

  • ok i like the book bag where can i get one???

  • $8 8.5x11 canson sketchbook, $1 cheapass pencil case. >_____> Not too difficult to take everywhere.

I generally don't like to hate, but I'm not partial to money-grabs either. (though I'll admit that that's one hell of a sexy pen. Whatever gets ya drawing.)

The message, however, is good: Draw constantly.

  • its a nice bag and all but not for 150 dollors

  • This solution bag is the real deal, I need one asap.

  • Haha, .......U must have money to BURN, ..$600 for a fountain pen and a $121 portfolio drawing pad....your crazy.

And 2 years to design and real leather, give me a break, all i wanna do is draw not go out and show off a flashy drawing pad.

God i cannot listen to this crap

  • @steveis33 thats his way of doing it maybe he saved for the pen a sketch book hes not trying to show off a fancy drawing pad he made it to his liking

  • I can't tell if the enormous ego is a joke or not.

  • this guy knows how to teach its not about the product its about drawing and studying your craft every hour of everyday rock on sheldon

  • I can't see how this bag took over 2 years to design and why it costs such a lot of money. It seems far too big to be practical, too. A small sketchbook you can carry around is far better for on the go drawing.

  • how to use a sketchbook: Draw in it.

  • u must love art

  • the fact that someone comes up to me and ask me what I'm drawing makes me not want to draw in public...although I would love to draw outside

  • what kind of paper is that

  • "i'm tired of people coming up to me and telling me how sexy i am..." LOL Sheldon!!!

  • i draw alot at my church and i cant tell u how many times ive had 4 or 5 ppl come up too me and just watch me or start talking about me drawing. its so annoying!

  • Are you an illustrator?

  • I have been lacking in my sketchbook drawings, because i cant afford one. So I stick with my wacom and digital art :(.

  • i dont get it....is he trying to sell the bag or teach us how to draw?...

  • @CONANisthebestGOCOCO sell the bag :P all his sketching was just to show you how easy it is to use the damn thing. at least to me its all about selling his product.

  • @CONANisthebestGOCOCO He's doing both. Deal. :/

  • Good point, i'm left handed. Would I just push all the paper over and work from the back? Or use it upside-down? BTW, all these people comparing the price of this bag to a sketchbook...way off track. It is a BAG, people, with modular components. And, you're going to go through dozens of 10-20 dollar sketchbooks where this, you just buy paper and punch holes in it. I can get a ream of cheap drawing paper for about 6 dollars.

  • @wendyc1276 or you could buy a binder from walmart and get the same effect :D

  • @wendyc1276 im left handed too. good point about the bag i wouldint even thought about that

  • I like the way you talk and you take care of your things.

  • Sheldon...found the satchel/sketchbook, and it is perfect, I want it. I would pair it up with the Rollabind sketchbook from Villpu. I love how you can customize it and just take what you need. Putting this on my wishlist for my birthday! Thanks for such a cool design.

  • Hello sir , I am a student studing for Architecture , and i was truly amazed watching this video. All though i would love to know the name of the tool that u used in the 13th minute , a pen that gives the water color finishing . Do you call it "Brush tip pen"?

  • you really made me think. I love to draw but im so afarid to get it wrong. but now, i´ll go and draw and draw and draw :)

  • Keep it up Sheldon this guy knows what he's talking about

  • Seems that all the haters in the comments are all people who probably can't draw worth a damn and then tell us how to spend our money. Typical of them, really.

  • I wanna be like you when I get OLD! =D

  • first off...who and the hell would spend 600 dollars on a fukn pen...and 100 and some dollars on a sketch pad...sounds more like this dude is trying to sell something then teach something...im sorry but this guys sounds like a fukn moron...hey does that pen have a built in dildo...if so shuv it up your anal bud

  • Im halfway the video but I gotta go drawing now, laters dude and thanks!

  • why is this video so long???

  • humble you sir

  • Perfect.

    You are so correct.

As long as my students are drawing, I am happy.

I do prefer cheat ball point pens.

    Take care

    Sheldon

  • Seriously... all you need is a $5 sketchbook, a kneaded eraser, and pack of #2 pencils. Then you need to fill the sketchbook, buy another and repeat till you finish all the pencils. Then get another pack of pencils...

  • Yeah i could buy a zipper binder for 6 dollars and put paper with holes in there and in the binder pockets i can put the supplies and together i spend 6 -8 dollars.

  • Amazing sketchbook and great sketchbook case. Dang, now I want one of those.

  • very very nice video, it inspired me to make one from old belts, bags, fabric...

I'll see how it works hehe =)

  • I want that pen give it to me gimme gimme gimme

  • lol sexy sketchbook!

  • I love your humor sir.

  • where can i find a three ringed sketchbook?

  • i want to draw better and i draw 6 hours a day =l

  • @tromp360 Just keep on trucking! It'll come C: I can promise you that, at one point I hated everything I drew, but it's getting better, and that's after three years of drawing off and on throughout the day XD

  • We had notebooks like that in school. Five bucks.

  • 600 DOLLARS!!!!!...oh gee

  • "The secret to drawing, is to draw"

If I wanted to be original, do I draw what I see, or just draw?

  • @Lydomina Well as a personal experience, first you have to draw what you see for example you wanna draw super heroes, start studying anatomy by copying real human figures then when u get some knowledge you can start imagine a super hero in X position and you start drawing it as u imagine and you will have some anatomy refence in ur memory

  • I agree, the tool is as good as the artist. Yet, there are some extremely crappy tools out there, of course you won't be able to do a beautiful inking with a pen that is always letting escape too much ink, it's mess up your stuff even before it's finished, but still, if you're using something like that you're not very smart ha ha ha.

  • The secret to drawing is to draw...

  • @hasaniguy cuz he has the money...why buy a $10,000 TV when all you do is stare at it, at least he uses it, and gets his moneys worth

  • you're really inspiring.. don't EVER stop!

  • awesome!!!

  • I love your sense of humour! XDD And love your advice! Recently I just got really got interested in drawing, and wanting to get better , and from watching Stephen Silver have started doing life drawing-I love the details you can pick up: things you'd never pick up on your own. I have so much to learn at 20. D:

Anyways just wanted to say I loved the video! And that it inspires me to draw even more! Love the channel!

  • HOW ABOUT A NICE SLAP YOU WILL LEARN SMART MOUTH !

  • "This is for when your bag is pregnant, and this is for when it's not."

    That settles it.

    Best teacher ever.

  • stop trying to sell me a bag to hold paper in. Seriously $129

  • lol ur fantatic. funny and one of the best artists ive seen. a lot of ppl on youtube dont teach well...i'm SOOO glad i found ur channel today :)

  • I have just begun to sketch & watercolor & the video affirms my experiences. You reject what the teacher says and learn the hard way, or you can pick up some really basic concepts & skills. You will draw all the time if you find you LOVE TO DRAW. Practice! Enjoy it! If you hate it, give up. Invest in a few quality supplies after you have used some inexpensive ones to test whether you want to draw. (recycled paper, pencil ) It's a safe place to grow as an artist. Put together your own!

  • @spongebobnik

Thanks for the comment. Rock on!

  • what about a 5 euro A5 block of paper?

i agree with you that you should draw alot, but you should draw everything and observation especially in the beggining.

and please dont rip of all the drawings that you start and you dont like just because a line is off, if its bad go for another one!

  • I did a similar thing Sheldon where I bought a lot of white print paper did tons of drawing's then went to portfolio day at Art Center. Art center and Laguna frowned on me for not have a stable Sketch book. I told them what difference does it make as long as my drawing's are good and they said it's not the industry standard what ever that means. So I don't know what to say, does that mean I have to buy over expensive sketch books and turn those in and I will be looked at as a real artist?

  • @wcbombers21

A sketchbook is really about the getting those bad drawings out. But if you are presenting your work to someone, depending on who it is, they might expect your work to be in a nice bound portfolio, or something they can easily flip though. I use and have both.

  • whats the point of a $600 pen....?

  • @workdatupdo007 The point is it gives the manufacturer $550 profit.

  • How long have you been drawing yo? This is great!

  • @TheBrotherMouzone

    Thanks!

I have been studying drawing since I was 18.

    And I am still learning!

    Its a never ending journey.

  • WOW.....$600.00 fountian pen!!!! My jaw droped.

  • @zekehooper

Yeah, you could say I love fountain pens.

But, its just a tool. I really love drawing with the free pens I steal from hotels.

  • @sheldonsartacademy i have a huge question i wanna now what are you using that looks like water, never seen something like that and looks sso awesome. please answer :)

  • @somaryoma

The thing that i am using to spread the pen ink around is a water brush. They are a lot of fun to use and you can find them at most art supply store.

  • @sheldonsartacademy awesome thanks! :D

  • lol "How sexy i am" :>

    =))))

  • wonderful video! great ideas on using a sketchbook... just curious as to what kind of ink brush pen you are using for the gray washes?

  • That bag is pretty cool!

    Love the details!

  • Your voice is great :}

  • see that's another reason why I don't like to draw and instead opt for photography. my nikon d40 slr camera costs less than that pen.

  • 600 DOLLARS! WHAT!!!!! $146 SKETCHPAD! WHAAT??!

  • Ey!!!! rich dude that knows how to draw!!! lemme hold a dolla!!!!!

lol!! I ain't got no money to buy those expensive stuffs!!!

I'm a 12 years old girl!! ;D lol my teachers, friends, and family always says that I really know how to draw!! I only draw with some basic stuffs!! and I never took any art lessons!! just practiced drawing by my own!! lol good art!!!

  • How far should my head be from the drawing paper when I draw?

  • A really informative video. Thanks.

  • the only thing i dont like is u dont finished ur drawings but theyre really beautiful

  • that just looks like a binder with pockets to put your supplies in...nice artwork, but if you say it materials don't make the artist...can't you just buy a sketchbook for $5 and a box of regular pens for $2?

  • Damn you are dedicated O_O

  • who the hell spends 600$ on a pen that looks nice?

  • I think you just draw in it, right?

  • great idea on the bag

  • I can draw things in motion but I always have a hard time gesturing. I get caught up in trying to get detail. Gesturing is all about the flow of the form not the details right?

is there anything else besides gesturing that sketches can be composed of?

  • Looks like a great bag, but where do you get that 3 ring sketch paper for when you run out?

  • great way to meet the opposite sex!! stop giving away our secrets!!!! hahaha. thx!

  • 600 dollars for a pen,that is insane!

  • Hehehe, you're fun, I like you.

  • what kind of "brush pen" is that?

  • @TRIVIUMrocker123 It's a water brush. You can fill it with water (or ink) and use it when having a cup of water to dip your brush isn't practical. They are great fun!

  • What kind of brush pen do you use at 05:54? Really like the bag and the video!

  • thats a beautiful bag it would be awesome to have but i am a struggling artist that doesnt have that money but if it was more affordable then i would have that in a heartbeat

SO ALL YOU WITH MOMM AND DADS MONEY PICK THIS UP LOL

  • man thanks for the dateing tips !!! omg :D

  • its more like selling than showing

  • What Ipod are u using it looks interesting.

  • you are Hilarious!!!

  • LOL! This guys is too awesome!!!!!

  • @creamytarte

    I like the box.

    Check out the videos.

    They should help.

    Talk soon

    Sheldon

    Sheldon

  • I really like it and would by it if there would be a zipper to close it and protect it of rain and so on. Is a one with zipper in planning?

  • @mmgrote

    Great comment.

I thought about a zipper and decided on the snaps.

It allows me to draw and move fast.

I have had no problems in rain.

I do try to keep all my bags out of the heavy rain though.

    Thanks

    Sheldon

  • @sheldonsartacademy . Yes, I try to keep all my bags out of rain too, but the rain don't listen to me and sometimes I have to drive by bike to the university. It is not possible to keep it out of rain and dust....just with a zipper. And the second I'll loose doesn't matter. Make a second one with a zipper and I'll buy one.

  • @sheldonsartacademy @sheldonsartacademy . Yes, I try to keep all my bags out of rain too, but the rain don't listen to me and sometimes I have to drive by bike to the university. • @mmgrote

    Ya

But then it would be like any other bag.

This is designed as a sketchbook with pockets.

I somtimes put mine in my other big bags.

    Crazy?

    Take care

    Sheldon

  • why does this guy draw exactly like the master glen vilppu???

  • @kra0la

    Very good.

I have had the great honer of studying with Glenn

    for the past 31 years.

He is my Mentor, Friend, and family.

Glenn is the one and only and a true master.

    Talk soon

    Sheldon

  • You are hilarious you should quit your job and become some kind of comedian!! Lol

  • @TJ52009

    Come to my college classes.

  • @sheldonsartacademy

I can't stand how often people interrupt me when I'm trying to sketch in public. It's the same questions.

    Again.

    And again.

This is best illustrated by transplanting it to an analogous context: "So you're trying to take a nap?!"

"That's impressive, It's almost like you're really asleep."

"So what kind of sleeping do you do?"

"Who taught you to sleep like that?"

    "Do you sleep on signs?"

"So if I like, showed you a picture of my daughter, could you sleep with her?"
