  • The intro and outro to this song sounds very reminiscent of the the end of Strawberry Fields Forever where the music fades back in,the part sandwiched in between the mellotron flute craziness where the guitar stridently picks out a single note over the intense drums.

  • Slightly psychedelic- a beautiful song that fits 1967 perfectly...

  • "Take the time to treat your neighbors honestly"

  • amazing

  • look at me ----

  • YAY FOR THE CLAPS! Yay for this song. XD

  • this one os for FAKEBOOK

  • Sorry, SooperMablo, Garfunkel wrote none of their songs. Simon wrote them all on his own. (Insert obligatory "DUH" now.)

  • I though it was chad and jeremy or peter and gordon when I was younger. It sounds more like them than donovan though I like to play Epistle to dippy directly afterwards.

  • @moxie96 I like your style Moxie!!! One of Mr Leitch's best!

  • yeah this song sounds like the beatles' Revolver

  • Beverly Martyn on this?. Mr Leitch is Donovan.

  • Whomever arranged the horns on their albums was invaluable.

  • the day these dudes are gone i hope im not far behind them - it just wont be the same without these guys - we have lost so many music masters - i want to go where they going to hear this music forever -

  • love it. Sound so beatle-esque

  • @SooperMablo apart from the fact that paul simon and art garfunkel can write great lyrics and sing, your not too far away.

  • I'm curious who's the female back vocal?

  • I like how this song begins with its own "ending". How many songs do you know that "comes back around" to actually start the song? Maybe it was meant to be looped & played over & over again. Oh yes, the shop bell is "classic" nothing like that in music these days (except in my own :-)... I am a disciple of these guys!

  • @chelseaxshows : Dear Eloise by The Hollies has the same beginning and end of song !!

  • I have a dilemma. Has anyone seen Punky?

  • @SgtBastard101 I haven't lately... ;)

  • masterful use off the OFF BEAT ,great rythem, nice accents with the horns and hand clapping, nice how they speed it up and slow it down again. i dont want to analyze it too much i just want to enjoy it.

  • @53mscpkr57 no, you actually gave the best analysis I've heard, also heavily influenced by the likes of the Beatles, Strawberryfields I'd say mainly, loook at meeeeee. I own the taylors face and hands, you own the taylors face and hands!!

  • Take time to treat your friendly neighbors honestly.

  • Me, too, boys.

  • I'm picking up the punch lines.

  • Is there any danger? No, no, not really, just lean on me...WOW! I love it!

  • What a classic. I remeber picking up my good friend b4 school and we always would sing some S&G on the way there.

The bookends 8 track was our favorite.

    I had a 66 mustang with a 289..oh the memories.

  • I had a Ford Galaxie, with a 289, what do

you think, you want to race?

  • @fntime we had a '65 ford galaxie xl...oh the memories....

  • The main guitar riff in this is impeccable. Hooks you in immediately. If anyone can listen to this and say they don't like it they know nothing about great music. But what do I know I'm just fakin it.

  • 'if she stays, she stays here'

  • One of their best.

  • Have you had a busy day?

  • @ohqueluna Shesh! I have! After all, I'm not really makin' it, am I?

  • Summer music coming from the dash of a 55 Pontiac in SW Ohio in 1967. Thanks for posting.

  • This was Big big in NY and NJ in 1967 and was as close as these two came to making a song with "psychedelic" sounds in it, like the beginning and the end.

.....how big? It was played roughly every 90 minutes at its peak.

  • Good Morning Mr. Leach, have you had a busy day?"

  • At about 2:14. hEARD IT WAS A REFERENCE TO dONOVAN.

  • a touch of bob dylan in this classic tune, great posting

  • Cracked the top 10 in late summer, 1967. My favorite S&G, too.

  • Still a fantastic song!!! Thanks for posting!!

  • my absolute favorite S&G song. don't understand why it wasn't bigger.

  • mine too... I guess because it was an album cut and "Mrs. Robinson " from the same album was so huge.

  • such sophistication, sound-wise, at such early days of rock recording. i love this stuff. nothing else sounds like it.

  • Glad to find this. My freshman Lang Arts teacher pointed out the reference to reincarnation in this song to me when I was a young girl and I still haven't shaken it

    5 stars and faved.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Yeah, those '70s High School English teachers loved these guys. My 10th grade English teacher had our class try to interpret the lyrics of 'Sounds of Silence'. It was difficult, but a lot of fun. I think that it was about 1973 when I had that fun assignment.

  • @jade0425 Same with the '80's! Funny, isn't it? :)

  • One of their best.
