  • He doesn't seem to show some kind of enthusiasm while he talks. He talks like a politician!

    OH HE IS :O

  • @cypts1 One of the most beatiful things in human kind is that everybody is different. I really do believe is really enjoyed having this speech. Cheers.

  • TED gave a prize to a man who in 1999 bombarded my country for a 2 and a half months killing thousands and much more after from cancer caused by radiation from bombs. And all that so some organ stealing Muslim terrorist can have their own country where is main economy drug dealing and crime.

  • i dun understand why do people say he is lying.... what is he lying abt here?

  • You people should listen to what he has to say, who cares who he is, what hes trying to do is right. u should all contribute to your fellow humans, not worry about the latest ipod touch. u all should be ashamed, these people have been thru hell and back and here we are sitting on our fat a**es playing black ops. wtf happened there huh?! how about we all DO something instead of thinking about it or hoping about it. lets be the christian nation we so vividly talk about.

  • its kindda hard to belive what clinton says these days, he comes across quite sincere and honest, but i just dont know if hes a lying sack of shit or is he for real... hard to tell.

  • @Chronoalarm2009 Clinton pushes Bush's new book! They are are all one big incestuous family. Bush, Clinton, Obama.

  • After reading the book "Made to Stick" I can look at this speech through a different lens.

He has good intentions, but not telling a "sticky" story.

Facts and abstractions bore us and are forgotten quickly.

Compare this to Mike Rowe's TED talk, which is story-based. Far more memorable, even though he is arguably talking about far less important things.

  • and this jackass got the noble peace prize!

  • clinton is a cruel hoax in his sincere soft spoken voice reaping millions through diabolical big pharma investments. carter is the same. death reigns supreme in their wake.

  • Try watching the documentary Ghost of Rwanda and than try and piece everything together. Clinton is a charismatic speaker but that's all he is good at... not to mention getting caught with his pants down.. I have lost a lot of respect already by typing this all out..

  • Bad microphone, the sound of his lips and spit is very distracting.

  • @ErikNikolai Why did you say that!? That's all I could focus on now!

  • @ErikNikolai Very true. At first I thought he was reading his teleprompter (or version thereof), but then I realized he was "speaking out of the side of his mouth" like a good politician, to minimize the fricative/plosive pops of his cheap speaking mic.

Why wasn't a good headset provided like in most TED talks? Well maybe because he's an ex-prez and is more familiar with SM58 mics and other press-conference/standard address mics??

I blame the sound tech! =)

  • you're a freak.

  • oh yeah? I'm telling but the truth skizzo! go get some more telly brainwashing dumbass!

  • Comment removed

  • Clinton helped the economy bloom. Bush ruined the economy. Ask any conservative who ruined the economy. They'll say Obama and Clinton. He should have been elected in a government that doesn't suppress his ideas, such as this dirt hole.

  • The difference was that in the middle ages, the rest of the world wasn't keeping Europe down, whereas this is exactly what's happening to Africa.

  • Absurd to suggest that as an American citizen, that you are in some way more "Evolved" than an African...

Your country is brand new by African standards and the United States that you know now was created by European settlers - there wasn't any sort of "climbing out of the dark ages" because American didn't exist in the dark ages!

The reason why everyone is on about "saving Africa" as you say, is because we are the very nations that have repressed those countries for our own gain!

  • Of course civilized and educated individuals living in an industrial society are more advanced than those who are living in primitive and underdeveloped tribal societies.

Western civilization advanced out of the dark ages during the Enlightenment and the Age of Reason. The United States was founded on the values of the Enlightenment, such as individual liberty and the rule of law.

  • Africans are repressed because they live under totalitarian socialist dictators, who are sustained by the "foreign aid" channeled to them by other states.

The only way to make Africa more civilized and prosperous, is to establish the rule of law, property rights and free trade.

Incidentally, it was Africans slave masters who enslaved their fellow Africans, to sell as slaves. Not western civilization.

  • @ErikNikolai In many cases those dictators were installed by our "great" nations for the very purpose of exploiting their resources at a minimal cost (the cost of some foreign aid or weapons).

It's also worth mentioning - there are countless stable countries in Africa. All of the Arab nations (Egypt, Tunisia, Morroco etc.) are developed and stable. Ghana is very politically stable and S. Africa is more prosperous than any S. American country.

  • @ErikNikolai A new blue-collar who has the answer to everything

  • wow

  • is this in the prize section of TED?

  • I`ve got an enormous amount of respect towards the work of Clinton both when he was in office, and now after it as well. IMHO this is a great example of how and what power and influence should be used for...

  • get the fuck off your high horses zeleftikam and dexflorida. I didnt see you two eggheads saving people from genocidal fuckups. Slick Willy here probably had a lot more good to say about this than you two fucks ever have

  • Try not to be quite so ignorant karlscooter1! zeleftikam & dexflorida did not hold the highest office in the world so it wasn't their responsibility to intervene in the Rwandan genocide.

The fact of the matter is, that with US support the genocide could have been stopped. This wasn't done because it would have affected Bill's & democrat popularity. That is a fact!

Making amends is the right thing to do but maybe Rwanda wouldn't need healthcare reforms if he had have intervened previously!

  • What a wonderful man... in office I wish he had done more, but I am so glad that Bill is working his hardest on helping the poor.

  • 16:15 - 17:00

YEAH course she's an unusually gifted woman, she's my mum! The ex-president just mentioned my mum!!!!!!

  • MORGPOPE you are right!! in a common sense...

  • ... It's a shame people are too obsessed with voicing their personal opinions on the individual (which contributes nothing to society in any way, shape, or form...) instead of listening to the message. The man makes good points, has an honorable wish, and is making steps to better the lives of thousands of people. Absorb, agree or disagree, and move along... and go do something constructive.

  • This is obviously too little too late.

This speech should have been coming from Clinton when he was President.

  • He might have been a little busy, durrrrrr

  • Does that mean he can't have good ideas?

  • Dear Rwanda,

Here's what we're trying to do now to help you. Sorry for not doing SWEET FUCK ALL when that genocide was going on. I was getting a BJ from a fat chick at the time and I was afraid of Fox News. I might have ben the most poweful person on earth, but you know how it is. I hope my speech and program brings your children, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives and friends back.

    Yours

    Bill Clinton

  • Bill and Ted's great adventure... Let's talk about growth and then talk about bad stuff too. Growth makes democratic governments less sensitive, personal donations are not govt. Bill. Your speech is a series of non sequiters...

  • ah man, i love Clinton.

  • great reply, shows ur social level.

  • learn how to spell redneck

  • I am German, who live in China, you Kid. How many languages u speak ? one? Be proud of that u looser.

  • I speak 4 and by the Way u live in the past.

  • Numbers, numbers, numbers.

  • Numbers are facts, numbers are clear and direct. Numbers readily prove a method is working. Numbers are important. Numbers are everything.

  • numbers can be manipulative and misleading but i agree with some of clinton's points. Don't always belive numbers unless you're absolutely sure how they were aquired.

  • oh and by the way usa is weapon producer number one under the president time of clinton.

  • 100 000 dollar for that guy? give that to a doctor who was there and helped but not to the head of the government.

dam i cant respect that price anymore.

  • What about population issues in Rwanda? Did I miss a mention of family planning? Population density is strangling that poor country. Increased health surely can only be promoted in tandem to family planning.

  • Clinton brought us the longest period of uninterrupted growth in American history. Now look at what Bush has done to the economy, that's what you get when inbred toothless hicks elect a fake cowboy with a record of nothing but failures like Bush. Come back Clinton! America needs to become strong once again!

  • also, in kosovo, we bombed the only pharmacudical factory

and in somalia, we bombed the only advanced hospital in the region

  • Thanks for selling out the entire US economy/freedoms by getting on your knees for Robert Rubin and Alan Greenspan. If the value of your home has dropped recently (which it has), thank this man for putting the final nail in the coffin on the US market. Why people continue to empower this man or his wife and drink of their rhetoric, I do not know. Also, thank you for empowering the FED who have set in motion the complete destruction of the dollar/middle class. Pompous jackass. Bush is guilty too.

  • I wonder if Clinton had gotten up there and talked about his trying to follow Jesus if the audience would have booed.

  • The best president ever

  • Thats my boy BILL CLINTTTTTTTONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

  • Bill deserved the pussy.

He is so much better than a other president i could mention :-)

  • I love this guy!

  • he talks well, beta then his wife.

  • CLINTON,CLINTON,lol he said haters somewhere in 21 mins.If u americans dont want him for president,he's welcome to come to canada to become our new PM.He'll sure get my vote.

  • CLINTON IS THE MANNN!!!

  • Yes, this is true.

  • bill for pres!

  • I'm surprised Clinton almost sounded apologetic for not sending the troops to Rwanda. But it's one thing to be the President (leader of executive branch) and another thing to be a well meaning individual & philanthropist. Clinton opposed Armenian Genocide resolution when in office, supported it before & after - and it's ok for President to have different priorities.

  • Sending troops to Rawanda would haave be like treating a symptom, not curing the disease. I am not saying that he shouldn't have sent troops to rawanda, but what he is doing now is much much beneficial.

  • he should be general sec. to the U.N.

  • I'd like to nominate Bill Clinton for the 1st man of the Millenium award. Possibly the most inspiring and positive leader we have today.

  • Your comment has been given a -6 by the U.S. Government to hide the truth from the public.

  • When the havers can not lead and the leaders can not have, we'll see utopia. What would it be like to see a law that bars any leader from being millionares?

  • share fairly is not the USA work hard and make some thing out of your self or do nothing and that is find too but share fairly is more red than red white and blue dont you think

  • When you watch something like this, you see a real President. The current occupant of the White House couldn't write something so eloquent -- let alone be active in such a philanthropic venture -- if his life depended on it.

Let's change the Constitution to make it legal for Presidents to serve a third term, and then let's run Clinton against Bush Jr. I'd love to see the poll results (assuming they aren't stolen)!

  • Why be republicans so dumb and language no use properly, ugh money guns ugh ugh.

  • Well Clinton's work to end the Rwanda genocide helped drive down Rwanda's healthcare costs. 800,000 fewer people to worry about.

  • and so as the poor he talks about he used the white house for what and yes did nothing for the men on the cole that were killed. so now his wife may get a shot at us.

  • Aren't you supposed to be burning a cross somewhere?

  • i wasn't lucky enough to have any children or grandchildren yet because my family did not get the support bill clinton did. i demand and expect proper recompense, and not from the dictatorship cia.

  • Hey can you hear that? It's the worlds smallest violin playing just for you.

  • bill clinton et al. need to rely less on the "secret service aliens" and more on the real people whose job it is to bring in improvements. the aliens are merely a support system, they are not in charge. they do not have a good enough plan. they took too long since they were involved with nazis, communists too long.

  • I really like Bill Clinton ... but I really do not like his wife.

  • What if you just stopped liking and disliking?

Oh well. You can't do that. You are just a freaky little human who is unable to control his emotions.

  • I still can't work out why people keep voting Republican. Every time they get in power America suffers. This time round they've gone from one of the worlds most loved Nations, to one of the worlds most hated... yet they still kept Bush in... I think the solution is for each American to look around and find the answers in their own situations rather than getting the answers from News Channels... because I can only think that Bush is a product of Cable News Product-Placement.

  • President Clinton is a great man, and there are many other great people out there doig wonderful things, sadly though, most of us are not inspired by their examples because our media believes we are more interested in Hollywood gossip, and idiots like Bill O'Reilly than w would be in inspirational people like Clinton, Carter, Maharita Sen, Jay Rockefeller etc.

  • Bill Clinton is a great man. He is one of the best presidents the US have ever seen. We all bask in the glow and warmth of Mr. Franklin's rising sun, Mr. President. Indeed. Let's make the most of it!

  • Hello fellow american

    Giuliani is out of control.

All we hear from him is 9/11, but do you remember Rudy before then?

    WE sure do.

Check out what our fellow ferrets are saying about him:

Just Search for nyferrets on youtube

    Yours truly,

    mike

    leader of the ny ferrets

    member of ferrets for freedom

  • Here's my question: If Hillary were to be elected, how would Bill's foundation work influence her administraton's policy? Would they keep the foundation work separate (in the public eye, at least)? Does Hillary currently have public connection with his work?

  • What difference would it make? It's humanitarian aid not oil companies stealing billions.

  • Bill Clinton is the man.

  • because primarily of the power of the internet people of modest means can band together and amass vast sums of money they can change the world for some public good if they all agree...

one of the truest statements any president has ever conveyed ever.

bush wants to suppress clinton wants openness

  • even though i dont agree with everything clinton stands for, i gotta say that he is the best president this country has had in a very long time...yes he lied about a blowjob, but seriously, bush lied about wmd's which of the two is worse? no one died because clinton was gettin blown....how many more will die because of bush's lies

  • I really miss Mr. Clinton. The stark contrast between a clear thinking human being and one who just "feels" he is right is staggering.

  • This speech is great. Unfortunately, the most memorable speech of Clinton's life will always be the one stating "I did not have sexual relations with that woman.."

  • man this guy can speak...

  • Like everyone who has the necessary organs. Big deal.

  • I know a little bit of what he has done in his life and he is a great speaker... compare him to our actual president.

Clinton is really an accomplished person. Not many people get to do 1% of what he did.

  • Your actual president is Al Gore.

  • Bush says nothing abouta movie made about him Clinton blows up Bush says nothing about his polls being so low and goes a head and does what he thinks is right not what ever one will love him for Al Gore cryed about not winning I don't see Bush doing that in a movie like Al did he is a cry baby. I hate war I hate nuts that think they get lay in heaven by blowing us up too

  • lol

  • What a guy!

But is it just me, or does he sound very out-of-breath?

And when will Chelsea be giving him those grandchildren?

    eh?

  • I love how Clinton is doing better work out of office despite all attempts that were made to break him. A leader of rare calibre. Love and Gods speed to him.

  • I wonder how many interns he has now? I doubt he has spent much of his own money on Ruanda. But I hope stay out of U.S. this time.

  • Jealousy is an ugly thing bud.

  • only smart people appreciate his work to humanity, what are you doing for the world, chucky? spying on your neighbors and making stupid comments, judging people's private lives? do you read hola!? hmmm?

  • I served in the military till I couldn't any more and I do what I feel is right. But I understand Liberal debates, when the charges are in indefensible attack the people making them.

  • Population control is definately a missed topic here.

These governments need help developing economic growth and sustainable healthcare.

  • The very sad reality is that the Ruanda genocide was a result of overpopulation. There are examples of communities in Ruanda where there were almost no Tutsi, yet even there these villagers also went out and slaughtered Hutu landowners.

So for reductions in mortality to be meaningful long term they muct be tied to education and a commitment to population stability.

  • Clinton was a Kosher stooge just like the Profiteer in Chief we've got now. He did his Federally Mandated amount of international destruction (oh, but it was mostly White people, so that doesn't matter) and continued the fine presidential tradition of supporting unconstitutional measures based upon the "interpretations" (I wonder how many ways a STOP sign can be interpreted) of Marxist loudmouths. Overall, a subpar FDR-wannabe.

  • Has politics prevented poverty. We have spent TRILLIONS of dollars since LBJ's Great Society. The poor was about 8% of the population in 1964. We still have about 8% of the population that is poor.

After 40 years of social spending we have not achieved anything but growing a huge beuracracy. I don't think the poor benfited. The politicians did. I am sorry I am so cynical. I guess it is because of what they do and not what they say.

  • Good luck with the malawi government. They went to the DFID with all sorts of great plans for malawi development, gave them the money, couple of weeks later they'd bought a fleet of brand new mercedes. But good luck to bill clinton, i know he's a rhetoric merchant but i always liked him (as does everybody else in uk)

  • Will health care in Rawanda eliminate future tribal hatred in Rawanda?

President Clinton's pragmatic goals are worthy, his rhetoric persuasive, the health benefits clear. It's all worth doing. I'm just not certain that human hatred can be defused by this, or by any, means.

  • Hatred feads on poor conditions, there may be dislike in a country like Germany, but they will not get to arms

  • Agreed, but I think it works both ways: poverty feeds of of tribal hatred, too. It's a feedback loop; poverty and hatred reinforce each other.

After all, hatred produces fear. Fear is a very bad input to any economic system.

  • What? You mean the united states was a nation of hatred during the depression of the 1930's or was that Germany invading Poland after the Fuhrer got Germany out of poverty. Your ideals are flawed. History does not support your theory.

  • this man is exceptional, hopefully here in Scotland we might be granted with a leader of similiar calibre

  • You get what Westminster gives you, lowly Scot.

  • njwilco87, Exceptional....Rwanda/800,000...Sudan/2.5 million (1995 to 2000), Kosovo, Juanita Broederick/Eileen Wellstone/Elizabeth Ward Gracen/Kathy Bradshaw all forcibly raped. Hundreds of others sexually harassed. Nuclear Reactor to Korea,
