  • awesome done!

  • do u have the model uploaded? im trying to make 1 atm looks vommit ;/

  • i want to go to a school like this i mean my schools good for film and such but our 3d program and special effects are shit school in refference Raymond Walters, brancg campus of uc

  • Well Done my friend.

  • Great work! Do your students use Cinema 4d?

    JBH-FILMS

  • @JBHMEDIA Our students typically use Maya and/or XSI, as well as software packages like ZBrush or Renderman. Thanks!

  • this is really good.

  • Why is it that cg planes never fly like real planes ????????

  • @andgate2000 they looked okay and not sure how a real plane would fly as opposed to whats shown only problem i noticed with the planes is they were pretyy close to the bridge and never flew over

  • i liked it until the bridge blew up...no longer looked natural and didn't fit together with the scene. just my opinion however.

  • NICE.

  • Fine work,dude.

  • great! how did you do the demolition?

  • @NicoSchrenk Students would use a variety of different softwares to produce work like this. Typically, they would use Maya and/or XSI, along with ZBrush or Renderman. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool i just love the video... thanks for answering

  • Awesome work. How long did it take you to do this?

  • the lions gate bridge just got owned :)

  • the bridge looks a bit unrealistic, it needs more texture

  • you´re the best video that i wacht

  • amazing!

  • excellent :)

  • you should give the bridge some more texture, then it would look perfect :)

  • I can make something like this.

  • that¡s the way I love special effects! are amazing!

  • you now what your doing! XD

  • xD cool

  • breath taking

  • what software can you use panorama pictures for? Is it possible to place panorama pictures into Sony Vegas Pro 9? Anyone please gimme response.

  • @Rizorn

    photoshop

  • this is too easy to be demoreel ,

  • Well done, I wish I thought of using a panoramic image, I always spent hours Motion Tracking...

  • O_Omg amazing

  • I wish I can do that as well

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome !

  • why is that?

  • were can we get free pano images that we can stitch ourselves?

  • great!

  • reminds me of i am lengend hahaah

  • amazing

  • so great!

  • very nice explosion well done :) the brigde reacted realistic when got hit by explosion :)

  • Great use of Blast Code What did you make your Explosions in? is it 3ds max Flame or real flow or PRaticle Illusion Fusion. Im intrested it looked really convincing.

  • you can make that using any 3d software, just need a plugin i think

  • @rubent: You need talent, not plugins!

  • @jussing actually you need both.

  • @jussing Talent and plugins XD

  • wow!!! [=

    song name?

  • yeah... i am really not fan of this kind of music but thisone is fine :P

and video is very good... yes there are some mistakes - its not top-realistic but anyway very good job... 4,5 *

  • not bad, but also not passable for a real feature... the explosions look fake, especially the bridge crumpling back, not realistic.

  • THAT PRETTY BLOODY GOOD though

  • Sucks there's no movement in the water either, reinforcing the fact he's using still images. =\ Still looks good either way.

  • I bet that you didn't saw that in the movie itself.

  • I suggest looking at the water at 0:10, it has wave-movement. i think this is one of the best effects reels i have seen 5/5

  • great!!

  • amazing job, looked very real. u r right man, driving for Cara should be the last thing on ur mind,

  • Awesome, efectos de primera!

  • Makes sense but a lot for a short clip.

But I digress I loved it the effects made it look realistic.

  • Explosion looks kinda fake though.

  • very nice job!!!!

  • there is one thing gets me kinda annoyed,

in the first shot, the missiles seem to be flying too high to hit the bridge.

  • yes i also noticed that and in the 2nd shot all missiles hit the bridge

  • u destroyed lionsgate!! what the hell! now how can i get to north Van?

  • ohh man HEY guess what? i know where that bridge is i think its the lionsgate in "Vancouver"

  • good one!...how long did it really take for u to make it, completely!?..hope u will reply!

  • stupid question: How long have you been in school(studying this) when you made this?

  • actually it is stupid but guess what ? i'd like to know that info.aswell hahahaha XD reply pls

  • lol he never replied

  • Im doing another kind of video editing education and it's my 1st year atm.. But seriously it isnt thard to make. He already explained what to do, it's more like guide lol :p The only hard part is the modelling in 3D. The other stuff is particles.

  • i use blender for models. are there any good (cheap) programs to put them in videos?

  • Comment removed

  • color correct the bridge .. and more realistic texture to it.. ( looks to fake )

  • the lights are the problem here, still looks like a 3D scene... the bridge shoudnt light up so much... but is pretty close to reality... great job..

  • i wish this was my job

  • start today ;-)

  • Actually- not to defend taking picking it apart, but this type of criticism is the greatest flattery. How many people even care to notice details when a piece of work doesn't approach this level of genius...

  • Looks really good man. I don't know why so many people are on here trying to pick it apart.

    1. This stuff isn't easy.

    2. It's a student reel.

    3. Look at most major motion pictures in the last few years that feature any sort of compositing or vfx which is most of them. Scroll through frame by frame and you'll find an equal number of inconsistencies. If the pros can't get it perfect every time then it's silly to expect a student final project to be completely flawless.

    5/5 man

  • this reminds me of a scene from godzilla. XD

    good job.

  • Kanis - the cables are white because the light makes them white, but if you get closer it looses the light that reflects from them, I'm sorry I can't be more specific, because y don' know very well the terms in english but you should learn more about film photography

  • Okay, I sort of agree with you, actually the cables near the camera look white enough, but the ones that are far are left green. Look at 0:58 . You can easilly note the difference. :)

  • ooo it's nice :D

  • Great

  • I'm just good at noticing errors.

  • I would feel really bad for your spouse

  • No kidding!

  • Great job and nice breakdown.

  • coool

  • 11. In the panoramic picture.. there were brighter and darker spots on the water surface... Hovewer, if the water would not be that static, this would be unnotable. :)

  • Thanks for taking the time to number everything. :)

  • jeez, how long did you spend watching the video looking for errors?

You one of those people that points out all the goofs in movies? or talks the whole way through about what you would have done? do you know how annoying that is? Just shut up and watch

  • 8. The pieces of the bridge flying away seemed undamaged.

    9. The bridge was in a perfect shape, not a single stain of dirt on it. Unrealistic.

    10. In the panoramic picture the cables of the bridge were white, while, in the explosion animation, they were green, like the rest of the bridge.

Seems there's plenty of space for improvements :)

However what you've done is superb.

    I couldn't do that.

Sry for my bad english. Not my native language.

  • 1. The water kept still.

    2. The floating black thingy on the left at 0:11 was not moving...

    3. The missiles came from nowhere.

    4. After missiles explode, pieces of the bridge just flie away as if there was no gravity or it was very weak.

    5. After the explosion smoke, that was tailing the missiles, foze up. It should have been blasted away by the explosion.

    6. No traffic on the bridge?

    7. The explosions went away too fast. There should have been more flames.

  • Make your own and upload it with all these fixes. I'd love to watch!

  • ADD A HIGH QUALITY VERSION!

Great work! I love the breakdowns.

  • oh awesome!

  • really good congrats

  • Fantastic!

i would love to learn how to do these things and also i take photographs (am a pro) :-)

but am from UK and might come over to this school because it pure looks awesome

  • not so real..

    but there's a improvement :)

i mean .. the broken bridge there

  • :O OMG

  • awesome! 5/5

  • Good job!

  • superb excellent!

  • its too bad that the Water in the panoramic kept still... woulda been cool to see some animated distortion in AE done... like Mesh Warp or something... lol... altogether though... great job..

  • The water is moving in the first shot. Not in the breakdowns though. You have to look closely, its hard to see with YouTube quality.

  • do you get to learn Nuke at all?

  • that was fantastic!

  • nice after fx work, I think the lighting on the bridge is a little off, but still nice overal. Did you use trapcode particular in this?

  • cammera shake was greaaaatttt!!!

  • Great editing. Cool to see a panoramic in there.

  • can you do better?

  • wow..good job..

  • really nice man...i wanna learn how to do that too...

  • that's just awesome! I would love to be able to make something like that one day! (we use After Effects at my school too..) :D

  • woah. The future of movies shall be amazinger...

  • Nice job mate! Well executed!

  • niceeeee

  • fantastic work!

  • great job on the missiles... the CC on the explosion could have been desat very very slightly... Heat Distortion would have been sweet on the Jets flying past... overall great job!, i really liked the virtual cam move, and the bridge destruction was great... just the explosion could have used a little more work, i felt the Comp wasn't sold to me yet... what compositing software did you use, After Effects?

  • Compositing was done in After Effects. Modelling in XSI. Lighting, Texturing, and animation in Maya.

  • particle illusion

  • it's weird then, not many people at VFS use Fumefx or Realflow... They're two very useful programs.

  • Good genes indeed. For those of you who are debating whether or not its real footage or CG explosions, it's both :) This project was a learning experience, and I am so very proud I got it this far. Thank you to all who left me great comments. Your support is much appreciated. For anyone who wishes to exercise their creative talents, VFS is the place to be. I met so many talented and articulate people. It was an experience I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life.

  • Obviously, the product of only the best genes. I"m a very proud Dad. Now, someone please make this genius an offer he can't refuse.

    Awesome!!!!

  • Hah! Your son did a great job. Awesome to know you support him in this :D

  • What software did you use for the explosions?

Fume FX or Maya Fluids? .. or something else?

  • I think explosion footage

  • the jets were about to fly over the bridge at 0:14 and just didnt do so in the next shot 0:16!! the explosions as well fire outwards then quickly disappear like the bridge side was fueled or something! however there's potential in this effect as animating the bridge was an excellent idea!

  • very nice

  • id looooooove to go to VFS! :)

  • WOW!OMG

  • ... that was one of the most amazing 3D renderings that i'v ever seen!

  • OMG!!!!!!!

    amazing

  • didn't realise bg was a photo ;)

  • I love how all the visual effects folks at VFS love to blow things up! :P

    This is great.

  • you could get hired by Fox news! Great job.

  • thats tight!!!

  • Awesome

  • Man that's a hell lot of work.

    Awesome results tho:D

  • um. i think a little beter of a colorizing job would of helped. great though!

  • you guys constantly blow me away...

what do they put in the water up there??

  • Neat-o!!! God work!

  • cheer up miserable!

  • the background too flat...but i give u 3.5 stars. coz i like the effect. :)

  • AWESOME

  • not too good...

  • cool

  • It was great but not movie great. If I had seen this in a movie, I would laugh. And I know how much time has been put into this as well. A LOT!!

  • I don't think he had a budget with millions of dollars.

  • yeah true...but you know what i means!!!

  • who needs millions, that was f***ing brilliant!!

  • Good stuff, but the bridge deformations and explosions when hit seemed too stiff and overall "CG-ish" to me. The bridge also needs actual textures to sell photorealism. :)

  • and need more Sky Light

  • good stuff

  • Yeaaaaa death and destruction could used it a lot better for something else please! !@$#@$%$@$# video game attitudes!

  • wow..that looked amazing and totally real...great work!!!!

  • fantastic!!!

  • wow.. Great!!

  • neat, take that lions gate! one thing that kinda didnt sit well with me was how animated the explosion was. Im sure if it was from the same distance from the bridge as the first shot it would have looked cleaner. But detailed work is what i think you guys were shooting for.

  • It's too bad that we're by nature a destructive and aggressive species.

    Peace.

  • Yes, yes, everyone. We now all know that you think The Moon was cooler. Let's get past that and appreciate this one for what it is: ANOTHER cool one.

(Btw, loved how the bridge rocked when it got hit.)

  • good stuff

  • The Moon was cooler.

  • too short... moon was cooler

  • I'll be doing this kind of thing next year at the school... I can't wait.

  • word up!

i'm over at the Art Institute tho...

but the stuff over at the VFS is amazing.

  • very cool,

  • How long did this take!?

  • Could use some wave motion to liven up the opening frames, but otherwise excellent!

  • that was freaking awesome!

  • amazing...... awesome.. masterpiece

  • The Moon was cooler.

  • AMAZING!!! O:

  • Holy fuck. That's amazing.

  • Lion's gate Bridge for the win!

  • woah! thats kool!

  • awesome!
