Does anyone happen to know/have the ability to transcribe tablature for this song? Despite all the crazy effects, I'd love to know just how to play the main riffs here. I'm not musically developed enough to transcribe by ear but I LOVE THIS SONG.
Amazing- particularly with the distorted harmonic riff at the end. I never knew Louisville had this sort of mastery in their local scene. I lived an hour away in Cincy, saw many Ear-X-tacy stickers but no familiarity with Slint or any other bands there. The idea that anyone was creating this caliber of material- at this time- is mind blowing. !!
@Chloralone - Yes, it does! I wish I thought to escape downriver years ago. Cincinnati had some good bands here and there, but nothing to compare with Louisville. Most bands there now only think about making money and not contributing anything to musical artifice. With Rodan, Shipping News, and Slint, Louisville has made its mark on music.
@leftnutnamedchancey Check out My Disco a band from AU (obviously a nod to Big Black). They use Travis Bean guitars...Kramer also made them when Travis Bean worked there.
I love this album. It's in my top twenty ever. I'm sure it pissed Steve Albini off, because it sounds like a Big Black record, except with much more competent playing.
It's the best album of the genre, hands down, with the best sounding guitars and drums of any similar album of the time.
Nothing about this album fucks around. It makes every other band look like they aren't taking their music seriously.
@mojocatt I knew Albini produced this. That's why I wondered how he felt about it. He basically helped a band make a record that sounded like his own band, but better.

Being from Louisville, Brian HAD to be talking about the southend in this song, because I can picture what he is describing.

Gives it that wicked and gnarly screech!

I like the fact that they used guitars with aluminum necks. Very reminscent to Public Image Limited.

@leftnutnamedchancey Interesting that I got into this band and Public Image at the same time: just this past month.

Raw alt-rock at it's best !
A friend of mine taped me a trail of dead album and this was at the end but for years I never new who the band were.
These guys make songwriting an exploration.

This is kind of an obscure one I guess.

@Polyfusia I don't think it pissed Steve Albini off, since he produced it.

No, this is one of Albini's first stabs at recording. The 'Derd Niffer' is Steve.
But I see what you are gettingat. I like the Big Black, but I like the Slint just a hair more.
