  • How do you know there are no ninjas in japan? They are called ninjas for a reason O_o

  • u must have been a japanese in your previous life..!!!

  • Monster is an excellent anime. I'm impressed by that man's work. A very intelligent anime. モンスターは素敵なアニメです。あの男の人の作文はいいですね。

  • Don't watch Anime with subs....you will not learn a thing.

    Watch it without subs.

  • Yeah i just watched the subs say "ASSHOLE" and all the guy said was "baka.." under his breath lol

  • Haha that was funny I would be pretty freaked out to see naruto come up to me and say rasengan! First anime I ever watche was dragonball z then it was yu-gi-oh I want to learn Japanese but I don't know were to start

  • I don't think it really matters which anime you watch just as long as it's dubbed in Japanese with subs in English or w/e language you prefer.. it's (as you partially said) more important that you do your best to be aware of what you're hearing, how it MAY translate, and how this would or would not be be naturally applied to speaking Japanese with a normal person in Japan. Even if you're watching Naruto, you can still pick up thousands of words/particles/sentences that sounds natural in Japan..

  • What about toradora?

    But they do use"You" Alot.

  • You can learn by watching Naruto, or Bleach. You have to know, they're STILL speaking Japanese in those anime. And they use all the vocabulary that you need to know anyways. Yes, it might be a little different but it doesn't matter, it's STILL Japanese. You just have to listen to it 10-12 hours a day for a year and you will be fluent.

  • @LifeFirst good luck with that pshh

  • Just learn two words a day.

  • makes sence but in bleach there is alot of symbolism that uses good words for the names of the swords and things and also a few not often spoken words like princess or royal family and cool things but its better to watch them after you know some japanese

  • i watch karin, ummm rosario + vampire, umm things like that and im sorry but you speak like this girl from my school and just like her i cant exactly understand what your saying because of your accent and the wooshing sound from the camara

  • ive seen them both and the reason you dont understand is because you dont understand japanese. japanese people can understand me without problems.

  • "There are no Ninjas and Pirates in Japan, sorry sad truth!" ROFL!!

I think the most practical Anime to learn Japanese are Ippo, GTO and Naruto... series like Death Note and Ghost in the Shell use phrases which are rarely used in everyday language. Nice video btw thank you for the information!

  • Learning Japanese, starting with Romaji to be able to translate the Parappa the Rapper anime(since only 4 episodes ever had fansubs made sadly out of the 30) :(

  • Well, I have to agree with you and also disagree with you, if that makes sense. I agree that I'm starting to get annoyed with the japanese wannabe's. And all they watch is that stupid Naruto crap. But I disagree with you because I'm japanese and I love my culture, unfortunately, I am american born, so I never grew up with the language. Since I visit Osaka, Japan often, I find it cool to learn and understand Japanese. Cheers!! BTW, don't use the word "jap" it's insulting.

  • "unfortunately, I am american born"

    本当に面白かったです! 残念ですね (笑)。

  • Hahaha, I didn't mean it that way. I love America. I was saying that I never got to experience that part of my culture as often as I would like.

  • No problem, I know what you mean. It was just a turn of phrase I couldn't resist! :o)

I agree that it's a shame that thousands of years of culture often get reduced to just anime/manga/sushi. If people can take the time to look a little beyond the surface they'll find that its so much more rewarding.

Admittedly, the language does take *quite* a lot of time to learn :o) Well worth it though I think. (笑)

    じゃ、元気でね。

  • @Kra7as "and if you call that Kanji shit language, then I'm fucking STRAIGHT !" - You just said you were gay. How does that prove a point at all?

  • sailor moon

    and

    case closed (detective conan)

  • why dont people recommend more children anime like Dr Slump orShin Chan....they might speak very basic Japanese for children but that just sounds like a good wat to start learbning japanese from anime

  • Here's a tip for determining if an anime is suitable to learn from. If it has a card games, 95% of the time you should move on.

  • Thanks for the video! :)

  • How about Ouran High School Host Club?

  • I'm actually not taking any classes =o But like, wow. Why does it have to be secret? I bet you could make a lot of money marketing something like that. Good luck to you, though I don't think you need it =]

  • If that isn't the case then I'm completely sorry I misunderstood you. It's just a little frustrating when I have to read your text over and over again to figure out what you're trying to say.

  • Then you're illiterate. I never once said I was taking purely classes. And have you tried reading what you're writing? It's so full of typos and bad punctuation that I can hardly tell what you're saying.

If what you just said is the whole point of it, then I agree with you. But if you're making a jab at me for saying you need skill to learn, people never fail, or because I'm not learning kana and only taking formal classes, then you are completely insane. Because I have said NONE of those things

  • 1. Who eats raw potatoes? That's disgusting.

    2. I just said I prefer to use both books, and anime because I'm not good at just hearing words. I want to see them AS WELL.

    3. Illiterate? Who are you to call me that? I can hardly understand what you're saying.

And good for you, for learning kanji. So am I.

I'm not trying to insult you, so I have no idea what you're so upset about.

  • What the heck?

I say that if you fail now, then you are learning bad habits that are much harder to overcome later. At least, when it comes to languages

    .

But that isn't my point. I'm sorry, I meant that just watching anime would take remarkable skill, because it's completely learned through audio. I prefer to merge both mediums, but wholly respect people who can learn from just one. Especially Anime =]

  • 好きだ。

    このビデオ^_^

  • what are the "adult" animes you recommend we watch and listen to? Sorry i couldn't make it out in this video..

  • This is very surprising o-0 I had been watching anime, and when I went into book studies, I was surprised at how much I had subconsciously soaked in. But I wouldn't use it as a primary source...mostly because I have trouble with pronunciation XD

To learn this much takes a lot of skill! Unless of course you're conning us. Then shame.

  • I brought the japanese ds game (but didn't finish it) and that helped. My sister was pising me off so I said:

    Are you stupid?

    You are very very stupid.

    I will kill you!

    GO!

    What?

Anime has only tought me words like "Arigatou Gozenmasu" and "Yasashii" and (I( know this is bad to say) "Kimi". My disrtict has two high schools and one has japanese classes. I don't think I would get to that one, but I'm such a pain in the ass I sure that would change^^

    TEACHER

    CHEATER

  • why is "kimi" bad to say? it means "you" and is used when people in a higher position talk to people in a lower position, or when you talk to kids or a lover etc. its actually a friendly word depending on when you use it. in the cases where the guys use omae, i use kimi.

if u concentrate, u can learn by watching anime. if u dont, then you cant. i got to a high school which had jp classes and ended up not going there but just doing the tests, cos there was no point since i knew it all. anime<3

  • low creatures? what the heck? and who are really the same level as you? how would I know? ppl who is born in Japan is better than you...ppl who dosent know japanese are obviously not better than you...then ppl who learn japanese the in the same way as you...and has done it the same time as you are as good as you...who would that be? dont ask me...lmao...

  • it was a JOKE ;) if you read between the lines, i first say that men are idiots and after that "but so am i". everyone is.

i don't disrespect anyone, but i neither respect anyone. i dont think i have said anything about that in my videos, so i have no idea where did u get that to your head...

better? worse? everyone sees things in their own way so those words have no meaning to me.

  • whatever...

  • and stop with your so called innoscent dissrespect towards males!!

  • what :D???

how could i not respect those low creatures (who are really the same level as I am)... lol. all of my friends are guys so how could i respect girls more than them :D? i dont rly care. but in japan, girls have to be more careful than guys (in the way they speak and everything).

  • heres the words I know lmao : soka, nani, masaka, onna, oka , chibi, kawaii, minna, ohyao, yuri, yaoi, kiyoshi, Jiyuu, demo, baka, bakaga, shinigami (yes thats a japanese word and it means death god) , imoutou and some more wich I dont remember right now <.< if anyone wants to know what those words means lmao...then ask...

  • vampire knight works! and now your like nani? right...and im like : hehe lmao...but srsly vampire knight works!

  • ya okay but it takes like 8 times longer to learn japanese from animes when you could just learn from a japanese learning book. honestly its a waste of time watching animes to learn japanese.

  • actually not. and besides, i didnt watch anime because i wanted to learn japanese, i watched (and still watch) it because i like it. after watching anime for 2 years i was able to speak japanese a way better than swedish, which i had studied for 4 years by textbooks.

its not a bad idea to use textbooks (too) but for ME its easier to learn by listening than reading. pronunciation is important too.

  • So wich animes should i watch? lol...

  • i hate you xDDD uve been here for 4 and a half month XXDDD

  • You are cute when you speak japanese :3

  • this is great, cheers.

    your english is fine btw!

  • p.s. i just looked up "omae", it is hilarious that you used it in conversation!

  • haha yeah. it's not the only weird word that I've used here. I also said "umai" when I was eating and the people with me were like "Are you an old man or what?????" :D (girls: oishii!). so surely you make that kind of mistakes if you learn evrything by watching anime, but they are easy to get rid of.

  • your pretty cute. :D

  • Very nice tips. =D

    Thanks a lot!

  • I love you :)
