Ater reading about 100 of the comments, it seems that no one is getting the point of O'Reilly's comment - he was returning from Afghanistan, which got forgotten for quite awhile - all the emphasis was on Iraq - and still is, for the most part. I was stationed at Camp Arifjan when Drowning Pool came there in 2005. The show was 100% free and kicked major ass. In my one year overseas I saw Drowning Pool, Adema, Aaron Tippin, Charlie Daniels Band, Charles Barkley, Brooke Burke(soo hot), the New England Pats cheerleaders, and more came by that i missed when i was in Iraq on a mission..I didnt see OReilly though, missed out on that one

I've read Lone Survivor as well. Luttrell is a fucking bad ass...but his book exaggerates quite a bit. He said 80-200 Taliban, whereas at Michael Murphy's MOH ceremony they read 30-40. My best friend is with MARSOC, and I've trained with some other secret squirrels at EAG classes. I hear shit straight from the pointy end too, and while 100% of them are all about kicking ass...the solid majority will admit what a fucking disaster Iraq is. Not the fault of soldiers...it's the result of policy.

If you're interested in SEAL heroes...you should look up Michael Monsoor. There's a nice video tribute somewhere here on youtube. He gave his life in combat keeping his teammates alive. Not diminishing Murphy, but the initial situation was created by poor decisions. After that point they fought the way we generally think secret squirrels fight...heroically.

Every recon team I've heard of including seals train to either scrap the mission and get to extraction, or move and get a new position. They chose only to move a few hundred yards up the mountain. Killing the herders would have been bad, because as Murphy pointed out, the goats would have stayed there. Never mind the negative impacts on the US mission in Iraq, and their own fate here in the US.
Yeah I'm not sure that was the best idea just relocating around the mountain but at the same time it was just a terrible situation they were fucked so many ways. I think the only military option was to execute them and then get the hell out of there because like you said the goats would have caused the villagers to come looking but they would have eventually been tried, but like Marcus says in one interview it would be worth doing the time in prison if he could have his friends back.

I was stationed at Camp Arifjan when Drowning Pool came there in 2005. The show was 100% free and kicked major ass. In my one year overseas I saw Drowning Pool, Adema, Aaron Tippin, Charlie Daniels Band, Charles Barkley, Brooke Burke(soo hot), the New England Pats cheerleaders, and more came by that i missed when i was in Iraq on a mission..I didnt see OReilly though, missed out on that one

The only Al Qaeda we've "destroyed", is Al Qaeda in Iraq which is a separate group with similar ideology and they haven't really been destroyed just bought off. I've read Lone Survivor as well. Luttrell is a fucking bad ass...but his book exaggerates quite a bit. He said 80-200 Taliban, whereas at Michael Murphy's MOH ceremony they read 30-40. My best friend is with MARSOC, and I've trained with some other secret squirrels at EAG classes. I hear shit straight from the pointy end too, and while 100% of them are all about kicking ass...the solid majority will admit what a fucking disaster Iraq is. Not the fault of soldiers...it's the result of policy.

If you're interested in SEAL heroes...you should look up Michael Monsoor. There's a nice video tribute somewhere here on youtube. He gave his life in combat keeping his teammates alive. Not diminishing Murphy, but the initial situation was created by poor decisions. After that point they fought the way we generally think secret squirrels fight...heroically.

Agreed. But that's assuming that they were going to stay in that same spot on that same mountain. Every recon team I've heard of including seals train to either scrap the mission and get to extraction, or move and get a new position. They chose only to move a few hundred yards up the mountain. Killing the herders would have been bad, because as Murphy pointed out, the goats would have stayed there. Never mind the negative impacts on the US mission in Iraq, and their own fate here in the US.

I don't advocate taking over Saudi by military force...but we could start by stopping the subsidies. Pakistan was not interested in the United States at all before we took over Afghanistan and they've stayed relatively neutral throughout it all. We forget they built their bomb to defend against India...not us. If however in the future a government is complicit in an attack on America, as the taliban was, we should attack ruthlessly as we did.

The CIA absolutely did not get it wrong. There are literally hundreds of reports in the year leading up to war that contradicted the argument used. I have listened to Bill daily since I was 19. I have never heard of drowning pool, but I applaud them for going there.
The point Bill was making was to get more entertainers over there.
