If 9 people vote to kill the 10th it is still murder. Democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where the majority imposes their will on the minority. Its 2 wolves and a sheep voting on whats for dinner. A Constitutional Republic is prefferable to a Democracy.
well, you are right about all that,but...what's the solution? to get rid of a dictator like mubarak, there are actually only two ways, revolution or military intervention. both ways are dangerous, both ways can have desastrous results.
The poll you cite is very worrying, although when I cite it in arguments with people they just dismiss it and say "oh well I know all Muslims are moderate" without providing any contradictory polls. Not many have been done on Sharia.
Thank you for your effort Jonny...this was very interesting indeed. I was aware that most want Islamic law...or at least they think they want this...and I'm under the impression that most mid-easteners think like this. @Joniversity Sorry, but didn´t agree; thats fear, not a good motivation, yeah change in the arab world is risky, but if we want it change for the best, it have to change someday for something else.
@6U4RD1AN Well let's be empirical for a minute. What do you think: The Iranian revolution kicked off the Shah who ran a ruthless and murderess regime. But instead we got an even more oppressive and dangerous regime. With all the pain in saying so, the Shah would have actually been better for both Iranians and the world then the current theocracy... Wouldn't you agree?
@Joniversity Yep, but as you point out in the video, Iran is Iran and not Egypt. See i´m not very optimistic about this, but someday things have to start to change, yes Egypt isn´t the perfect breeding ground for democracy, but if it were it would be a democracy already. Recent news make me even less optimistic of this not being taked over by the military, but still the arab world needs this kind of movements to achieve democracy...someday.
its sad that liberals/leftists deny realities and white wash them in order not to cause fractions to the popular front, which i guess has bigger fishs to fry as the "evol israeli apertheid".
I hope The people are understanding what it means to live in Democracy, And not make the same mistakes we did in 1776 ( blacks, women and others were not equal) Yes the USA do make mistakes we let fear lead us sometimes. But a country can't be free if the people are not all equal. I have nothing against Jewish people, blacks, Muslims, or anyone. I do think for a democracy to work you do need separation of church and state. If you want your country built on hate Democracy is not for you.
If they don't hammer out a decent "Constitutional democracy" then any democracy at all will be short lived and pointless. Its not about everyone having a vote to decide for themselves, because firstly they are loyal to Islam which couldn't be any less democratic. So they are in essence going to choose a type of democracy where everyone is eventually manipulated into doing away with democracy, therefore end up with a democratically elected Theocracy, scary!

@yoyo1189 Again, you don't need to convince me about anything. @paradoarify Well believe me it took me a while to find ones with large enough samples and straightforward methodologies. Pew in general usually do a good work.
I just don't agree with you for the reason that every gov't on earth is ordained by God. Any rebellion against the institution is rebellion against God. Romans 13. The governmnet has to use force and punishment to those who try to overthrow it. This protest as they call it is actually ordchestrated by the terroist groups who wants to grab power in a matter of days that took years to establihed for the good of the people given with all the rights, freedom and benefits served by the gov't .
I am all for a revolution, as long as the revolutionaries intend to honour the Sadat-Begin peace treaty. If not, I wish them the best of luck in another 6 day war.
hitler, hamas and hizbollah all came to power by democratic elections. Democracy can only work if you have an enlightened society. As sam harris said, if you gave europe democracy in the 14th century, they would just have elected a catholic theocracy.
In regards to Jimmy Carte and Obama , do you feel the left-wing parties in the US and EU are incapable of resolve in foreign affairs and focus too much on internal ? Or are you just referring to a few specific individuals you find incompetent ?
Is there some positive possible solution for Egypt at this point ?
War will always be exploited. You see a tragedy , a weapons company sees profit.
As for 9/11 , read the official report and all the data (tons to go through) before you give credibility to conspiracy.I wasted 2 years of my life believing conspiracy fairy-tales , don't make the mistake I made.
Last time Egypt had a "revolution" against their Monarchy, they ended up with a "strongman" dictatorship that stirred up war in the Middle East, and ultimately resulted in them losing big.
The cycle, and history will more than likely repeat here.
with the muslim brotherhood in the mix, we'll be seeing egypt as a theocratic state not much different from Iran.. except they'll probably be committing genocide against the copts
Hi Joniversity, one thing I found out , which I suspected actually, is that Egyptian Christians (coptic Christians?) actually have some things they strongly agree with with the Muslims. They both strongly dislike Israel and the Jews. As a fundie protestant Russian American in USA, I was really upset to find out that could be true. Do you know if it is?
@StopFear I think you are wrong about the Coptic's. As I see it, they live in fear amongst the radicals in Egypt. They have no choice but to "stay in line" and "dislike Israel" because they fear for their lives. It's the same as the Jewish community in Iran. The Regime in Iran are always using them to "show" the world how good they are treated in Iran & make them say they oppose Israel. They have no choice, they ether say it publicly or face very harsh consequences!
I get sick of these 911 conspiracy theories. This guy in the video is insane. Ok, I guess I wouldn't object if he said "there is a possibility" that something happened, but this guy is outrageous. He probably thinks the gray aliens and reptilians are everywhere taking over the world and that Jews are in on it.
Thank you for the great video, and your video response to my video. The Egyptians will never have democracy and freedom as long as they support the Muslim Brotherhood.
I think in both the long and short run, egypt will disintegrate as a political entity. Different parts of the country will be ruled by different power groups. The one that rules the capital would most likely be pro-Western. Several de-facto city states would emerge. Some would even be pro-Western and prosper. Others extremists. They will languish. That is as far as I see in my crystal ball.
About the video you mentioned in the beginning, I didn't know about that guy before I saw the video, but even without that knowledge, I only had to watch a few seconds before the alarm bells started ringing. It was kinda like watching Hizb-Ut-Tahrir propaganda, the too try to sound like left intellectuals until they start talking about the Kalifat ;-)
Disturbing numbers indeed! Generally I believe democracy can only work properly with an educated and enlightened population, and that's hardly what we see in the Middle East with the exception of Israel. I'm not over optimistic about the outcome in Egypt and Tunisia, but of course hoping for the best.
Despite being an atheist, I cannot stand most of the atheist community on youtube. I haven't heard of the two yt'ers mentioned, but anyone fucking dumb enough to put a ken o keefe video up...
Great video, here is another survey about muslims in Egypt: 97% is on the side of the palestinians in the conflict with Israel.. 76% thinks that Hamas was good for the palestinians. 59% are positive towards Iran. 44% are positive to Iran getting nuclear weapons. 63% thinks the europeans are hostile to muslims. 59% consider themselves muslim first and egyptian second. 69% dislike USA. 63% dislike americans. 82% oppose the USA struggle against terrorism. Search for "pew MUSLIMS IN EUROPE"
@IranianAtheism Thanks! It will fit great into my next video. Also i didn't have the chance to thank you for all your info. Who knows, maybe next year we'll have a drink in TLV or Tehran :-)
yeah i really hated that "the global revolution has arrived" is shit. He said that the palestinians should rise up and do the same to israel as was done in egypt.
but that is so shitty. Havent these people studies recent history.
the palestinians did rise up against israel.
it was called the intifada (there were many of them). And it did not bring anything positive, it only brought hatred and blood.
@Joniversity I'll rephrase that. I've watched about 20 videos on this Egyption crisis and this is the first one which has ticked all the boxes so this is the only one out of 20 that has gone into my favortes. So you scored 1st place out 20 entrants. That sounds a bit better doesn't it.
I sure I have some other of your vids in my favorites.
Oh, couldn't you just fudge the numbers a little to make the outcome hopeful? Egypt's toast. Thank you Joniversity. Very well done. I think, were it possible to allow them to work peacful protests, and gatherings where people were actually open to exchanging ideas, something good could come of this. I'm not hopeful. I'd like to feature this on my channel for a while. If you don't want me to, please let me know as a response to this comment. Thanks.
... As you claim a slow progression is needed, I also feel that Human Rights is something that needs to be adhered to on a stand alone basis - the exact same condition I hold Israel to.
With a slow transition, you will have all these violations still occurring, just receeding slowly. I do not feel this is good enough. Human Rights, The Geneva Convention etc. are there for a reason.
All nations have a responsibility to uphold these to allow for the people, & their respective nations, to stand.
A secular democratic republic - straight democracy is mob rules. Add a republic to that & you have a draft or constiution to adhere to, yet that could turn theocratic very quickly. Secular avoids the threat of any 1 religion, or any 1 denomination taking hold.
The thing is also, is that cause & effect is also in play as the people need to shed 30 years of oppression & corruption through public venting.
Great job! I debated somone who supported the revolution because he thought it will bring democracy. And I argued that Egypt is not ready for it, because Islam is a central part of their lives and i also pointed out that the Muslim Brotherhood is the only serious opposition for Mubarack. And you've just confirmed my arguement with those poll numbers.
I was confused about the video Snowwalker and Vogter posted, too. The guy was talking a lot of crap in the video and I am not surprised about his wtc views
@t3nGu666 He was basically calling for us to tear the western world apart and destroy Israel in that video, I was baffled when they mirrored it too but in the west we love a good revolution and we love to think tyranny is being over thrown so it's easy to get swept up in that sort of thing if you're not aware of the motives behind such propagandists.
@GodlessInfinity Right, I didn't want to watch the video again, but I think I heard some anti Israel bullshit. I think he has an agenda and just cares for freedom, if it fits his purposes. So I guess Joniversity is right to doubt that we would see this guy supporting the Iranian protests.
@Vogter2100 I'm willing to be optimistic if the Egyptian people will let the change be gradual enough for them to educate themselves about what democracy means and let moderate people write the constitution. A solid constitution can actually create a viable democracy in Egypt - after-all the American constitution is what is saving the U.S. from becoming irreversibly affected by religion... But i guess only time will tell. For now i agree it doesn't look promising.
@Joniversity Cool thanks Joni, I love your videos.
My hope for egypt is that they establish a secular representative democracy, maybe with a little help... As to my prediction, well I would like to imagine this will all turn out for the best, but I predict either a military coup or an Islamic republic, which will probably see civil strife due to high food prices brought on by insufficient production methods & if production methods improve, a crashing economy as much of the work force goes under

Thanks.

@RichardRoy2 You are very much welcome to mirror and share this as you like. This also goes to all my other videos.
Also you might want to contact 'GodlessInfinity' who's going to make an edited version of it which might work better for you.
Peace,
Jonny.

Thanks.

I was confused about the video Snowwalker and Vogter posted, too. The guy was talking a lot of crap in the video and I am not surprised about his wtc views
t3nGu666 1 year ago
@t3nGu666 He was basically calling for us to tear the western world apart and destroy Israel in that video, I was baffled when they mirrored it too but in the west we love a good revolution and we love to think tyranny is being over thrown so it's easy to get swept up in that sort of thing if you're not aware of the motives behind such propagandists.
GodlessInfinity 1 year ago
@GodlessInfinity Right, I didn't want to watch the video again, but I think I heard some anti Israel bullshit. I think he has an agenda and just cares for freedom, if it fits his purposes. So I guess Joniversity is right to doubt that we would see this guy supporting the Iranian protests.

My hope for Egypt is a true democracy but Im afraid it probably wont happen.
Vogter2100 1 year ago
@Vogter2100 I'm willing to be optimistic if the Egyptian people will let the change be gradual enough for them to educate themselves about what democracy means and let moderate people write the constitution. A solid constitution can actually create a viable democracy in Egypt - after-all the American constitution is what is saving the U.S. from becoming irreversibly affected by religion... But i guess only time will tell. For now i agree it doesn't look promising.

Mind if I mirror this, slightly edited to remove mention to Vogter and Snowwalker?

@GodlessInfinity Sure. Mirror, edit, do what you wish. The message is important! After you do i might upload your version too.
BTW, You can mirror EVERYTHING off my channel!
