All of those guys lived in Camberwell Grove, neighbours with Mark Knopfler and Joe Jackson, a collegiate buddy of Dave's at Leeds College of Music. Joe's guitar-player, the GREAT Gary Sanford, Dave & myself on Bass laid down some of Gary's songs in one of the old railway arches studios around Waterloo Station. Rastaman, one of the songs. Can't remember the others
Hey, are you in touch with Dave Barfield? Dave was drummer in my band, The Wonderfuls around North London in the 80's. Dave's brother Drew a member of a band called The Keys back then too.
No, I'm afraid I'm not in touch with Dave. I am, however, in touch with Gordon and he may still be in touch with Dave. Gordon's is still keeping busy touring these days and recently played a gig with his friend Tommy Emmanuel and recorded a CD with Rick Wakeman. The Zombies have just done a new album which uses the main riff from 'Heartsong' and puts words to it (why change a classic? ).
PS. Loved the Video Response. Great tune with a real retro feel.
"And coming up, Anne will be sampling the delights of the Florida Keys, John will be experiencing a canal holilday in Amsterdam and Frank and Nesta Bough will be trying a fly-drive break in Florence."
Hmmm, Well there's Gordon, Hand and Edwards, John G Perry.. but who's standing in on drums there? Not Simon Phillips (from the LP) or Ian Mosley (he came later).. anyone got any ideas?
I checked with Gordon and he tells me the drummer was Dave Barfield and the bass player was Dave Macdonald. Dave Barfield's brother Drew works with Paul Young or used to I believe.

1978 and for the Holiday Prog on BBC TV in 1970's. It was the signature tune.

Reminds of the days when I lived in Montenotte, in Cork's Northside, from 1977 to '79.

Giltrap will bring this song with him to eternity, if you want my opinion.

First time I've heard this version since I saw the episode. Brilliant piece by a true guitar master. He's still gigging and is as brilliant as ever.

This is an absolutely brilliant piece of work. It is farcical that it peaked at No.21 in the UK - it thoroughly deserved to reach the very top.
