  • Been a fan since I was 15... I'm 30 now.

  • Does anyone know what the frame at 4:07 is of? Or from?

  • @sonobl it's from the painting of Momus playing St Sebastien with arrows in his side from the cover of 'Circus Maximus'

  • @TuruOkada Oops, I actually meant the (very last) picture at 4:11... It looks like a scene from a play.

  • Oh god I loved SnubTV and had this very episode on audiotape for years. Have you still got it?

  • I'VE ADDED SO MANY VIEWS TO THIS VIDEO

  • damn you, itunes! itunes has barely any of his songs, ditto for cd stores. I'd hate to illegally get momus's stuff :(

  • the airplaystyle of the all-round-entertainer-performer-literate-brelookalike-poet-scotsman-sometime-serge's-raider-shitstirrer-philosopher-highbrowed-pirate-yet-alwaysgentlemanlike-humble-pop-manufacturer. Amongst bookworms, I bow in respect and tribute for a quarter of a century of great entertainment-thankyou.

  • Well I cannot believe that there are 5 people who wouldn't like this song...Its just great and always makes me smile:o)

  • "you'll find my comb behind a chest of drawers, she says she slept alone but the bed was full of hairs" - this got playlisted on Radio one but hardly anyone could buy cause creation hadn't bothered to print up enough copies (allegedly)

  • @TuruOkada fuck remember steve wright played this when i was young lad!!!

  • @polski1977 - I remember it very well - ran out to Our Price who had sold out (which usually meant they had sold the one copy the had of each of the unknown new releases) . Luckily found the 12" at the branch in the next town - well worth the journey.

  • where can one find this version? -on iTunes there's only some weird acoustic version...

  • does momus have sex nowadays ? or has he turned int o a celibate like morrissey is ?

  • it is stirring .

  • This is why the Internet can help you accomplish any goal (or put off any goal).

"Oh, some baseball player died. Who was he? Ah, Jose Lima. Guess I will Google him to find out ..."

    (WIKIPEDIA: GO)

Jose Lima -> Major League Baseball -> History of Baseball in the United States -> Cy Young -> Walter Johnson -> Ogden Nash -> Carnival of the Animals -> Wendy Carlos -> Momus.

    "Huh ... who is Momus?"

Brilliant. And this song is fantastic.

  • @NotQuarex lol. same here. I was watching Kaze no Stigma, wikied it, which led me to bishonen, which led me to Momus.

  • @NotQuarex Insatiable curiosity is a beautiful thing, ain't it?

  • @NotQuarex

you had quite some luck in clicking links on wikipedia...

i followed your way and learned by the way how exactly (icluding the problems with the michelin man) stars forever developed and how, if my young father would have had 1000 dollars to give away, a song portrait about me as a four year old child would have been written by momus, what would have been more than great because now im 18 and a big momus fan

  • @NotQuarex hahaha , you're totally right

  • my dog this is excellent . twenty years on and it still fascinates me . never ends

  • wow heavent listened this for years

  • he stopped singing about the man on your street. probably for the best

  • Make it either wavy or curly. Or get layers and/or bangs on the side. This site is helpful. [ hairstylehairstyleCCcom ] (replace CC with a dot)

  • This is one of the best songs I've ever heard. I am not exagerating one little bit.

  • Very exclusive artist, impossible to compare with others.

    Momus above time and style

  • momie dearest!

  • This is like Peter Murphy's solo work, only good!

  • Oh my, I haven't heard this in years. Still utterly fabulous.

  • It's a glorious song and I'd love to see Momie go back to that sound, but knowing his penchant for novelty, I find that very unlikely. That is unless he somehow manages to justify the retro excursion through mind-bending McLuhian logic.

  • cooolll

  • For those who do not know, Momus and The PSB are in a mutal-appreciation club for unpop. Now I love Momus, I do, very much, and this does sit somewhere between PSB and Sparks, but I don't think his production value can hold much to what PSB did, and their songwriting styles are not very comparable (other than their affecting deadpan vocals..but Tennant sings, and Momus usually just says).

  • Very true, a shame, cause M is great and a more incisive songwriter IMO but he could've done with his own Chris Lowe and better collaborations, maybe. The last 20-odd seconds of this video are brilliant, though...

  • Damn Pet Shop Boys for stealing his thunder, this is the real deal, not those other 2.

  • @inshreds66 no hse stole it from pet shop boys . its a sin came before

    this did . he he

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds like Pet Shop Boys to me.

  • yeah, he sounds like Neil Tenant

  • You´re so right. This is completely PSB-esque!

  • @FrankyHaemmer ...only BETTER.

  • His latest albums are exciting too, they just ask for a different approach compared to the more traditional pop/songwriting early stuff. Ocky Milk is wonderful, and again, unique.

  • Gawd, dance clubs in Europe in the 80's, when the music was great, the fashions so colorful, the dollar was so strong against the Deutschmark, and this song was pulsing on the dance floor every night! LOL!

  • The guys who did the remix for the "Monster Of Love 85-90" compilation.......THE GRID!!!!!

  • And I'd almost forgotten about you Momus, my favourite pervert.

  • ugh i just accidently just bought the droopy sexless version of this song off slender sherbet on itunes. can anyone tell me where i can get this version of this track???

  • jerzkid87: this version is from the album Don't Stop the Night'. Catalogue number: CRE CD 052

There is a rather cool version on Monsters of Love: single 1985-90. Catalogue number: CRECD059

  • hahasaidthecar: I agree. 'Voyager' is a masterpiece.

  • i think this song is about infidelity.

    momus is a genius!!

    horny as hell..

  • I would like to see him do the sit down dance in the electric chair and sing sing

  • I wish he would knuckle down and make another album. I'm admittedly more a fan of his Creation days, but I have enjoyed his output since. His records are the only ones I will rush out for, since they are very much "of the moment." Those early albums were far more focussed in my opinion, stronger in concept, less diffuse.

  • Good song, brilliant LP. Still think "Lifestyles of the rich and famous" would have proved a much stronger single.

  • Ah..."lifestyles of the rich and famous"...a great song!

  • A Complete History of Penis Envy (Sizes 24-29)

  • Ahh! Momus!

That took me straight back to 1988. Godly artist.

  • Genuine genuis!

    VIVA MOMUS

  • i love this song so much! even tho i m young my dad bought me up listening to these kind of songs! his one coming in a girls mouth :oO lol love it! but this one i fully love!

  • awesome!

  • mrow

  • I´m also a great fan. (having 20 CDs of momus). In Germany he is almost unknown.

  • but easy to get to know

  • Same here - I have all the CDs and no-one else in England seems to know he exists.

  • havnt heard this for years - great

  • Debate can be useful sometimes. What music do you like, hoddiecampbell?

  • what are you so bitter about?

  • gorgeous, momus as bowie doing italo disco perversion. so sooo hot.

  • Excellent song. Momus.4.ever

  • brilliant song. music is a little dated but the words... the words... he's one of the best lyricists ever.

  • first momus video i have seen

    thanks

  • he was and still is the best. i'll go on being a fan for ever

  • At the beginning he looks like Jacques Brel with the hairstyle ... well, the hairstyle of the devil!

  • There's a bit of Martin Amis somewhere in there too.

  • Oh no he's classier than that plagiarist.

He deserved better if he'd had luck and someone had helped him. Tin Tin or the PSB or another great producer to push him . Momus should have had a few hits and been more loved.

  • You're probably right, although I picked up my first Amis book after he mentioned him on this album. It could be argued that their careers have followed similar trajectories since the late 80s:)

Whilst I love Don't Stop The Night, I'm not sure I'd have wanted him to have mainstream success (selfish of course!) He's lost me a bit with the last couple of albums but he made some great stuff in a less commercial style straight after Hairstyle.

  • I wonder if he was going for the Bowie look...

  • Strange to think that in an alternate universe Nick was a huge late 80's pop star. I think he's currently doing a comeback tour there, or panto. In this set of quantum probabilities things turned out very differently, and we should all be thankful for that.
