"you'll find my comb behind a chest of drawers, she says she slept alone but the bed was full of hairs" - this got playlisted on Radio one but hardly anyone could buy cause creation hadn't bothered to print up enough copies (allegedly)
@polski1977 - I remember it very well - ran out to Our Price who had sold out (which usually meant they had sold the one copy the had of each of the unknown new releases) . Luckily found the 12" at the branch in the next town - well worth the journey.
This is why the Internet can help you accomplish any goal (or put off any goal).
"Oh, some baseball player died. Who was he? Ah, Jose Lima. Guess I will Google him to find out ..."
(WIKIPEDIA: GO)
Jose Lima -> Major League Baseball -> History of Baseball in the United States -> Cy Young -> Walter Johnson -> Ogden Nash -> Carnival of the Animals -> Wendy Carlos -> Momus.
you had quite some luck in clicking links on wikipedia...
i followed your way and learned by the way how exactly (icluding the problems with the michelin man) stars forever developed and how, if my young father would have had 1000 dollars to give away, a song portrait about me as a four year old child would have been written by momus, what would have been more than great because now im 18 and a big momus fan
If momus did music as good as his lyrics, music would have ended. You would listen to him and put away your guitar and say "that's it, it's all here, we have the truth, there is no reason to keep doing it since we'll never do anything better"
It's a glorious song and I'd love to see Momie go back to that sound, but knowing his penchant for novelty, I find that very unlikely. That is unless he somehow manages to justify the retro excursion through mind-bending McLuhian logic.
For those who do not know, Momus and The PSB are in a mutal-appreciation club for unpop. Now I love Momus, I do, very much, and this does sit somewhere between PSB and Sparks, but I don't think his production value can hold much to what PSB did, and their songwriting styles are not very comparable (other than their affecting deadpan vocals..but Tennant sings, and Momus usually just says).
Very true, a shame, cause M is great and a more incisive songwriter IMO but he could've done with his own Chris Lowe and better collaborations, maybe. The last 20-odd seconds of this video are brilliant, though...
His latest albums are exciting too, they just ask for a different approach compared to the more traditional pop/songwriting early stuff. Ocky Milk is wonderful, and again, unique.
Gawd, dance clubs in Europe in the 80's, when the music was great, the fashions so colorful, the dollar was so strong against the Deutschmark, and this song was pulsing on the dance floor every night! LOL!
ugh i just accidently just bought the droopy sexless version of this song off slender sherbet on itunes. can anyone tell me where i can get this version of this track???
I wish he would knuckle down and make another album. I'm admittedly more a fan of his Creation days, but I have enjoyed his output since. His records are the only ones I will rush out for, since they are very much "of the moment." Those early albums were far more focussed in my opinion, stronger in concept, less diffuse.
i love this song so much! even tho i m young my dad bought me up listening to these kind of songs! his one coming in a girls mouth :oO lol love it! but this one i fully love!
He deserved better if he'd had luck and someone had helped him. Tin Tin or the PSB or another great producer to push him . Momus should have had a few hits and been more loved.
You're probably right, although I picked up my first Amis book after he mentioned him on this album. It could be argued that their careers have followed similar trajectories since the late 80s:)
Whilst I love Don't Stop The Night, I'm not sure I'd have wanted him to have mainstream success (selfish of course!) He's lost me a bit with the last couple of albums but he made some great stuff in a less commercial style straight after Hairstyle.
Strange to think that in an alternate universe Nick was a huge late 80's pop star. I think he's currently doing a comeback tour there, or panto. In this set of quantum probabilities things turned out very differently, and we should all be thankful for that.
Been a fan since I was 15... I'm 30 now.

Does anyone know what the frame at 4:07 is of? Or from?

@sonobl it's from the painting of Momus playing St Sebastien with arrows in his side from the cover of 'Circus Maximus'

@TuruOkada Oops, I actually meant the (very last) picture at 4:11... It looks like a scene from a play.
