what Gandhi said was TRUE! it had nothing to do with loving your enemy. Though they are intertwined they are separately addressed, because you can love your enemy, but he will often still strike you. he wasn't provoking them to strike, he was showing courage against evil. hoping to earn respect and end hate. which is what the left cheek sermon is mostly about.

The satyagraha mumbo jumbo was really a steal from the Suffragette movement, Gandhi encountered as a pupil barrister in London. It worked in England as it did in the Raj because both societies conformed to the basic principles of the rule of law and fundamental human dignities. When used as a tactic in genuine dictatorships like the Soviet Russia or Communist China it became suicidal.

@Christsyde777 No he's not, what does self respect have to do with turning the other cheek? This is incredible, it's disgraceful! This is not what Jesus said at all. He was talking about loving your enemies. Bad peopl ecan also do what Gandhi did, they can be abusive and "turn the other cheek" to resistance! It is a confusion tactic and it can lie to you! Play with your shame and anger in a way that is tragic.

@desasterz That is what love is all about. Read an MLK speech about the three kinds of love. The third kind of love is what Jesus was talking about, when he said "love your enemies". It means show them respect while not giving away your dignity. This will stop you from being enemies.

@TheCoolProfessor I'm sorry but that's not what Jesus said. In Luke, he starts with "Love your enemies" and Gandhi's not doing that, he's just looking for them to do what he wants, he would punch them back if it worked for him just as much. When I turn the other cheek, that's precistly what I'm trying not to do, he took everything I was avoiding and made a philosophy with it.
