  • Spiritual meaning - Kannan : The one who sees from within (not the physical Eyes) - He is verily Kannan. When the intellect (minds eye) forgets the Kannan, the purpose of intellect to exist is meaningless. Forgetfulness of Kannan(Parabrammam) by the soul(jivatman) within will lead to meaningless existence of jiva. This forgetfulness is called Maya and soul cries to remember the Kannan. beautiful expression of Bhakti

  • Thanks for posting the meanings; you have helped confirm what I thought they were, plus you helped to correct some mistakes in my understanding. Eg.I had thought it was 'thotram' for garden, instead of 'thotham' for 'form', according to you, which seems to make more sense. Shivar is right in that it suits both genders because Krishna has been praised and lamented by both traditionally, though the legends make him out to be more keenly cherished by the ladies!

  • ..

  • Beautiful!

  • Kannan mukham maranthu ponal - indha,

    Kangal irundhy pyan undo,

Vanna padamum illai kandai - ini,

    Vazhum vazhi yennadi thozhi

What is the use of having these eyes,

If we forget the face of Lord Krishna?

You know that I do not have his color portrait,

And Now what is the way to live?

  • Kannil theriyudhoru thotham - athil,

    Kannan azhagu muzhudillai,

Nannu mukha vadivu kanil - antha,

    Nalla malar chirippai kanom

A form is seen by my eyes,

In which I do not see the full beauty of Krishna,

When I see the form of his face, I am not able,

To see his flower like smile in that.

  • Aasai mukham maranthu poche - idai,

    Aaridam cholvenadi thozhi

I have forgotten the face that I love,

Dear friend, to whom shall I tell this.

    Nesham marakkavillai nenjam yenil,

    Ninaivu mukam marakkalamo?

When the heart has not forgotten the love,

Is it proper to forget the face from memory?
