Just a couple of continuity corrections: WJIM Radio is in Lansing, not East Lansing, and the audio was likely supplied by JACK Robbins and JIM Stone (their first names are reversed in the credits). Otherwise, this is great audio - thanks for posting it.
Thanks for the memories. Before MSU he was a student at Lansing Community College and learned radio production there at the campus station. We all knew he was going places...
@LosAngeleno1959 How did you meet him? Can you share any memories about him. I loved the Voyagers...I was 14 when the show came out and 17 when he passed away. I was just devastated by how senseless his death was. Did you know his family? Do you know anything about his personal relationship w/ Meeno?
I forgot, how about adding clips when he throws the records when he's done..LMAO! :) Oh, can't believe how much i forgot how is voice sounded. Saw a newspaper clipping from several yrs ago and his last name can be found in this part of the country. Jon Erik rises again!
Long time ago, i came across to a small clip from his radio days. I clicked play and OMG, his voice just overwhelmed my mind and said thats him! I haven't heard that voice since 1984. Well, actually the first time in 1982 sitting on the floor looking up and watching Voyagers! I hit play repeatedly..LOL!
What an awesome video! Here's a great idea: wouldn't it be fun to record these little bits of Jack, and put them on your iPod? Jack's comments interspersed with your music, it would feel like he's the DJ on your own player!
What a great video. Even though I've already seen it before, I still had to comment on it. This is such a wonderful piece. It should have been up on YouTube sooner.
Now for the $64,000 question. Why on Earth would you put someone with such a great voice on the radio during the graveyard shift? Duhhhh, Hel-lo! He should have been on in the daytime or at the very least in the early evening. He was just way too talented and too cool to be put in that timeslot.
You're right! Better late than never! The reason Jon-Erik was on the graveyard shift was because he had class at Michigan State University during the day. Otherwise, I'm sure they could've put him on the morning show! That, and the fact that he had a tendency to throw the records over his shoulder after he finished playing them, which didn't go over well at some of the stations!
beat out a message on a drum or something like that...LOL! what a dork!
I love it.
I live 35 miles south of Lansing, Michigan. I was a freshman in high school when he was doing this. I never heard him because I was asleep. If I had known, I would have called.
OMG!! This is so great....one of the reasons I was so drawn to Jon-Erik was because of his incredible voice. So much talent...and so grateful this is being shared with all his fans.
Not surprisingly he was even a talented radio host! Yet another reminder of what a great loss this is to the entertainment world (not to mention to his family and friends) but it's really amazing how they've gathered so much material from his life, and the fact they share all these great memories with his fans around the world is just incredible, we appreciate this so much!
Oh I'm SWOONING! I'm SWOONING at 3:10 in the morning till six!!! Who cares about work, I have to hear Yukon Jack!!! Love this, such a resonating and powerful voice. Why isn't anyone calling. I'd be flooding the switchboard! He'd know me by first name! LOL.
He stuttered a lot. Good voice but not sure of himself.

What an incredible voice he had. And he grew into a very handsome man because he looks so different in his younger years.

JACK HEXUM was a betta screen name than JON-ERIK HEXUM...I wonder why he didn't keep it when he went to hollywood?

Dude, Jack may have been easier to say but his mother named him Jon Erik. Didn't John Cougar go back to Mellencamp.

Got to know him personally in the early 80's and got pretty close to him. A very sweet hearted loyal passionate guy. I miss him every day.

I especially loved his humor in these clips.
