@jason9292 The sliding is not the worst thing, the problem is the crash and all the twirling/twisting part, especially if the ski don't come off. Then there is a high danger of broken bones/torn knees etc.

Not that funny. Crashes like these can ruin careers (both from physical & mental injury) and prevent athletes from acheiving their potential.

@budweiser4 The race pistes are designed to test each athlete to the absolute limit. These days the athletes are soooo advanced that really ultra steep & icy terrain is the only way of making it properly challeging for them. And in any case its the athletes own choice, they decide how fast they will go. And to win, they have to go all out.

@BorutOo Usually for your average SG/DH race you will see tripple layered B-netting; The stuff, however, is extremely difficult to set up and expensive. Often what they will do at races is just set it up on in the way of the expected line of the racer (Below and outside the gate) usually crashes result in a lack of direction change. Rarely, like in this case, the skiier will overload the ski and get launched causing too much turn and instability. Causing spectacular crashes like this.
