i want to go to a school like this i mean my schools good for film and such but our 3d program and special effects are shit school in refference Raymond Walters, brancg campus of uc
@andgate2000 they looked okay and not sure how a real plane would fly as opposed to whats shown only problem i noticed with the planes is they were pretyy close to the bridge and never flew over
@NicoSchrenk Students would use a variety of different softwares to produce work like this. Typically, they would use Maya and/or XSI, along with ZBrush or Renderman. Thanks!
Great use of Blast Code What did you make your Explosions in? is it 3ds max Flame or real flow or PRaticle Illusion Fusion. Im intrested it looked really convincing.
Im doing another kind of video editing education and it's my 1st year atm.. But seriously it isnt thard to make. He already explained what to do, it's more like guide lol :p The only hard part is the modelling in 3D. The other stuff is particles.
Actually- not to defend taking picking it apart, but this type of criticism is the greatest flattery. How many people even care to notice details when a piece of work doesn't approach this level of genius...
Looks really good man. I don't know why so many people are on here trying to pick it apart.
1. This stuff isn't easy.
2. It's a student reel.
3. Look at most major motion pictures in the last few years that feature any sort of compositing or vfx which is most of them. Scroll through frame by frame and you'll find an equal number of inconsistencies. If the pros can't get it perfect every time then it's silly to expect a student final project to be completely flawless.
Kanis - the cables are white because the light makes them white, but if you get closer it looses the light that reflects from them, I'm sorry I can't be more specific, because y don' know very well the terms in english but you should learn more about film photography
Okay, I sort of agree with you, actually the cables near the camera look white enough, but the ones that are far are left green. Look at 0:58 . You can easilly note the difference. :)
11. In the panoramic picture.. there were brighter and darker spots on the water surface... Hovewer, if the water would not be that static, this would be unnotable. :)
jeez, how long did you spend watching the video looking for errors?
You one of those people that points out all the goofs in movies? or talks the whole way through about what you would have done? do you know how annoying that is? Just shut up and watch
its too bad that the Water in the panoramic kept still... woulda been cool to see some animated distortion in AE done... like Mesh Warp or something... lol... altogether though... great job..
great job on the missiles... the CC on the explosion could have been desat very very slightly... Heat Distortion would have been sweet on the Jets flying past... overall great job!, i really liked the virtual cam move, and the bridge destruction was great... just the explosion could have used a little more work, i felt the Comp wasn't sold to me yet... what compositing software did you use, After Effects?
Good genes indeed. For those of you who are debating whether or not its real footage or CG explosions, it's both :) This project was a learning experience, and I am so very proud I got it this far. Thank you to all who left me great comments. Your support is much appreciated. For anyone who wishes to exercise their creative talents, VFS is the place to be. I met so many talented and articulate people. It was an experience I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life.
the jets were about to fly over the bridge at 0:14 and just didnt do so in the next shot 0:16!! the explosions as well fire outwards then quickly disappear like the bridge side was fueled or something! however there's potential in this effect as animating the bridge was an excellent idea!
Good stuff, but the bridge deformations and explosions when hit seemed too stiff and overall "CG-ish" to me. The bridge also needs actual textures to sell photorealism. :)
neat, take that lions gate! one thing that kinda didnt sit well with me was how animated the explosion was. Im sure if it was from the same distance from the bridge as the first shot it would have looked cleaner. But detailed work is what i think you guys were shooting for.

8. The pieces of the bridge flying away seemed undamaged.
9. The bridge was in a perfect shape, not a single stain of dirt on it. Unrealistic.
10. In the panoramic picture the cables of the bridge were white, while, in the explosion animation, they were green, like the rest of the bridge.
Seems there's plenty of space for improvements :)
However what you've done is superb.
I couldn't do that.
Sry for my bad english. Not my native language.
14KANiS 3 years ago
1. The water kept still.
2. The floating black thingy on the left at 0:11 was not moving...
3. The missiles came from nowhere.
4. After missiles explode, pieces of the bridge just flie away as if there was no gravity or it was very weak.
5. After the explosion smoke, that was tailing the missiles, foze up. It should have been blasted away by the explosion.
6. No traffic on the bridge?
7. The explosions went away too fast. There should have been more flames.
